Not quite the busy season yet but emailed our request for a site for a few nights. Arrived and was greeted by friendly, courteous, outgoing staff in office. We booked in for 4 nights.

One thing I can say about Beaver Lake is if I was ever going to own an RV resort/campground, I would want it to be just like Beaver Lake.

Sites are level even tho park is in undulating terrain. Services were grouped together in the middle of our site, not spread out like we have seen elsewhere.

Cable was great - just remember most stations are 1 hr ahead. Fooled us a couple of times.

Wifi was excellent, but not many in the park in early-mid May. Streaming is not permitted, but searches and email (standard stuff) work very nicely. I was able to easily keep our blog updated.

Washrooms were clean. Laundry has 5 washers and 6 dryers - look new.

I was told owners have had the park for 15 years and over time have improved the park. This is evident.

Do yourself a favor and stay here for your visit. You won't regret it. We sure didn't and we will stay here again if we're in this neck of the woods again.

Thanks very much for a really nice stay. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

In the four days we stayed, we did Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Jewel Cave, and Iron Mtn Road and Needles scenic drives.

Custer is a neat little town. We don't eat out much these days, so cannot comment on restaurants, etc.

Family owned. Fantastic campground. Quiet, clean, well manicured grounds. On our way to Alaska, best campground thus far. Highly recommend. We stayed in a 38-footer. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Worked this area pretty good. Easy day trips--Devil's Tower, Mt Rushmore, Badlands. Spectacular state.

Visited Custer in 2011 and stayed here. We came back this year for a 2 week stay and decided on Beaver Lake from our past experience. Campground was in good condition overall. Considering the landscape the sites are all relatively level as I did not see people having to do much side to side adjustment. Wifi can be spotty depending on the time of day and how many users are connected and cell signals in the mountains are always flaky. If we had something we needed a cell signal for we would just walk to the top of the hill and it was fine. Overall I would chose to stay here again as the need to be connected does not outweigh the pleasant atmosphere at this campground. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Many things to do and see in the town of Custer and the surrounding area. Devils Tower is only 2 hours away and don't miss all the wild life in Custer State Park.

We stayed in a 38' motorhome with tow dolly and toad. Sites were supposed to be 40'x60' but I think they were more like 25'x45'. There was no room for our toad anywhere near the motorhome. We had to park the car at the top of a hill near the office. They put us in one site and the next day we had to move. No reason was given. Still, this was not a big rig site. Internet security blocked many websites that were considered "gambling". These were normal everyday sites anyone might visit for information. The personnel at the office did not seem to be very knowledgeable. They had no knowledge of why we were moved or why internet security prevented many sites. I do research on family history and was prevented from doing so at this campground, i.e. Ancestry and LDS websites were considered gambling sites and blocked. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Places to visit are Mt Rushmore and Custer State Park. Would not

recommend National Museum of Woodworking as the $10 fee per adult was a bit high.

Stayed here to visit Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore. Nice owners. Our spacious gravel-grass site had some shade. It was near the road, but it was pretty quiet at night. Lots of bunnies running around. We would stay here again. Custer is a neat little town. Ate at Black Hills Burgers and Buns; some of the best burgers we've ever had! We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Custer State Park is the gem of South Dakota. Plan to go back, stay in the park and do more exploring. Also ride the bike path. Sylvan Lake is incredible.

We didn't have reservations and they were able to fit us in for 2 days while we were waiting to get into another campground. They lead you to your lot. The lot we had was on an end and therefore we had a huge front yard with no neighbors. We didn't drive around much in the campground but thought the other lots we could see were a bit tight. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This is very nice park that is easy to find with spacious sites that are a little tough to get in to because the are all on different levels with not much room to approach the site for parking. One word of caution: they close the office a 8 sharp. We had two occasions where people came in after 8 and didn't had a clue where to park and had no one to ask except other camp visitors. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We stayed here one week and could have easily stayed another week. Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Needles Highway, Custer State Park and Deadwood are all very interesting.

We enjoyed our stay here with one exception. Their Wi-Fi was barely usable, even when I sat beside the office, and I could not get a Verizon cell signal that would support data, so I felt very disconnected, since I use my computer for all my trip planning. I even had to ride down the road toward town to have a good phone conversation! Other than that, this is a nice park. It is on a pretty steep hill and the sites are terraced. They have nice grass, and the bathrooms are good. Owners are friendly and work hard to keep the place looking nice. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Class A and longer 5's or TT will have a harder than normal getting into your spot. Lots of bunnies so if you have dogs beware. Staff is super with a helping hand if needed. Gravel roads and lots with semi level sites. Sits on the side of the hills so very steep grades both in and out. Clean showers and restrooms. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

We loved this place. The close proximity to Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Crazy Horse, was a huge plus. My kids loved the pool and water slide. They also loved counting the bunnies. The staff was really helpful when it came helping us with our travel plans. The sites we fairly spacious with trees for shade. We just thought this place was great for all types of campers. Lots of amenities to accommodate all. We will be back! We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit Purple Pie Place in downtown Custer. Wonderful pie.

We loved this place. Clean park with a woodsy ambiance. Level, gravel, pull-through, full hookup site. Plenty of space between sites. Has fire ring and picnic table. Nice, friendly staff. Cute little bunnies roaming around. Cable TV with plenty of channels, but Wi-Fi is sporadic...sometimes good...sometimes not. Would've rated this place a 10 if it had better Wi-Fi. In addition to a pool, has a water slide. Slight fee for the slide. Plenty of space to walk the dog. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a nice, family-run campground in a great location for exploring the Black Hills. We extended our stay by a night. The campground isn't very large and it's built on the side of a hill so we were close to the neighboring sites but above and below them. Our site was a pull-through with full hook-ups that needed some leveling. The wifi was non-existent. Our kids enjoyed the semi-tame rabbits that were in the campground. The weather was rainy while we were there so we didn't use the pool or waterslide. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely drive the wildlife loop through Custer state park!

Very nice, hardworking folks run this park. The park has dirt/stone sites that can be somewhat crooked. The cable TV needs upgrading to more channels and the WiFi can be weak, especially with a full park. The trees and elevation changes make the park very special along with the rabbits that run around. The park RV store is very well stocked at reasonable prices. We were here for five weeks in a 42 foot 5th wheel. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There are a lot of things to do in the Custer, Hill City area of South Dakota, especially if you love the outdoors. Custer State Park was 7 miles from our door and offers hiking trails, water sports, & horseback riding. Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore Memorials are close by. Wind Cave National Park, and Black Hills NP are close by. The nearby towns are quaint with lots of character. You must drive 35 miles to get to Wal-Mart in Rapid City, SD.

We had a very nice time during our stay at Beaver Lake Campground. The facilities were very clean and tidy. The man who helped us get into our site was very helpful and kind. The kids had lots of fun running around the campground and playing with the bunnies. We camped at Beaver Lake Campground in a Travel Trailer.
