Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for three nights in July. Great place!! Lots to do and such a beautiful beach and pier. They have a nature center and activities but we were too busy to do. Beach was perfect right by the pier. At night walk out on the pier and watch all the people fishing. Look for the sharks swimming there too. Great place to watch the sunset too. The CCC was there which was nice to see the history. The sites were VERY narrow and navigating was a bit difficult but all in all a great place. We did have a family of raccoons living above us but they didn't bother us. If you are coming into the park on Sat or Sunday warning that they only have one lane to check in and the one time we came back into the park on a Sunday, it took 25 minutes to enter. Come later or earlier? Great place to also watch the sunrise from the beach and/or pier. We took a drive 20 minutes down to Huntington Beach State Park. GREAT place to see alligators across from the castle entrance. They walked right across the road. Very peaceful. Would stay here again! Just heard that they are making some sites also full hook up. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

MBSP is the most popular park in SC... and it shows. The campground was nearly full for our mid-April visit, and I'm sure it is packed during peak season. Expect 30min or more wait to enter the park on weekends and holidays. Spots nicely treed, but *very* close (much closer than other state/national parks). Spots that back against the forest (instead of other campers) are obviously nicer. Our spot required slight leveling only. Park wifi was weak in some locations. Two nice hiking trails, easy beach access, a pier, and lots of picnic areas, make this park a true oasis. Camp hosts are numerous and highly visible. The groups were very clean. The camp store has enough basics to eliminate the need to leave the park. Roads are paved, but some turns will be tight for bigger rigs. We watched more than a few have difficulty driving through and backing in to their spots. Water pressure was good and many spots have sewer hookups. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Tent Trailer.

I think all of the SC state parks a good value for the money. We had a full hookup site. The site was tight - not awning touching tight, but close enough to get to know your neighbor. The park overall was clean and well cared for. The rangers made frequent ride thru's. The camp store was not well stocked unless you are looking for a tee shirt or a hat. They appear to be adding additional full hookup sites on the back of the campground. One thing to know, the park is located pretty much at the end of the airport (on the other side of Kings Hwy) There are frequent low flying large planes and helicopter fly overs. Our visit happened to be at the time when a car show was in town. Many of them setup in one of the parking lots at the park, which was kinda cool if you are into that. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would probably visit again. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Basics: Paved roads that are a bit tight in some places. Sand sites with power and water only (choice of 30 or 50 amp) some with FHUs. The price of the sites vary on the choice of utilities. We had one with water and 50 amp service and ran about $30/night. Sites are pretty close together but it wasn't crowded this time of year. It's a short hike or drive to the beach from the campground. The showers have plenty of hot water, ok pressure and were clean as were the bathrooms. They have free WiFi which works pretty well in December maybe not so much when the place is packed. Verizon phone and Mifi work fine.

