We arrived late in the evening after a long 10 hour drive and found that our site was occupied. Another long term guest close by helped us navigate the tight roads and pull into another site. We contacted the owner and he was helpful and apologized. The interior roads are narrow, sites are a bit tight to get in to. It is heavily wooded with lots of shade. Facilities were decent and clean. It had gravel road and pads. There are several long term campers here. Verizon service was very good. The rate reflects the value in this campground. We would return again. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

By the time we leave this park we will have stayed almost 3 months. Maneuvering through the park is tight but manageable. The turn into our site was really tight but plenty of room once set up. They have a few big rig sites that they keep back for folks to have short term stays in. There are many folks here that are permanent, you can tell from the amount of stuff laying around their sites, and many here working the cleanup caused by Matthew. Very quiet starry nights. Wifi is unusable after about lunch time but we were told they are expanding. Verizon signal is 4-5 bars. Our site has just enough clearance in the trees to pick up the eastern arc for our satellite. There is a huge dog run and playground for the kids plus many trails to walk. Was told by our neighbor that since Hunting Island State Park will be closed for the next year, this park is much busier. We have enough room at our site to park 4 vehicles. All in all this is a decent place to stay and would again. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is so much to do here and this park is central to it all. Must eat at the Foolish Frog which is a couple of minutes away and La Nopalera is some amazing Mexican food. Go see Fort Fremont, Penn Center and downtown Beaufort.

Overall Rating:

Camped here in a 37 foot motor home with a toad. Had no trouble maneuvering at the front of the park. Next to us was a 39 foot MH with a trailer. They went in and out with no trouble. Campsites had a wooden picnic table. We had good 50 amp service, water and sewer. Space 20 was listed as a premium site. Lots of space, oak trees and Spanish moss provide privacy between sites. There is a kids playground and a cement 1/2 court basketball area. Pond on site with bluegill and bass. Never saw the alligator. Very quiet at night, 5 bar Verizon signal, good cable, slow WiFi. Was able to get both Savannah and Charleston TV stations on RV mounted antenna. Soil is compacted sand and wood.

We weathered Tropical Storm Hermine here. Some falling oak branches, lots of rain and lost power for about 24 hours, but no damage. Trees blocked the wind. Some flies and mosquitos, love bugs and black gnats.

US Mail Package with medicines "lost." Park Management saying wasn't delivered, USPS saying it was. No resolution at this writing. Suggest you use general delivery at St Helena Island. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

End of island has overgrown Spanish American War coast artillery fort. Area center of Gullah culture, near Pitt School museum, good alternate for Hunter Island State park, visit Parris Island, drive to Hilton Head, visit Port Royal and Beaufort. Check Trip Advisor.

Overall Rating:

We do not recommend this campground for anyone with an RV over 25 feet in length. Although they claim to be able to accommodate large trailers and motor homes there is little maneuvering room to swing into or out of the sites. The roads are narrow with overhanging trees and require sharp tight turns. We were extremely relieved to get out of this campground without damaging our vehicle. Be advised and warned before heading here. NOT for Big RVs!! We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at this park 5 days while visiting the Beaufort, SC area. The name is appropriate because the campground is very wooded, and we found it extremely difficult to navigate through the trees. Entry and exit points had sharp curves and trees right in the curves, one of which we sideswiped with our fifth wheel, causing minor damage. The restrooms were clean and there were places to walk our dogs, although there was a warning sign about alligators. We didn't know if it was for humor or for real. Given the difficulty of navigation, we will not return to this park. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We have stayed here several times and find it very nice. The sites are reasonably spaced, well maintained and pretty quiet. There are some seasonal sites that are maintained nicely. It is close to Beaufort and several museums that we wanted to see. We would camp there again. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Travel Trailer.

A true southern low country campground. Plenty of trees, and long pull-throughs. Ground is mostly sand and wood chips. Have stayed here many years while family vacations on Fripp Island. Only drawback: every year new people are in charge of managing. However, all seems to run well. PS: bring some mosquito spray! We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Motorhome.

All the previous posts are correct. I camped in a 39 foot MH and had no problem. Luckily the mosquitoes have not been an issue. Sites are large enough to accommodate full slides and awnings. Excellent owners and very quiet and dark evenings. We loved it. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a rustic and very quiet campground. The people are the most friendly I have ever met, I had small mishap with my trailer and everyone near to me came to help, they went out of there way to make sure things were taken care of. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The sites are far enough apart and pretty easy to get into although some are slightly not level but is not a problem. Roads are not paved but are well packed down and not a problem getting through. Cable TV and Wi-Fi worked great. This is one I would keep going back too. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Stayed here for one night. Definitely in the woods and the swamp. Pros: All the bells and whistles, WI-FI (free), cable (many channels). Definitely quiet except for the sirens at night. The charming woman in the office was great. Sites are level. Very little light at night. Price right. Cons: Roads are tight with trees very close. Glad we had a truck camper. The campground is complete tree covered and surrounded by what I call a swamp. It was 80 or so and so many mosquito's (in October) we couldn't sit out and enjoy the sun. The internet wasn't that great, couldn't post photos on Facebook. Laundry was $2 to wash and $1.50 to dry. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Truck Camper.

This campground is very nice for a secluded getaway. It is very close to Beaufort for sight seeing, and it is close to Hunting Island State park where you can go to the beach. (And if you cannot get into the Hunting Island RV Camp, this is the next best thing.) The sites are nice, wooded and have good services for Elec/Water/Sewer/Cable. Recreation for the kids includes a unique water slide and basketball court, hiking and fishing. Has a nice little lake with wrap around dock for fishing. There is a Community Center for gatherings. Great place for Group camping. Camp host was terrific! We will come back. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Motorhome.

Now this is a campground! Picture a large quiet wooded area with dirt roads snaking through connecting randomly scattered good sized sites (many pull through) carved out of the woods. Good Wi-Fi and Cable coverage. Clean laundry and good sized bath house. Friendly staff. Convenient to Beaufort, Parris Island, and the coast. Would definitely return if in the area again. Great name for this place. It is so quiet away from any main roads. Wi-Fi was a little iffy the first day, but after that was fine. We stayed 4 days because we had friends in nearby Beaufort. Bathrooms were very clean. Great price for 50-amp, water, sewer, cable, and free Wi-Fi. We would return again if in the area. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a nice quiet park with big sites. Many of the sites are pull throughs. The staff was friendly. The free Wi-Fi was great as well. Tuc in the Woods is minutes away from Paris Island. They even gave us directions to the Marine base. If you have a new Marine at Paris Island, this is definitely the place to stay. We camped at Tuck in the Wood Campground in a Motorhome.
