Open and sunny, sites are wide spots in road to pull over and alongside the paved road. Ok but a feeling of being in the street. Park ran by a concessionaire and was given a discount for federal pass but not 50 % like typical. Can be windy. Views of Badland peaks. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Our 5th wheel is 35 feet and for the space we were in there wasn't room for truck. No designated overflow parking sites so put truck near dumpster at restroom, no big deal. Left one of our slides in as felt it was sticking unnecessarily into road.

I think my exceptionally high rating for this campground was because of the views we saw each morning when we went outside. This National Park has to be one of my all-time favorites and it was great to be able to stay in the campground and see the park first-hand. When we originally booked the dates and site, the on-line map makes it look like a typical campground with the individual sites radiating off of the campground roads. However, the majority of the sites are on and parallel to the main road, a set-up that I have never seen before. In fact it reminded me of pictures of the way wagon trains in the old west would circle together at night for safety. At first I was a little concerned as our 40 inch slide was extended into the actual roadway, but as the majority of campers were back at their sites before dark, it never turned out to be a problem. The campground was full on the nights we were there and it was peacefully quiet. One morning we got up before sunrise to see the sun coming up on the Badlands, and I was embarrassed by the noise our truck made when I started it to head to one of the overlooks. Because the campground is on a plain there is always wind, so if you are tenting, be prepared with plenty of stakes to hold it down. It took four of us to help hold a neighbors tent while they were trying to secure it. If we come back to the Badlands, Cedar Pass would be our only choice. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

We were looking for a campground that would be convenient to visit Badlands National Park. We're self contained and don't use the facilities. We camped here on a weeknight.

This is a perfect spot from which to tour the Badlands. Agree with other posts: paved 'pull-over' sites are different as are having the door of the RV open onto a wide spot on the road. And sites at first appear to be arrayed in a large field without shade. Each site has picnic table with a shelter providing shade. Some have electric. There are water spigots and a dump station. There is no wifi. Verizon and ATT coverage is ok.

All sites have great views. We believe the gorgeous view of the Badlands and convenience of being so close to the park far outweigh the funkiness of the unusual arrangement of the sites. Reservations can be made. For walk-ins, they begin assigning sites at 2pm when busy. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are many hiking trails near the park and roads are ok for biking. The park puts on daily interpretive sessions at an amphitheater walking distance from the CG. It's also walking distance or a short drive from the Visitor Center and a small restaurant. The tiny town of Interior is about a mile away.

Camping in the Badlands was a unique experience. The views are spectacular. The campground offers electric only. The sites are pull offs from the main road. We had a reservation and so were able to obtain a site large enough for our fifth wheel and truck. The site was reasonably level. The electric was well placed and functioned as expected. Each site has a picnic table and a wind screen. We checked in at the hotel and were directed to our site. The hotel could use better signage for RV parking while checking in. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice to have a campground inside the park. Very windy. Our site, 67, was supposed to accommodate our 37' travel trailer. However, as all the pull-through sites are essentially a pull-out scoop of the road, our trailer was dangerously close to passing traffic. The road finishes a turn here and the rear of our trailer was just inches from passing traffic. Thank goodness for the generosity of the family in front, who gave up several feet to allow us to pull forward. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to view the visitors center, fossil trail, and the overlook just inside the entrance near northeast entrance. The Prarie Homestead Historical site just outside the park charges a fee but is a fair amount to see an historic sod home and prairie dogs up close.

I stayed here for three nights. Normally, national park campgrounds are not big rig friendly. However, this campground worked out well for me. The site layout is a bit unusual, resembling parallel parking spaces. This places the "patio" side on the street side. However, the roadway is plenty wide to not cause a hazard going in and out of one's rig. The sites are out in the open, with beautiful views of The Badlands. They are also conveniently located to the amphitheater, visitor center and lodge store. Campground was very quiet. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Evening ranger programs were very informative and included a night sky program given by a volunteer astronomer.
Store at lodge has very little in the way of groceries, so come prepared.
Minuteman Missile center close by was very interesting.

