We were in space 13E which is a handicap space. It is large and close to showers and restrooms, and close to refuge conainers. Cell signal is n/a in the spot, and spotty elsewhere. Follow the loop a few hundred feet around to the tent area on the right ... and you might get 2 to 3 bars. There is free wifi at the ChuckWagon/Registration area. You can sit outside in one of the outside tables for a limited amount of time. Take the Needles highway for a spectacular views and 3 tunnels. Cars only because it is narrow. We camped at Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Blue Bell has a store for gift shopping ... and Custer is nearby if you're into that. Too much to see and do for me to spend much money in gifts.

Absolutely spectacular State Park which is filled with wildlife and beautiful scenery as well as being located in the heart of the Black Hills. Blue Bell Campground is heavily forested and while sites are spacious some of the large trees make it very difficult to enter some sites. When we arrive the excellent Park host met us and discorded us to our site. As maneuvering are 38 foot fifth wheel into our reserved spot would have been very difficult he took us to an available site which was easier for us to park. The park is planning to remove a large number of these trees to make navigation easier. Our site was spacious and mostly level with easy access to the electric tower. We were able to pick up to OTA television stations. Verizon service was intermittent. The park hosts were the most friendly and helpful we have encountered at any State Park. There is so much to do in this park and in the surrounding areas that we plan to come back again. South Dakota requires a daily park entrance fee in addition to your nightly rate. We paid this when we checked in. We camped at Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The wildlife Loop Road was fantastic and we saw more animals then even Yellowstone. The drive to Wind Cave National Park was about 15 minutes away and well worth the visit. Be sure and do the scenic drive on the Needles Highway and take the scenic drive on the back route to Mount Rushmore. Neither of the scenic drives are appropriate for a big rig. food at The Game Lodge Restaurant is something you surely want to miss

Wow! Blue Bell Campground is an incredible campsite (about 30 spots for RVs and/or tents) and also about 20 cabins. This spot, inside the State park, is up a stunning windy road highlighting some of the best this park has to offer. We made it up with our 30 ft. Travel Trailer no problem (check the maps first, there are definitely some roads a RV cannot travel in this park). Bison are spotted frequently, along with other wonderful wildlife. There are several campsites in Custer State Park - Blue Bell is nestled among plenty of pine trees making it (in my opinion) the best campsite we spotted in the park. Electric (30/50) only, plus potable water at the camp. No dump station, but there are some in the park - ask directions. The restrooms and showers were spotless, clean, modern. The camp hosts super friendly and accessible. We camped at Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are general stores inside the park, and Lodges that serve meals. Needle's Highway Route is stunning, and Wildlife Loop Road takes you around the park where we spotted all the animals, easily. Take care not to take your rig on some roads (incl. Needles Hwy) due to tiny but awesome tunnels - maps have the restrictions listed. Sylvan Lake is a great place to hike and lunch. Wind Cave National Park is nearby. You won't be dissapointed in Custer State Park!

The campground was very nice. The bathrooms/showers were very clean. Sites were well spaced and paved, but not too level. The Blue Bell Lodge has a great restaurant. We were there for 3 nights and would definitely stay again. We camped at Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This campground in Custer State Park is in a beautiful setting. The sites are shaded or partly shaded. The bathrooms are the cleanest we have ever seen in a campground. The hosts are friendly and knowledgeable about the park and area. The location is central in the park, although, traveling through the park is slow due to narrow, winding roads, traffic and buffalo. Tips for other Campers:

The only dump station in Custer State Park is near the east (Hwy 36) entrance to the park. It's along ways from Blue Bell Campground. Unless you're going back out that way, you'll need to find a dump station in a near-by community.

Very quiet and peaceful. I loved the different activities/movies in the outdoor space. I/we are definitely coming back. This site is huge, however the fire ring and picnic table were a little removed as you had to go down a slight slope. No problem though. No dump station in the park, however it is not too far and we were able to dump before heading home. Good to know as now we won't have to be so stingy using our bathroom. Overall Rating:

As with Legion Lake Campground, there is only a 50 amp connection here, but no water or sewer hookups. The problem is that the pump out (for larger RV's) is located at the east end of the park, near the Game Lodge area, south on the Wildlife Loop Road, and the signage is lacking! So be prepared; come with your water on board or seek out a water spigot that is threaded. Our site was beautiful, spacious and under trees for shade. The fire pits are on the "wrong" side of the site for some reason. The nearby trail horses went by our site continuously; very entertaining! We had a strong Verizon signal in this campground and in the Legion Lodge area. Custer State Park is a beautiful park. We would come here again. Loved Custer State Park! Custer State park is beautiful, one of our countries finest. We stayed in the Blue Bell campground which like all others in the park has only electric hookups - no dump or water available. Our site was spacious and level although some sites were not level. The restrooms were the best on any state park we ever used very clean and modern. Blue Bell is a nice peaceful park with great caring hosts and a lovely setting. The park is reasonably close to the Black Hills major attractions. We are planning a trip back to Custer. We camped at Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The fee reflects the $22/site fee, plus the $15 park entrance fee, plus the $7 reservation fee. We camped in the Blue Bell campground, so no water or sewer at the site. The electric was good, the restrooms super clean, and the hosts very pleasant and helpful. The road through this campground is not designed for larger units and most of the sites have a very deep slope. Sloping may be front or back or as ours was (#33) to the side, so much so that we could not get level. The pad for the trailer was graveled pavement but the whole site was severely sloped, to the point it felt like a fun house. Not our speed. It is a beautiful park, with many very winding roads, beautiful vistas and sharp curves. We enjoyed the park and staff, but would not camp in Blue Bell again. We camped at Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Outstanding RV park. Beautiful, tall pines provided ample shade. Camp hosts extremely kind and gracious. Rest rooms very large and clean with accessible showers. Many sights and points of interest to visit. This is a must see area and is a tribute to South Dakota. We camped at Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Made a reservation for this Park and paid $31 for the reservation. The site was for electric only. Then when we arrived at the gate they wanted to charge an additional $15 in entry fee. $46.00 a night at a state park with electric only is outrageous. we stayed at the Legion Lake Campground when we ask the host if there was water and a dump available, they advised that it was 7 miles away on the wildlife loop. So I drove 7 miles to the dump and water fill station only to find out that the water fill station did not have a garden hose hookup, so I had no way to fill freshwater. Once I arrive back at the campground I backed in close to the bathroom and use the fresh water fill their with the long garden hose. I stayed in sight number eight and it was paid but not level. The wildlife Loop was nice and the park looked nice but unfortunately for $46 a night I will not be staying in this park again. We camped at Custer State Park - Blue Bell Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a gem of a State Park,. It has a dump station, but no water, sewer, Internet or cell. We stayed in the Game Lodge campground. Very well maintained with helpful and friendly staff. Road and pad are paved. The pads are level and wide, all back ins, and big rig friendly. Very quiet with space and privacy around the RV with lots of grass, shade trees, picnic table, and fire ring. The bathrooms are spotlessly clean and there is also a small laundry. There are so many things to see and do in this wonderful area. We would stay here again. This review is for the Game Lodge Campground. It was a wonderful experience; clean restrooms, great location in the park, nice paved walking trail for the dog. Be sure to fill up with water either before you get here or at the park as there is none on site. We would stay here again in a minute.
