Very Nice campground close to I-90 and 229. All spots were back in, 50AMP, and very spacious. The park was a nice park and we were able to easily walk the dogs. We stayed here one night. Cost was 20$ and 7$ state park car fee. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

After staying in many commercial RV parks, staying at this state park was a treat. It was quiet, comfortable and relaxing. All sites are electric (50 amp) only but there's a water and sewer stations you enter. No need to travel with a full tank of water. Sites are set up far apart so you won't feel cramped at all. We will definitely return!! We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful park. Sites are level and lots of space between sites. Only electric available - no water or sewer hookups. But we were only there for 2 nights so did not need them. There are walking trails (some paved) , disc golf, and archery targets. There is a nice shower house but also pit toilets available closer to some of the loops. OTA TV worked fine. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This is generally a well kept park. The sites are well separated and flat enough not to need leveling blocks. They were wide enough to back into without too much trouble. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a well kept clean campground with good spacing between the site. Most of the sites, including ours, had varying amounts of shade. Our site and the majority of the others were level enough not to need blocks. All of the sites are gravel and most were large enough to fit a 40'+ motorhome and a tow vehicle. The road through the campground was asphalt with no low hanging branches. There was some occasional road and airport noise but nothing too bad. The nightly rate above does not include the state park daily access fee of $4/person or $6/vehicle. Alternatively you can purchase an annual state park pass for $30 for the first vehicle and $15 for the second vehicle which gives you access to all of South Dakota's state parks. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are about 5 miles of walking or biking trails within the recreation area. The Big Sioux River runs adjacent to the recreation area and is suitable for canoeing and kayaking. The Falls Park in Sioux Falls is about 15 minutes away.

This is our second visit to this park. Nothing much has changed except the fees have gone up 10%. They charge a $7.70 fee for out of state visitors plus taxes so your advertised $19 electric only campsite will end up costing you $28 plus the $4/person or $6/car entry fee. Despite the somewhat high cost, this is still a nice little park with well spaced sites. A sign on the entry post says you must have a reservation to stay here & I watched a guy struggling to make a reservation on his phone. The entry post wasn't staffed at the time so I don't know if they can get you a reservation on the spot or if you still have to get online to do it yourself. I'd recommend you just arrive with a reservation to eliminate any hassle. All sites are pretty much the same with full shade and approx. 60' long level gravel back-ins. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Lovely campground! Very level, deep sites. Mature trees but nothing in the way when you back in. Nice fire pit and picnic table. Very spacious in between sites--at least 20 yards between sites. We were in Site 33E but any site on our loop was great. Also liked Sites 17E, 42E, and 46E. Bathrooms were OK but quite a few bugs--not unlike most state park bathrooms. The rate of $25/night was a good value (electric only) but requires an additional State Park pass ($30 annual or $7 week?). Dumpsters were full when we were there. Firewood was $5/bundle and you pick the pieces. There was an excellent Frisbee golf course on the property and a great bike/running trail right along the Big Sioux River. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Falls Park in downtown Sioux Falls was beautiful. Palisade State Park was a few miles away from the campground (requires South Dakota park pass) with scenic (but short) hiking trails. We went to Devil's Gulch but didn't think it was worth the time (unless you're a diehard Jesse James history buff).

We really enjoyed our stay here. Even though the sites are electric only (50 amp), the showers were very modern and clean so we used them daily. The sites are huge with lots of space between each site and lots of grass. The sites are almost all in the shade which was also a plus considering it was hot in July. Those with satellite dishes may have problems. There's a very large grassy field in the center of the main loop, a long walk/bike path through the park, and a Frisbee Golf course. Even though the park is along the Big Sioux River, there's no easy access to the river as it's down a steep embankment. We love places where our dogs can get wet to cool off, but we were rarely able to take advantage of that here. The nearby town of Brandon has most things you could need, but if not it's only a little further to Sioux Falls which has everything else. We had strong AT&T and Verizon signal throughout the park. We wanted to stay longer, but the campground was sold out every weekend so we could only stay during weekdays when it was half empty. The large campsites, peaceful surroundings, and large clean showers were the big draws for us. If they had water at each site we'd rate it even higher. There's fresh water at the dump station near the entrance, and at two or three spigots around the park. We'd definitely return. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Nice campground with long, level gravel back-in sites suitable for any size rigs. If desired, you can reserve a site online but that will cost you an additional $7. With taxes and a $4-6 entry fee per car, we paid about $28 per night for a 2 night stay--a little steep for an electric only site. All sites are 50A electric only & generously spaced apart with a picnic table & fire ring. I only saw a couple of water spigots so bring plenty of fresh water. There is a dump if needed. Heavy shade will likely prevent satellite access. Both Verizon & ATT had good signals. There are some nice bike trails in the park and in downtown Sioux Falls. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

A nice state park with big sites and plenty of shad. Plenty of room between sites and easy to get in. Bathroom facilities were good. Good walking trails near the river. We also paid the additional $6 entrance fee to the park. Near shopping areas. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

We also had to pay an entrance fee of $6 which made our camping cost us $22. The staff was excellent and helped us with every question we had. The park is close to shopping. There are only electric hookups here; the new 50 Amp service is spot on. Our dish antenna couldn't get a signal through the thick tree coverage. The mosquitos were really bad so bring lots of repellent. We would certainly stay here again. We camped at Big Sioux Recreation Area in a Motorhome.
