Great family campground. Stayed for a week. Had fire rings, fairly level site, nothing a leveling board couldn't fix. Lots of trees, staff was very friendly and helpful. Centrally located to lots of activities. Would stay here again. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

I found this park conveniently located just outside of the city of Custer. Easy access to all that the Custer area has to offer. The park was well run, clean and family friendly. The cable and WiFi both were up and operational. I will return to this park. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Although the showers and restrooms were very clean, the park overall was just satisfactory. We went for walks with the dogs and saw unclean sites where permanents stayed that just makes the place look dirty, but in the transient section it was OK. Our RV parking site was very unlevel, and having to back into it was a nightmare, really surprised I didn't damage RV due to the very inclined (uphill) backing in. Once settled in it was nice, but not very comfortable. No pavement anywhere, just rock roads. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

City of Custer full of things to do and good places ti dine. The 109 mile trail (Michelson) was great. We walked the trail both ways from a couple of days at least 7 miles. Also be aware most of the town is down on Wednesdays. Very peaceful place, loved Custer.

A fun little park very close to Custer and most Black Hills attractions. Seemed to have more shade than many of the other RV parks in the area, and individual sites had plenty of room. Owners and staff were very helpful and friendly. Some of the sites were a bit tricky to back into but not unmanageable. Very dog friendly but be sure to have Rover on a leash at night as plenty of deer come into the campground. Bathrooms and laundry were clean and had plenty of counter space. We enjoyed our stay and would come back again if we're in the area. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Bring your bicycle and ride the nearby Mickelson trail. Dakotamart in town is a good grocery with non-tourist-trap prices.

Campground is nestled in tall pine trees which made it a little tough to maneuver our 40' motorhome. Tow vehicles have to be unhooked at registration. No satellite reception but good Verizon signal. Laundry facilities were clean and reasonable priced. Restrooms/showers are family style. Good location for touring area. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Motorhome.

This campground is just outside Custer on a quiet road, where we saw deer on most days. The camp itself has lots of tall trees, so don't expect satellite reception, but the park cable is excellent. Our site was very level, no blocks needed. The owner, an Iraq war vet, escorted us to the site and made sure that everything was OK. He also later stopped by to make sure that all was still good. We ended up staying a few more days since the park and the surrounding area were so nice. Lots of friendly folks camp here. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Custer State Park, Wind Cave NP, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial and a trip to Badlands NP and Wall Drug are all outstanding. Rapid City has statues of all of the US Presidents along the cities' streets.

This campsite has a funny little name: Fort We-Lik-It but the location is conveniently located 1 mile from the town of Custer, close to Custer State Park, and about 20 miles from Mount Rushmore. It is heavily wooded being in the midst of the Black Hills. All sites are shaded and roomy. The layout seems a bit haphazard but that is not significant. The campground managers are warm and friendly, willing to give tour advice as well. The Internet connection gets weaker and weaker as you move away from the main office. I had to move up to the laundry/bathroom area to be able to connect. Once connected it is still a bit slow but it connects. The bathrooms seem ideal in that the shower, toilet and sink are all together in a moderate sized private bathroom. There are eight unisex bathrooms in all. We never had a problem getting to use the showers. The only negative here is that they start out spotless but as campers use them they track in dirt, water splashes onto the floors and they stay wet unless each person cleans up after themselves. I can assure you that this does not happen. I would like to see locker mats on the floor outside of the shower so that you have a dry place to stand after your shower. Possibly a note should be posted inside to wipe up any dirt tracked in. That along with the mats would solve the problem. My husband and I loved this place and would definitely stay again. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Rate is with 15% Escapees discount. We stayed five nights. We enjoyed our stay at Fort Welikit and would stay again. The gravel/dirt road is a bit rough and many of the sites are not level, but in spite of that is is a pleasant campground. We were on site 22, a level pull-through site that was convenient to one of the laundry facilities. The campground is convenient to Custer State Park. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Some sites uneven and unlevel and you have to back uphill to get into them. Advertised wi-fi is very poor and on and off all the time. Water pressure not very good and cable tv is very fuzzy. Location is nice, but wouldn't recommend it unless you can find nothing else. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful campground in the Black Hills. The sites are in the trees so you do not feel on top of your neighbor. Rare to find a place where you have all your hook-ups and extras but still feel like you are camping in the woods. We were so busy we rarely used it, but our cable TV was clear. The owners had just updated the WiFi system the day we arrived and we had good reception even with our site toward the back of the park. Bathrooms were some of the best we have seen. We did not have any issues with water pressure, but we do not use excessive filtration which has in the past caused us issues in mountain areas not on high volume city water. We came for a campground and not a parking lot resort and were pleasantly surprised. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground is located in a beautiful pine forest on the edge of Custer, SD. The sites are fairly wide and the pull-through sites are level and long. The back-in sites, which we used in our 5th wheel, are a bit tight and a bit unlevel in some locations. The Internet is strong unless everyone is home in their campers using the signal. Water pressure at our site was low but sufficient. The office staff was pleasant and quite helpful. Bathrooms and laundry rooms are immaculate. The rate posted reflects the Good Sam's discount. We would definitely stay here again but be more specific with our site request ensuring a more level site. The campgrounds are very family-friendly. The large play area for children is located away from the camping area, ensuring a quiet surrounding. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice park, friendly staff. Family owned and operated ....They care and it shows! The Wi-Fi connection was hit or miss.....but the rest of the park made up for it. Beautiful wooded setting. I would definitely go back here again!! We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We used this park as our base while visiting Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Wind Cave Nat'l Park, Jewel Cave Nat'l Park and Devil's Tower Nat'l Park. The latter three being further away, but a nice drive. A nice treed park, very nice clean private bathrooms/showers and nice laundry. The site we were on did not have cable and the WiFi could only be accessed close to the office as one of their antennas were inoperable. It was quiet and clean. We would stay here again. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.
