Good COE park for folks who want to fish. They have good boat ramps and boats can be tied up on shore if desired. All campsites are big and allow plenty of space between you and your neighbors. Park staff is excellent. Rangers drive through the campground several times a day and are always available to answer questions and assist in any way they can. We camped at Big Bend Dam- Lake Sharpe in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

This is called the Left Tailrace Campground at the COE Big Bend Dam. It was closed for over a year due to damage by the Missouri River Flood in 2011. The sites are level and the pull-throughs are over 60'. Lots of shade trees. Because it is not back on the reservation system, and was late in opening this year because of repair delays, it is not very busy. The restrooms are NOT clean and don't look like they get any regular cleaning. The campground is mowed, but no attention to detail like trimming. Fair Verizon signal. Prices for COE campgrounds have gone up in general but with Golden Age it was $9 per night. There are scattered water faucets and the dump station is about a 1/4 mile down the road. We camped at Big Bend Dam- Lake Sharpe in a Motorhome.Undo

I love this campground. We are from Sioux Falls, SD and we come back here every year in May. It is quiet and the fishing is great. While we are there the bathrooms are cleaned everyday. The water in the showers is always warm. The sites are very clean and there are a lot of things for kids to do. There are very few bugs in May. We have been coming to this campground for the last 6 years and we will keep coming back probably for the rest of lives. I have been to several campgrounds in SD, and this campground is by far my favorite. We camped at Big Bend Dam- Lake Sharpe in a Tent.Undo

The review of May 2008 provides a good description of this campground although I rate it a point higher. It appears that routine cleaning and maintenance have been neglected. The bathrooms were filthy and trash needs to be picked up on the grounds. Otherwise, it is a typical Army Corps of Engineers park. The rate quoted was with the 50% Senior Pass discount. We camped at Big Bend Dam- Lake Sharpe in a Fifth Wheel.Undo

This is a Corps of Engineer Recreation site. The sites are wide and paved with good shade. Its located just below the Big Bend Dam near Fort Thompson. Fishing is available above the dam in Lake Sharpe and below the dam in Lake Francis Case. Excellent walleye and small mouth bass fishing. The campground is fine with playground equipment for kids. A boat ramp is available both up and down stream. The bathrooms were Terrible with a capital T. You will catch a disease in these bathrooms. No water hookup at each site but there are valves throughout the park. No sewer, but there is a dump about 1/2 mile away on the dam service road. Grass is well maintained. If you go fishing, and you should, be careful when the wind comes up. The lake gets very treacherous and waves could swamp you. The campground is located on federal property and the area is located in the Crow Creek and Lower Brule Indian Reservations. Fort Thompson is located 2 miles away. They have one fuel station with reasonably priced fuel and a small grocery and live bait. There is also a nice Casino and motel in town. We camped at Big Bend Dam- Lake Sharpe in a Fifth Wheel.Undo
