We stayed here for three nights visiting Custer SP and riding Needles and Iron Horse highways. When we checked in the lady told us our registration was made for four nights and that we would have to unhook our motorcycle trailer and place it in their storage area. I started to get upset more about unhooking than the extra night. She was very accommodating and put us in a nice pull through site that fit us perfectly. The park was situated just down the road from the Sylvan Lake entrance to the park and was very convenient to downtown Custer. Aside from being charged the extra night, it was a pleasant campground. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Motorhome.

The park is close to the city of Custer and Custer State Park. The park sits about a fourth of a mile off the main road, so it is very quiet. The park is well maintained and the staff is very competent We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful park very close to downtown Custer. There is a gravel road to get into the park and it is well maintained. This park is on a slight hill but designed as such that the gravel RV sites are all very level and easy to get into. Plenty of room for our 43' coach and tow vehicle with room to spare. Office staff was very friendly and extremely helpful with information on local attractions. Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monuments within easy driving distance. 1/4 mile from Custer State Park. We were here 6 days and never ran out of interesting places to see. We will definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall this is a very nice park especially compared to the other parks in the area. WIFI was fairly good. As others have said the water pressure isn't the best and has a lot of minerals in it causing the water to look yellow but that isn't the parks fault, just the area so bring bottled water with you. Very nice size lots with grass in between sites and a picnic table and fire ring. The owners are very nice and check in was quick and easy. The park is a little over priced but not as bad as some others in the area. I would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We had a pull through site and it was fairly easy to navigate and set up. Staff was friendly. I think the rate is a bit high but it seems to be the case near many of the more popular NPs or tourist areas. We were quite close to Custer State Park and the Needles Highway. We enjoyed our time there and it's close proximity to Custer for restaurants and other activities. We would stay there again if in the area. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Very close to Custer State Park - you have to drive through the park to reach this campground. Make sure you don't make a wrong turn and drive the Needles Highway while towing your fifth wheel. We took our dually on the Needles and made it through the tunnels (width wise) but it was super close with just inches to spare. Had good bison burgers in Custer and there are decent choices for eating out.

We stayed here in June. The park is a few miles east of Custer, SD almost at the entrance to Custer State Park. It is very quiet about 500 yards off US 16A. Check in was quick the person at the counter was friendly. We had a large back in site that was not too hard to get into. The utilities worked well but the water is loaded with minerals can be rusty looking, its just the area. We had a filter and drank bottled water. The site was excellent lots of grass with a table and fire pit. The sites are some of the widest spaced we have seen. There are only a few pull throughs so if you don't like backing in you may want a different park. We found rigs of every type and size backed in here. In all a great stay (in spite of the rain), we have stayed here before and will be back, a great campground. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Campground was full. Full Hook-up, but sewer connection is at back of the site, so I used the dump station. Gravel sites. Only 2 shower stalls in a large campground were insufficient. Convenient to Custer State Park, so this is a good option because campgrounds in the state park fill up well in advance. No over the air TV. Dumpsters are not conveniently placed. Fairly good RV parking in the town of Custer, so it is worth the trip. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed here for a week while touring the Black Hills. You will do lots of driving while in the area since the attractions are scattered around. Choice of campground should take into account your preferred activities to minimize the driving times. This campground worked well for us since we wanted to be near Custer State Park and its amenities. It rained several days and on those days we drove to Rapid City for the more "inside" activities. This campground is a good choice for a long term stay and it is well maintained. Back in sites are large and easy to get in to. Utilities worked well, average water pressure. No cable TV and antennae stations are minimal. Lots of deer in the area. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Clean park. Very spacious. Super convenient for Custer State Park. We utilized the on-site car rentals, which was the reason we picked this park. No cable, and wifi wasn't great, but tolerable. Only one restroom building, which may be very far from your campsite. They were very accommodating to move us closer to the restroom, as we had our elderly parents with us. The kids had fun climbing on the rocks near the entrance. Only 2 washers, which seemed minimal for a large park. Staff were very friendly. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Wind Cave, Custer State Park, Bear Country and Mt Rushmore, of course. We didn't visit Crazy Horse this time (was here 10 years ago) and from the road it doesn't look like much has occurred. Alpine Inn in Hill City was good. The Purple Pie Place in Custer had the best pie of our entire trip. An Indian restaurant in Keystone was fabulous.

This big rig friendly park is very neat and well maintained with the beautiful Black Hills surrounding it. It is in the middle of the national forest but very close to the town of Custer and Custer State Park. Amazingly quiet and peaceful with spacious room between you and your neighbor. The pads are gravel with the one I stayed in being perfectly level side to side and front to back. It was more than long enough for my 40' RV and truck. There are picnic tables and fire rings at each camp site. Fire wood is available at the office (DO NOT use wood from the forest since it is illegal to do so). The hook-ups are all in the proper places and in good working order. The restroom and showers were clean and in good repair. You will see wildlife in the park. We saw deer and chipmunks. Most sites are back and are more than long enough for the biggest of big rigs; however, check the angle before you back in. The office sent me the wrong way and I was trying to back in at 120 degree angle. When I turned around to the correct angle, I easily backed in. The roads are very easy to maneuver with a big rig. There is no cable, but plenty of air channels and not to many trees to interfere with satellite. The downsides are weak to non-existent wifi (as with most parks), no fenced dog park, low water pressure (20 psi), and brownish water that looks yellow after going through my RV water filter. All in all a great little park that I would gladly stay at again. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We held our family reunion at Custer's Gulch RV Park in July 2017. We reserved many RV sites, tent site, and cabins, plus paid to reserve the "clubhouse" and covered picnic tables. As others have said, management was just plain mean. Ran people off when arriving early from out of state "come back at 2pm" even when the site was open. We were told we could park near clubhouse for 5 mins to load/unload. They ran everyone off immediately in a very rude manner! It felt like we were hoodlums - always under surveillance. Charged us extra for our son when we reserved a cabin that slept 6 - we were only 3 people. Our credit card was hit for an extra $60 with no explanation. RV sites had sewer connection so far away it took 3 tubes to reach. Tent sites have no water anywhere near, nor toilet facilities. Appalling treatment of guests. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Cabin.

Very nice park lots of lush green grass. Site we had was 40' wide and and 60'deep. Nice and level. The roads are gravel but there are speed bumps which slow people down and it keeps the dust down. The views at the park are really nice. We had a satellite friendly site. Some are, some aren't. The only problems we had were you couldn't buy water to wash your rig and the water itself was not good. I filled a pail to wash the bugs off my windshield and it was orange. Large back in sites, picnic table and fire pit on site, only 2 washer 2 dryers. Talked to owner, they know they need more, loved this place, the neg reviews are from people that should maybe stay in a hotel instead of camping, yes trash is at one end of park, nice walk, yes there is a pond?? In middle of park. It adds to the fact it's camping, very large sites. Surrounded by national forest. NO road noise. Can't love this place more. We rented one of the UTV.s..great 8 hours of fun.coming back here for sure. We camped at Custer's Gulch RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
