The park itself is not bad, if you are looking for a very rustic place to stay for a few nights and your main goal is to get back to nature. Unfortunately, it rained during our one full day here, so we were stuck in the camper most of the day. Cell service (Verizon, at least) was very iffy at best and antenna television sounded like Max Headroom on a loop (channels constantly froze or just went completely out). Bad cell service and lack of TV reception was an issue even when it was sunny & nice weather: the thick trees just make it impossible to get either one.

The worst issue that I found, however, was that the sites are completely sand. Sand was tracked all over everything & everywhere: before the rain. After the rain, it was just a lost cause. They really need to add some gravel to help keep the sites a little better for use.

The dump station is located in an odd area in comparison to the roads exiting the park. The only way to navigate it easily is to pull across and travel back through the campground to the exit again.

The park rangers, like with most state parks around SC, were awesome as usual and the camp host was very nice. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived late and left early so we didn't have much time to enjoy this park. I called ahead for late arrival instructions and was given the gate code by a very friendly employee. I was a little disappointed that a 2 night stay was required during the week. Interior roads were tight and I would not have wanted to be navigating a truck and trailer. Bathhouse was clean although a little dated. We would return if in the area again. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Nice quiet campground, a bit off the beaten path. All dirt/sand interior roads and sites, but reasonably graded and all level. Interior road is a bit tight if you are in a big rig, but there were several in the park. Park is back in tall pines and very quiet. We had water even with temps going below freezing at night.

Recommend coming in on SC 53. You can come in from the South over Old Tory Trail, but there are NO SIGNS, but the GPS will give you good directions, even though you think you are off on a wild goose chase. You have to cross over a dirt dam on gravel, but it's a good road, just a bit of a surprise! We camped at Aiken State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Excellent value for water electric site, but 30A only. Campsites are packed sand with fire ring and picnic table. Verizon service is ample for voice and data. Campground host was really nice and raked all sites after they were vacated. Heavily treed, pine trees, satellite reception doable with a portable unit, but tough. Our roof mounted unit could not connect, but there are some OTA stations available. Canoeing on the Edisto River is available. Not a bad stop-over location. One big gripe: The design of the dump station is horrible for big rigs. The whole park is on a one way loop that is probably 2 miles or more long. If in a big rig using the dump station there is insufficient space to make the sharp turn back on to the one way road. There would be the potential to turn back onto the campground loop, but a large sign has been placed in way preventing making that turn either. We left via going the wrong way on the one way, and this is common, we saw others do the same. On the bright side there is room and little traffic so no problem, but driving a mile the wrong way just doesn't feel right so to speak. The park should rectify this problem or make the one way a two way. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a small CG, consisting of just one loop within a pine forest. Roads and sites are sandy, but level and easy to maneuver with our 36 ft 5th wheel. Most sites are spacious enough and reasonably spaced from each other. Full cell coverage with Verizon, voice and 3G with Sprint, and none with ATT.

Site 11 is larger and more distant to neighbors. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

$20 per night was for a level packed sand pull-though site with 30-amp electric and water. Our site, #12, was completely shaded by large trees. The site had a wooden picnic table and fire ring on the "wrong" side. As stated in previous reviews, it's a bit challenging to drive over the bumpy, narrow, tree-lined campground roads in a 40' motorhome towing a vehicle but it can be done. It was pleasantly quiet during our stay. The facility is well maintained and very attractive. The campground host was very friendly and helpful as was the park ranger. There are many activities available, which you can find listed on their website. The nearby city of Aiken is gorgeous in the old downtown area and has every amenity available. AT&T cell service was nonexistent and Verizon service was acceptable. We received eight digital over-the-air TV stations and many radio stations. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Motorhome.

