This is a gem of a CG. Level sites, good utilities and lots of shade. Plenty of room to walk the wiener dog and wildlife parading thru in the afternoon/evenings (deer, wild turkey). The owner led us to our site and helped to back us in. We stayed 10 days and I saw him sitting on the porch one time, always in motion. There is no cable and we found only 1 air channel but the wifi worked very well compared to most CG's we've visited. Laundry/game room were very good. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Restaurants we liked: 1881 Bank, Baker's Bakery cafe, Pizza Mill, Custer Wulf, Bugling Bull, Cowboy Cafe, Begging Burro, Black Hills Burger and Bun, Dakota BBQ. Custer is pretty convenient for visiting the local sites and Devil's Tower and the Badlands Scenic Loop are manageable as a day trip.

Big Pines was one of the nicest campgrounds that we have stayed in. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The showers/bathrooms were the cleanest that we have ever seen in our camping travels and the campground itself had everything we needed. We even had a horseshoe pit for evening relaxation. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Tent Trailer.

We loved this park. It's in the tall trees, but you can still see your neighbors. The space was so level, we got it right the first time we backed in, and didn't have to use any blocks or anything. The people running the park are terrific. They guided us to our spot, and the next day, they brought our firewood to our space for us, while we were running around. We will definitely stay here again when we return to the Black Hills. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Awesome place. This is our 5th time here. All the facilities are maintained in best possible condition, the sites are level and spacious, the areas to walk and have your pet seem endless, and the owners are the best of any I've experienced. Black Hills offered lots to see so even though we spend a week + each time we come we still have only done about 1/3 of what we can do. We plan to return next year to this campground!!!! We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a nice park in an area littered with RV parks. It is situated on a hillside, with sites scattered among tall pine trees that provide welcome relief from summer heat. We spent two nights in a 19-foot motorhome in mid-July; the rate for 30 amp and water was $39/night. The entry road and sites are gravel and well-maintained; sites are reasonably level and large enough. Most RVs are small or mid-size with fewer big rigs than usual, and there is a separate area for tent campers. It was surprisingly quiet on Friday and Saturday nights, even though nearly full. The restrooms and showers are spacious and immaculately clean, and there is a dishwashing station at the restroom facility. There is a nice camp store at the office and managers are friendly and helpful. My complaints are very minor. Our site was graveled where we parked, but the area around the table and fire ring was bare ground and dusty - a little more gravel or mulch would be welcome. And there could be more trash and recycling cans around the park. WiFi, as at most parks, is a bit sketchy ... but that's about it. I give it a B+/A- rating. The reason I do not give it the highest rating is the lack of certain facilities found at A/A+ parks: laundry facilities, pool or hot tub, rec room, etc. ... but a place I would be happy to stay again. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Motorhome.

This was our second visit to the Black Hills and Big Pine Campground is now our favorite. As another review stated, the campground is built on a hill among tall pine trees. We had reservations but made better travel time than expected with an earlier arrival. We called the day before arrival to inquire availability for an additional night. The owners were most accommodating with putting us in the only available site for one night and moving us the next day to our reserved site. They were apologetic for the move, but we certainly understood the situation and were happy to arrive a day early. The owner escorts you to your site and assists in backing in among the trees. We have a 35 foot 5th wheel and had no issues... even with our move to the second site without the escort. Sites include a picnic table and fire ring and the campground is convenient to all the sites in the Black Hills. Bath house is spotless and the laundry room with four washers and dryers is clean and large. One of the nicest laundry's I have used. Firewood is available for purchase and is delivered to your site. We loved the campground with the "luxury" of full hookups and laundry on site and the rustic feel of a state park. We would definitely visit again. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We've been to this campground in the past and return every year because it's a great place. Spacious, clean, easy-to-park sites and most importantly, wonderful owners. It's close to downtown conveniences but far enough out that you still feel like you're in the woods. Pet friendly with plenty of space to walk dogs. Sites are large, level and well-maintained. We parked our 45' toy hauler in less than 8 minutes with the owner's helpful and friendly guidance. We had plenty of room to unhook our truck and also park 2 motorcycles. We were there 9 nights and received 1 night free. I would highly recommend this campground. We are already looking forward to going back! We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

I really want to give a good rating because the people are so nice. But...if you have a big rig I would not recommend. There are a couple of spaces you will fit, but the site is narrow and dirt. We stayed in site 6 which is quite near the road so there was some road noise. The user level is pretty tight. Small rigs and trailers would be fine and as I said, super nice owners. Big Pine campground is one of our favorite parks in the summer. We have stayed there several weeks over the last three years and plan to return next year. The owners are some of the best we have met in our travels. The sites are nestled in between large pine trees trimmed back so as to not scratch your coach. I noticed in a previous review someone mentioned no Verizon or AT&T service - we have always had service during our stays. We stayed at Big Pine in a 40' fifth wheel. Tips for other Campers:

We used this campground as a base for visiting Crazy Horse Memorial twice, Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park (Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Rd. and the wildlife road tour), also visited the Norbeck Wildlife Preserve and the Norbeck Overlook Black Hills National Forest (a good place to walk the dogs). Got takeout food along with pie and ice cream at the Purple Pie Place in Custer.