Camping in the Badlands is such a wonderful experience, that any shortcomings in the campground seem too trivial to mention. Understand, though, that the campground is basically an open field with only wind/shade shelters and picnic tables. Only some of the sites have electric hookup (no water and no sewer). And the "pull-through" sites are really "pull-over"; that is, there are wide spots in the loops where one pulls over and sets up. That also makes for a weird arrangement where, if the pull-over is to the left of the drive, the curb-side elements of the RV (door, slide-out, etc.) are on the roadway. For this reason, the best sites would be those where the pull-over is to the right of the roadway, although that would mean running the electric cord to the curb-side. (Or, some people simply drive the wrong way on the campground loop and then set up.) The whole campground is an easy walk or bike ride to the amphitheater where they have wonderful ranger programs every night. And, of course, the Badlands Loop is memorable. Hiking in the Badlands is different from most national parks; the whole area is basically open and people are free to walk or climb wherever they want. There are a few marked trails, and we did several. The "Notch Trail" (if you don't mind climbing a ladder) is especially worthwhile, and the 4-mile loop trail out into the grasslands gives a worthwhile perspective. We stopped in Wall, but decided to skip the Wall Drug experience. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We stayed here one night. We did not have a reservation. The cost is a bit steep for electric-only pads and despite the fact that it is in a Federal park, our senior pass discount did not apply. I think the park is privately managed. We had to abort our first two pads because of the unlevelness. The sites are all pull-throughs with no buffer between the pad and the road. Our slide-out was literally jutting into the road. The park is open, windy and dusty but the views of the Badlands, only a quarter mile away is stunning. There is no restriction on walking in the Badlands and we took a such a walk before sunset. It was an experience to remember. The nearby visitor center is excellent. There is also a restaurant within an easy walk. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Yes, the parking is just sort of along the road, but it's perfectly adequate for a night or two. The view is awesome and the grounds were clean. It does seem to fill up quickly so I would secure a spot early. The website said it's "first come, first served" but there were "reserved" tags on many posts so I'm not really sure what that's about. No wi-fi but Verizon had adequate coverage. Didn't use restrooms/showers so can't comment. This is not a "resort". It is a convenient place to stay for a night or two while you explore the fantastic Badlands. I would stay again. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Truck Camper.

The views of the surrounding badlands are amazing. Newly paved roads made for good biking in CG and also in the park itself. Can save $ by not getting a site with electric. We did 1 night without and 1 night with, saving about $18. Nearby Interior CG (2 mi) looks good to for $28. The park is very quiet and clean. September weather here is beautiful. Not too hot and not too cold at night. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The loop road is mostly flat for about 5 miles out from the CG, making for a nice bike ride through the park. Traffic was very light adding to the enjoyment. Lots of Big Horn Sheep in this park so drive slowly. Good grocery store inside the town of Interior, only 2 mi outside Park entrance on the south side.

Folks, this is a prairie campground so don't expect big shade trees. But do expect a beautiful view, both day & night. We got there at about 5pm on a Saturday and were very lucky to get the last electric site. People were pouring in after us so get here early if you want electric, if not, sites were available late. While no sewer or water hookups there is water spigot near by and there is a dump station. Something about this place seemed magicial, one of the most friendly CGs we've been in (might have been the blood moon eclipse). Be sure to drive the loop, so much to see in the Badlands. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

GREAT location (and views) for exploring the Badlands and area. Even in late September with no reservation, don't get here too late if you want electric hookup. Depending on rig and size, sites can be tight. Diversity of other campers is wonderful. Very helpful host. Good access to optional routes into Rapid City/Black Hills. As others have said its like parking along a road. The one thing I didn't like were some of these camp spots were very unlevel and it took quit a bit to get our trailer level front to back. Beautiful area especially so at night! Phone service was pretty bad. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very cool campground because it's located right in the Badlands. We had a nice view to the West in the morning but a great view to the East in the evening . I had to level both ways but it wasn't too bad. Most of the campers were in tents rather than RVs but it was very quiet. The dump station area had plenty of room and was easy to enter and exit. If you are heading to Rapid City when leaving this campground, Highway 44 is a nice alternative to Interstate 90.
The largest and best sites are on the outside side of the loops because the roads travel counter clockwise.

Ok for overnight stay but I don't think I would want to stay for more than one night unless you want to enjoy the park for a few days. Almost full when we arrived at 6pm. All parking at on side main roads. Greatful for a place to stay since there are not a lot of campgrounds in the area. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.
