Please note... the bad service rating is for the campground host. The park staff that we spoke with at various times seem to be very nice. Santee State Park (we stayed at Cypress View, but there are two campgrounds) is just a basic RV park. If you are not there to boat, or to go off-site to play golf, there's really not too much to do. Fishing from the dock is impossible due to the boat traffic coming and going, and fishing from the bank proves to be difficult due to the rocks and rough terrain (I'm sure a more avid fisherman or woman than myself would have found a way to make it work, though). Cypress View park itself was clean and the sites seem to all be pretty level; however, sites in the lower even 20s do not get much shade and made for a pretty bright and hot stay... even with the A/C on and awning out. There are shaded lakeside sites, but they didn't seem to have much of a view and it appeared that actually getting down to the lake would be a bit difficult. Cypress View is the newer of the campgrounds and less crowded than the original, but the older campground does have more shaded sites. For $30 a night, the park is a bit overpriced. The biggest issue we had was when we left... there was a line for the dump station. Apparently the system was overflowing and could not be used. Other campers had tried to contact the camp host (located very close to the station itself), but they would not answer the door even though they appeared to be home. We tried calling around to several other campgrounds and truck stops in the area, but no one allowed outside dumping. Because of this, we had to carry 3 nearly full tanks all the way home and pay another campground near our RV storage area for use of their dump station. We camped at Santee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you are looking for a place to catch a game on TV, Pedro's in Santee is really the only place to go. Luckily, the food is really good and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Very Disappointed on this trip to Santee State Park. This was our first time on this site (#39) but we have stayed at this park many times. First, the site had several stumps insides the site area and two (possible) electrical panels in the site. The picnic table was over the boxes and we could not move it. This made for several trip hazards in our site. Second, the bathrooms were very dirty. I believe the staff was only doing the bare minimum to say they cleaned it. I went in after they had cleaned and it did not look any better.

The roads could use some help since there are several potholes in the park. We camped at Santee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice state park but the washrooms were a little run down and not well maintained. Site was huge and spacious with lots of trees and away from from other campers. Weather was terrible during our stay with a lot of rain so hard to get out and see things. Lots of places to hike and plenty of wildlife. We camped at Santee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Shady dirt sites. Not too near others. 30/20 amp, water. Loop road a little rough. Keeps the speed down, thank you. Rangers and staff friendly and helpful. The hiking trails and Lake View campground were closed due to recent rain storms. The rest of the park was in great shape. Nice observation lounge on lake with wi-fi, good camp store. Small interesting museum. Paved roads for biking. Very nice state park. Cabins are excellent. We camped at Santee State Park in a Motorhome.

Roads in campground loop were very bad; many deep pot holes very bumpy even at 5 MPH. Sites very ill defined. Bath house was very nasty even to the point that a camper tired to do a little cleaning up--is there no campground host or camp staff? Worst South Carolina campground we have ever been to. Don't go there if you can avoid it! We camped at Santee State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed on site 10 for a weekend and were surprised how people freely walked through occupied sites to make their walk shorter to get to the water. The access to the park is not gated so anyone can drive in whenever they choose. Compared to other SC Parks, we seldom saw a Ranger patrolling. Lots of golf carts, careless young adults driving w/o regard for others. Maybe a good over nite spot, but definitely not an in season destination. Roads had many large holes and sites were not very level.... lots of roots. We camped at Santee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park needs two dump stations on lake shore side. Campers who stay on "lake side" have to circle the whole campsite to get over to the one dump station, then drive threw the potholes all over again to get out out of the camp site area to leave. The roads are horrible! A perfect spot for a new dump station would be on your way out of the camp, not on the way in! Also I watched 3 different times dead branches fall from trees. Seen many more branches that could give at any moment. I shouldn't worry while vacationing about potholes and trees falling damaging my stuff! And not all, but same on you adults who let their kids run wild! Went to the woods to get away from screaming loud neighborhood only to have loud kids playing threw my site! We camped at Santee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed in the north figure of eight loop lay out campground. Didn't see the southern campground. The main road into the campground is well paved, and the ranger station, nature center, camp store, lake side and on the pier cabins are first class. The campground road though has very rough lurching pot holed surface, and the sites are ill-defined dirt and sand, variably unlevel with tree roots. Lots of trees. The bath house is old and worn and really needs updating though plus minus clean. There are several nice modern playgrounds for the kids. Nice piers and boat put in. Right on the side of the huge lake with beautiful view. We camped at Santee State Park in a Motorhome.

I pulled in for overnight stay after a rough (literally) ride on I-95. I didn't call first, just showed up at the entrance to the park. It was kinda confusing as there were no instructions for campers including how much. So, 2 bucks went into the envelope and after a bumpy ride, I found a level site. It was obviously off-season as the roads were not graded and the sites needed cleaning. I was waiting for the ranger to stop by and collect the camping fee but he never stopped by. As I was sharing the whole park with about 7 or 8 other friendly campers, it was a quiet stay. I would come back. We camped at Santee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a nice get away campground. I live about 40 miles from here and camp here often. Someone said they reserved a 50 amp site? There are no 50 amp sites there. This is an older campground kept up pretty well by the rangers and hosts. Fishing is mostly catfish and there are a few nice golf courses nearby. I have found that most of South Carolina State Parks are about the same. All built around the same time and not much updating. We camped at Santee State Park in a Motorhome.

This is our second stay at this park. It is about 70 miles from home so it makes a weekend get-a-way easy. There are many other state parks that are much better than this one. The check in process is easy and staff is very nice. We stayed on the Cypress loop (small campground). The road in the campground is dirt and filled with potholes. It is very rough and dusty. Navigation is not difficult even for large rigs as the roads are wide enough. The sites are all dirt. Some are more level than others. The sites have a lot of tree roots making leveling of a coach difficult. When we arrived at our site, it was not very clean. I had to rake the site of limbs, pine cones, and leaves. AT&T cell service and 4G is good. Mi-Fi had great reception. Over the air TV has about 8-10 channels. Bath house was clean and well stocked each time I visited. The rangers made rounds through the campground every couple of hours. The nearest stores are about 5 miles from the campground. There is a lakefront store in the park. However, it is stocked more with T-shirts, etc. and only a few camping or food related items. Firewood and ice is available at lake front store. We camped at Santee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

I agree with the previous review in regards to rough roads and sites with tree roots. The sites are spaciously apart from each other in most cases. There is free & very good Wi-Fi at the store and ranger station. It does not reach the campground area. Our Verizon My-Fi and cell service was spotty. We didn't have sewer at our site (lake front). Water pressure was good and power was stable. We camped at Santee State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Made reservations for 50amp site, but only site we found large enough and straight enough to back into was 30amp. Roads were very tight and rough. Feral cats in abundance, my dogs were not happy. It was OK for an overnight stop, but I'll try somewhere else next trip. We camped at Santee State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice place in general. Location a bit remote. Trees provide shade on all sites, but also makes the reception of sat TV near impossible with a roof mounted dish. We did manage to find a small hole between trees on site #120. Verizon Internet reception was good. Bumpy road that are narrow in places for big rigs. Restrooms are old and not in good repair. No soap provided and no means for drying your hands. We never found any washing machine. The park would benefit from a general overhaul. Very nice golf courses nearby. We would stay here again. We camped at Santee State Park in a Motorhome.