This park is hemmed in on 3 sides by development and highways and is a small oasis of what the coast may have looked like. Short hiking trails and a beach devoid of condos give it a very nice feel. One unfortunate thing is that it's right on the main approach for the local airport which had about 300 flights per day in 2016. 16% of which are commercial and 4% military doing touch and go's, so it can get a bit noisy at certain times of the day. They have a fishing pier where you can test your skills or just watch. We would probably stay here again if we're in the area. One thing to note there are no alcoholic beverages allowed in South Carolina State Parks. They do lock the gates at night but they give you the combo so you can get back in. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This park is very convenient to the main strip and to other tourist attractions near downtown Myrtle Beach. While they do not offer any beach front sites (and you cannot see or hear the beach from any of the sites), the campground is an easy walk to the beach and fishing pier. If you don't want to walk from your site, there are several parking areas that are closer. The campground was clean, the sites were very level, and the staff that we dealt with were all very friendly and helpful. Our site was on the first loop, near the campground entrance, by the campground store. There is also another small store located at the pier. There's a small educational walking path located at the campground, but also playground areas within close walking distance. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great location for touring Mertyle beach and Huntington beach areas. Only a 6 rating due to it is not a typical roomy "state park" RV park because they pack you in like sardines much like a typical private owned park. Couple of turns were to tight for my 41' coach and did somecurb checking. Would not consider this park big rig friendly although it can be done. Will try a different Park next time in the area. Site 85 has no room on sides for tables and chairs, you have to hang out behind your camper. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Two words describe this park best: large and busy! Unfortunately, we stayed here for quite possibly the "wettest" week in the history of vacations. It rained ALL day, EVERYDAY! Because very few people were on the beach, the park seemed over-crowded. Despite that, things went as well as could be expected. Check in was quick and easy. We were on the back loop in the woods and did NOT experience any flooding. The roads were a tad tight in certain spots but I believe that was from all of the people. The dump station was convenient to the exit and had multiple hookups for people to use so the wait wasn't too long. The camp store and gift shop at the pier were nice and sufficiently supplied. Beach access was convenient at the entrance to the campground. This park really has a ton of things to offer outside of just camping. I am sure we would have enjoyed it much more with more favorable weather to experience everything. We will definitely be back and will update my review then. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Within our 18 night trip we are so glad we stayed in this park for four of those nights! It is a beautiful state park in a perfect location for exploring Myrtle Beach and all it has to offer as well as about an hour away from Hilton Head. Some sites are more spacious than others and many are quite secluded. Some are small, close to road intersections or bathrooms, and/or very close to the neighboring site. All have fire rings and picnic tables. This is a busy park so reserve in advance if you can. All 350 sites were full every night of our four night stay in mid-April. Look at the campground map online and choose a site on one of the loops with no sites behind it. That way you will have neighbors only on the right and left. Otherwise, if you have a large rig and have a site to your rear with another large rig you might find yourselves very close to each other. We loved our site #142 and sites #332 and #333 looked very good, too. But, overall, I think you'll be happy with any site. RVs and tents are interspersed. Sites have water and electric. There are several bathhouses (some newer and nicer than others). The newest one near the entrance is the best but also the busiest. And it contains a laundry facility as does at least one other of the bathhouses in the park. The fan in the women's shower near site #142 was disgusting and the building itself could use some updating but it serves its purpose. It is about a two block directly to the expansive beach so great for sunrise walks along the water. They are adamant about NO ALCOHOL. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Price reflects full hook ups that we really did not need but that was all that was available. But with 400 sites and only about a third with full hook ups their one dump station I can imagine would be very busy. Sites are wooded and somewhat closely spaced all sand or gravel with good paved roads throughout in 6 loops. Very nice access to the beach. Unfortunately our experience was not too good because of the preponderance of dogs barking almost all day and into the night. If you camp here and plan to stay in camp and relax, forget it. The dogs are obnoxious. That is the reason for the lower rating. State should set aside at least two of the loops for no dogs! Probably will not stay here again. Most all sites are back ins. We stayed here 7 nights. Right after the Hurricane. The camping site was fine considering the storm damage. The showers were small but mostly clean. Had a laundry place which I loved. We had a fire ring and picnic table. The MOSQUITOES were ferocious and had HUGE HORNS. We had to constantly fight them off.

We rented a golf cart which we could not ride after dark, which we were not happy about. That is why we rented it because we love riding the cart at night. Loved being in the woods and most nights hearing the ocean waves. Yes we would stay here again. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We were in circle (called loops at other camp grounds) 6, spot 318. Site 318 and in a 40' class A with a living-room/kitchen slide on the drivers side and a 22' awning on the passenger side was difficult to place in the spot in order to use both, because of tree placement in the spot, but we did it. Otherwise, it was a great spot with a lot of canopy cover. Bathhouse was clean and functional. Circle 6, spot 318 is a hike to the beach, but good exercise. Food Lion is a 10 minute bike ride on paved trails, make sure you have an extra pass to get back in. Site is a 50 AMP site. We camped at Myrtle Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Great place to ride a bike. The beach and pier were nice. Lots of shopping nearby. Lots of trees...be aware of falling limbs in strong winds. Great rangers...I observed a female ranger getting soaked in a downpour while helping a "new to RVing" camper back a TT in. Nature area needs a little updating. We had trouble finding the right road to our site...listen to the directions carefully and be aware there maybe a discrepancy in the road nomenclature.