Wonderful park! Hidden jewel, which is nice, because it isn't crowded, and I hope it stays that way. Yes, the main road through the campsites is a bit bumpy, but that is the only thing we could find wrong with it. Well, the water pressure was a tad low, too. Our campsite (#19) was spacious and we had no problem letting out the slide or the awning. We intended to walk to the start of the canoe trail on the South Fork Edisto River, but the camp ranger offered to drive us there, kudos! We had a wonderful time on the water, and on this trip for that matter. We will certainly be back! We camped at Aiken State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A very large state park and it has a small 25 site camping park nestled in the Pine Woods with the ground mostly covered with fallen pine needles. It was built in the 1930's by the CCC. The roads and the campsites reflect the custom of those times. They are small, even tiny and narrow. The roads are narrow enough as to make it awkward, even difficult for one to easily back a RV into a space. Pine trees rule! Way too many of them, which helps to block a camper from extending both sliders and awnings. The park has rental canoes which is a real plus. The park is somewhat off the beaten path accessible via paved country roads in a rather desolate part of the state. A park ranger told us that the busiest seasons here are either Spring or Fall. We were here in September and found the bugs great enough in number that we did not bother having a fire. Bathrooms are functional, clean, and well ventilated. TV reception was very good. Neither one of our cellular phones were able to make a connection. We'd recommend visiting this camp if you are an agile driver, had a smaller rig, and loved to canoe or fish. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Travel Trailer.

What a great park. This is another one of the CCC parks that was built in SC in the 1940's. Only 25 sites but they were all level with a few that had large pine trees in the middle. Lots of large pine trees throughout and very quiet, There are a couple of spring-fed crystal clear ponds that you can access via a short hike from the campground, or another pond about 3/4 mile away that is also great for fishing and picnicking. When it is warmer we will go back for the canoe rentals on the Edisto River. Lots of trails throughout the park. The bath houses had been freshly painted, very clean and warm (it was 25 deg when we were there). The rangers were very nice and helpful. The road in the campground could be tight for any long rigs. We could access Verizon on our iPad with 2-3 bars. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Motorhome.

WE LOVED THIS PARK. When we first arrived I wondered "what did I get myself into?" No park ranger was in sight, and our camp site had a big tree in the middle...no way to get our 28 foot travel trailer in. A camper told us that they would come around and that they changed sights with no trouble. He was right; we chose a site and all was well. The campground is on sand, something unexpected...but the kids loved it. This was a very laid back place, with lots of natural activities to do. Several lakes to explore. One lake feels hidden among the trees, but has a bridge over a spill way and a covered area for lunch. So every day we rode our bike over for lunch and to catch frogs. The other lake was great for fishing, with benches and a park area. We also went on a canoe ride, they had rentals, the river was low but it was a beautiful river. We will come back to this one. It's a great place to zone out. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Good site well off in the woods. Restrooms weren't that clean. Spacious sites, very peaceful. Wouldn't recommend in the summer, very hot and buggy. Good fire rings in all sites. Level and easy access to sites. Road is a bit tight but travel trailers shouldn't have a problem. Small fifth wheels with 30A should be good too. Far off the beaten path, and it takes some time to get to places, but good place to get out and relax. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is an older and smaller State Park located about 20 miles from the city of Aiken SC. We spend Friday and Saturday there and were actually surprised that we could have spent a few more day since there was more to do then we thought. I originally reserved a pull through site since I thought I'd be making the drive alone but when we got there I really didn't like it. We went to the main office to see about switching but it's only open 11am-12pm and then you have to call the ranger on his cell phone. That wasn't a problem and he was fine with us moving since there were only four other sites in use anyways. For an older, smaller and less popular park, it was well maintained. The bathrooms were cleaned everyday and although the showers were older, they were clean as well as the shower curtain and had great hot water. The sites were dirt/sand packed and all of them were cleared of pine straw so you could tell they were taken care of. There are canoes to rent to take down the Edisto River, an area in the campground to play horseshoes, 3 mile nature trail, great flat surfaces for bike riding, and several ponds and picnic shelters. Although he wasn't at the office, we saw the ranger riding around several times a day and at night so we knew he was around. The only reason I didn't give it a ten was because there was no camp store, you could buy firewood from the ranger but nothing else and the redneck gas station down the road was a little scary. Other then that it served it's purpose as a great weekend getaway and I would love to go back when we have more time. We camped at Aiken State Park in a Travel Trailer.
