Great location for touring Mertyle beach and Huntington beach areas. Only a 6 rating due to it is not a typical roomy "state park" RV park because they pack you in like sardines much like a typical private owned park. Couple of turns were to tight for my 41' coach and did somecurb checking. Would not consider this park big rig friendly although it can be done. Will try a different Park next time in the area. Site 85 has no room on sides for tables and chairs, you have to hang out behind your camper. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

This park is very convenient to the main strip and to other tourist attractions near downtown Myrtle Beach. While they do not offer any beach front sites (and you cannot see or hear the beach from any of the sites), the campground is an easy walk to the beach and fishing pier. If you don't want to walk from your site, there are several parking areas that are closer. The campground was clean, the sites were very level, and the staff that we dealt with were all very friendly and helpful. Our site was on the first loop, near the campground entrance, by the campground store. There is also another small store located at the pier. There's a small educational walking path located at the campground, but also playground areas within close walking distance. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you enjoy good craft beer, there is one true brewery called New South Brewery located within 20 minutes of the campground, but there is a great little place called Atlas Tap House that is a bit closer that is worth a visit as well.

Two words describe this park best: large and busy! Unfortunately, we stayed here for quite possibly the "wettest" week in the history of vacations. It rained ALL day, EVERYDAY! Because very few people were on the beach, the park seemed over-crowded. Despite that, things went as well as could be expected. Check in was quick and easy. We were on the back loop in the woods and did NOT experience any flooding. The roads were a tad tight in certain spots but I believe that was from all of the people. The dump station was convenient to the exit and had multiple hookups for people to use so the wait wasn't too long. The camp store and gift shop at the pier were nice and sufficiently supplied. Beach access was convenient at the entrance to the campground. This park really has a ton of things to offer outside of just camping. I am sure we would have enjoyed it much more with more favorable weather to experience everything. We will definitely be back and will update my review then. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice state park, sites are a little close though hence my 8 rating. Most have sewer which is a plus. Excellent checkin service, very friendly staff. The beach is a 7 minute walk from most sites, lots of stores close by. Location location location here. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Within our 18 night trip we are so glad we stayed in this park for four of those nights! It is a beautiful state park in a perfect location for exploring Myrtle Beach and all it has to offer as well as about an hour away from Hilton Head. Some sites are more spacious than others and many are quite secluded. Some are small, close to road intersections or bathrooms, and/or very close to the neighboring site. All have fire rings and picnic tables. This is a busy park so reserve in advance if you can. All 350 sites were full every night of our four night stay in mid-April. Look at the campground map online and choose a site on one of the loops with no sites behind it. That way you will have neighbors only on the right and left. Otherwise, if you have a large rig and have a site to your rear with another large rig you might find yourselves very close to each other. We loved our site #142 and sites #332 and #333 looked very good, too. But, overall, I think you'll be happy with any site. RVs and tents are interspersed. Sites have water and electric. There are several bathhouses (some newer and nicer than others). The newest one near the entrance is the best but also the busiest. And it contains a laundry facility as does at least one other of the bathhouses in the park. The fan in the women's shower near site #142 was disgusting and the building itself could use some updating but it serves its purpose. It is about a two block directly to the expansive beach so great for sunrise walks along the water. They are adamant about NO ALCOHOL. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Price reflects full hook ups that we really did not need but that was all that was available. But with 400 sites and only about a third with full hook ups their one dump station I can imagine would be very busy. Sites are wooded and somewhat closely spaced all sand or gravel with good paved roads throughout in 6 loops. Very nice access to the beach. Unfortunately our experience was not too good because of the preponderance of dogs barking almost all day and into the night. If you camp here and plan to stay in camp and relax, forget it. The dogs are obnoxious. That is the reason for the lower rating. State should set aside at least two of the loops for no dogs! Probably will not stay here again. Most all sites are back ins. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Very wooded. Nice and close to beach. Washrooms ok for State Park. Mosquitoes so terrible all day and night you have to be in a screen area to be outside at all. Saw some big rigs but tough to maneuver them with all the trees. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here 7 nights. Right after the Hurricane. The camping site was fine considering the storm damage. The showers were small but mostly clean. Had a laundry place which I loved. We had a fire ring and picnic table. The MOSQUITOES were ferocious and had HUGE HORNS. We had to constantly fight them off.

