Nice park located in Custer which is fairly central to many of the activities in the area. Park was nearly empty when we were there however if it full, there are some sites I wouldn't like to have as it is bit of an odd layout and lots and lots of trees that could prevent you from fully extending your awning or slides (those same trees provide lots of beauty and shade however!). Some sites are also aligned so that you could really get to know your neighbors since you share a yard area with them; firepits nearly side by side. With a nearly empty park we had our pick of sites. Strong cable signal, didn't use the Wi-Fi so I can't comment on it. Nice playground for kids; saw lots of deer and turkeys almost daily. Nice folks at check-in and they were always ready to help when needed. We would stay here again in the fall. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We are newbies with a new travel trailer and the hosts were EXTREMELY helpful. The campsite was easy to pull into and level. It included cable and the hosts even helped us with our tv hookup! All the facilities were clean and the laundry area had great machines. Great experience and we are looking forward to coming back. Thanks for making our first trip awesome! We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is a pleasant park in the woods, with very competent and friendly management. Our site was somewhat difficult to back into due to the trees, but it was a long and level site with excellent spacing between the parked motor homes. Due to the trees there is no satellite access, but there is a good cable setup. All of the hookups were modern and in good working order. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice park. All sites are in among the Jack pines, with dirt parking area. Some grass, but mostly pine needles and dirt. The wifi/internet was pretty useless. They had multiple access points so you got a good signal, but the internet connectivity was very poor (10% of the time) to non-existent (90%). The cable channels were only there maybe 50% of the time, but when they were there, they were solid. Other than the "missing" internet, we had a very nice 7 night stay. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed 3 nights in our 42ft Fifth Wheel. Our site was a difficult back in site but had great space and tree cover once we got in. The wifi was average and staff helpful. Playground fort was fun for my 4 year old and the laundry facilities were nice. I would stay again. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Very happy with this CG. Friendly staff, clean CG, close to all the activities we wanted. Site was almost level and just needed a leveling board. Only disappointment was how close other RV's are. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Don't try to get here on 87 from Mt Rushmore. Our GPS failed to warn us of a 9'6" tunnel on the road. The campground will tell you via email but we did not get it in time. Campground is great for Rushmore, Crazy Horse and all the sights in the area. We camped in Bike week and it was not crowded.

Great base camp for all the Black Hills sightseeing. 1 mile out of Custer, yet feels super country. Tons of stars at night! Deer and turkeys right in the campground. Fenced in dog park which isn't something I've seen at other campgrounds. Super simple and quiet campground. Well maintained. Sites aren't super close together. Veteran owned and operated. Will definitely visit again. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

*******IMPORTANT NOTE: If coming from the north on route 16, do NOT take the highway 87 turn off to Sylvan Lake, continue on highway 16 into the town of Custer then turn left to highway 89/Sylvan lake road. There are low/narrow tunnels on highway 87 that your rig will not fit through. DO NOT TRUST YOUR GPS!*******

This is a nice campground in the Black Hills area. Oddly enough, we had severe storms with hail for 3 days in a row when we stayed here. I was told that the Black Hills has pretty severe weather during the summer months very frequently. We sustained no damage. The campground has a lot of trees and several different loops. They were having severe problems with erosion, and they would bring in gravel daily and try to smooth out the roads which were very rough. They sell propane and have wifi. They have a dog park, which was small but very appreciated! The park is convenient to all area attractions and was full or close to it every night. They have old truck wheels that they allow you to use as fire rings which are a bit small and odd, but they do allow camp fires. We really enjoyed our stay here despite some drawbacks. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

I found this park conveniently located just outside of the city of Custer. Easy access to all that the Custer area has to offer. The park was well run, clean and family friendly. The cable and WiFi both were up and operational. I will return to this park. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Although the showers and restrooms were very clean, the park overall was just satisfactory. We went for walks with the dogs and saw unclean sites where permanents stayed that just makes the place look dirty, but in the transient section it was OK. Our RV parking site was very unlevel, and having to back into it was a nightmare, really surprised I didn't damage RV due to the very inclined (uphill) backing in. Once settled in it was nice, but not very comfortable. No pavement anywhere, just rock roads. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

City of Custer full of things to do and good places ti dine. The 109 mile trail (Michelson) was great. We walked the trail both ways from a couple of days at least 7 miles. Also be aware most of the town is down on Wednesdays. Very peaceful place, loved Custer.

A fun little park very close to Custer and most Black Hills attractions. Seemed to have more shade than many of the other RV parks in the area, and individual sites had plenty of room. Owners and staff were very helpful and friendly. Some of the sites were a bit tricky to back into but not unmanageable. Very dog friendly but be sure to have Rover on a leash at night as plenty of deer come into the campground. Bathrooms and laundry were clean and had plenty of counter space. We enjoyed our stay and would come back again if we're in the area. We camped at Fort Welikit Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.