We rented a golf cart which we could not ride after dark, which we were not happy about. That is why we rented it because we love riding the cart at night. Loved being in the woods and most nights hearing the ocean waves. Yes we would stay here again. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great place to ride a bike. The beach and pier were nice. Lots of shopping nearby. Lots of trees...be aware of falling limbs in strong winds. Great rangers...I observed a female ranger getting soaked in a downpour while helping a "new to RVing" camper back a TT in. Nature area needs a little updating. We had trouble finding the right road to our site...listen to the directions carefully and be aware there maybe a discrepancy in the road nomenclature. Tips for other Campers:

Great Sunday Services at Lakewood Resort, which is next to MBSP.
If you are referred to the "office", it is at the camp store.
Roads are narrow, so if you are towing, be prepared to disconnect/connect fast.
Turning left out of the park can be a challenge. They need a light.

We were in circle (called loops at other camp grounds) 6, spot 318. Site 318 and in a 40' class A with a living-room/kitchen slide on the drivers side and a 22' awning on the passenger side was difficult to place in the spot in order to use both, because of tree placement in the spot, but we did it. Otherwise, it was a great spot with a lot of canopy cover. Bathhouse was clean and functional. Circle 6, spot 318 is a hike to the beach, but good exercise. Food Lion is a 10 minute bike ride on paved trails, make sure you have an extra pass to get back in. Site is a 50 AMP site. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Other than not having a swimming pool, you can't beat MBSP as your home base while at the beach. Spacious sites, great location and plenty of room on the beach. Bathrooms were clean, but not as clean as we've seen in the past. Having said that, the park full and getting a lot of use. Maybe under those circumstances the staff should clean more than once a day. In the long run, still a lot better than the commercial campgrounds where you can literally pass things through the windows from one camper to another. This state park has it all! I will start with the positives. The sites are all very level and shaded. The picnic tables all looked to be in good working order. The fire rings were in every site. The grass was mowed and most trees were trimmed back so as not to be in the way. The bath houses were in good working order and there was a good supply of hot water. The camp store was well stocked and they had an air compressor to use. The nature center was in great shape and there were plenty of activities for kids of all ages. The roads were all paved and were in good repair. The only negatives I could find were the lack of security in the right places. The prices for pier fishing were a tad high. The reservations system makes one plan ahead. They do not have a pool nor do they have basketball goals. I would give them a 10 if they had had those. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Tent.

Wonderful state park with a mile of beach. Room for our 40 ft rig although it was a challenging back-up between trees. The site was narrow and we couldn't put out our awning. Also, our picnic table was on the same side as our neighbors on the driver's side and they were there before us and had spread out so we had very little room outside. They also had unfriendly dogs out which limited our time outside with our puppy. Park was full and there were kids everywhere but everyone was very friendly! No satellite because of trees and limited cable reception. This state park actually has wifi but it is minimal. No sewer so we used bathhouse showers which were adequate. 50 amp service and water were good. Overall, a great value to find a park on the water in Myrtle Beach at this price. We actually stayed in 2 different sites for a week each. The first spot was in #108 and it was extremely hard to get into as it was at a 90 degree angle with trees on each side of the entry. We had to ask 2 other campers to move their vehicles just to be able to get into the site. It was listed as 45' and our 5th wheel is 34' so we never dreamed it would be such a challenge to get into. It had also rained and was a muddy mess. We did not enjoy this spot at all. This was during spring break and there were kids everywhere on bikes making it even worse. The 2nd site was #208 and it was angled in and the ground had been built up so mud was not an issue. The beach is very close and the hiking trails were nice. All utilities worked well. My only caution would be to know what your site looks like before booking. We would stay here again, but definitely not during spring break or the summer just due to the number of kids running wild. There was also a lot of airplane noise as it is under the flight approach and there are helicopters constantly flying over with tours. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

From the time we drove in we were impressed with the layout and condition of the grounds. Lots to see and do, including their own fishing pier (great hand-dipped ice cream there as well!). Campsites were nicely wooded, spacious and generally level. Our site was 236, great location. We wouldn't recommend the outer sites of circle 6 that are pretty wet/swampy (sites 300-326), or sites 17-19 for the same reason. Short walk to the beach from all sites. Nice biking and walking trails around the campsites and along the beach. Free wifi that worked quite well, and good Verizon cell coverage. Plenty of bathrooms, but finding a hot shower was elusive. Most were tepid or just plane cold. Even after complaints resulted in a technician's arrival, his idea of hot water indicated that tepid was just fine if the selected temperature of their system was 125 degrees, regardless if the actual delivered temperature would produce even a warm shower. Only drawback to a wonderful camping experience and what kept it from being a 10. Reserve well in advance, it stays pretty full, especially the full hookups. Looking forward to many future camping outings here. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.
