Very large park with beautiful scenery. Our site was a large pull thru with lots of grass between sites. Gravel pads but our spot was level did see some that might not be as level. Staff very helpful and park was close to all the Black Hill sites. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Cannot say enough good things about this park. Beautifully kept grounds and the staff is helpful and pleasant. Loads of shaded sites. WiFi was hit and miss like most parks. Our 4G worked. DirecTV signal was good once we got it tuned in. Centrally located to all the sights. Great for kids. They sell firewood but get it early as they do run out. First class all the way. We are already planning a return trip. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Ride the 1880 train to keystone and layover. It's easier that driving up and parking, but make reservations!

Very large and spread out park, many area choices to meet either tent or big rig camping needs. Sites were mostly level, with picnic tables and fire rings. All in all, very peaceful, with nice views of the surrounding hills/bluffs and forest. Conveniently situated for day trips to Deadwood, Custer SP and NP, Mount Rushmore and Needles highway (a must see). Swimming pool was centrally located and well maintained. Laundry and shower facilities were clean and well taken care of. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Tent Trailer.

Nice treed park with lots of space to roam. Several loops of sights most with full hookup. Our loop did not have a shower/bath facility so had to use the one about 1/4 mile away. Could have used my trailer, but needed the exercise. Large spaces that were gravel/dirt. Roads were paved, so no real dust issues with vehicle travel, but it rained the entire time we were here and our spot got quite muddy on the edges off the gravel the trailer was parked on. Some sights had water everywhere. Staff was friendly, but price seemed high. Saw some other campgrounds in the area and this was by far the nicest. We would stay here again. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

9 miles to Mt. Rushmore, 3 miles to Hill City. Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Hill City Railroad Museum, some nice winery's, Biking and hiking

Very spread out with long gravel sites. Laundry room had plenty of machines and looked very clean. The WiFi did not work well. The location was convenient to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. We stayed 3 nights and would stay again. We enjoyed seeing deer near the camp at night. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in the "Island" section. This campground is very large, so view a map prior to requesting an area. Our site had nice sun, there are plenty of sites with trees. There is not a rest room in the area, needed to walk to the Ranch Camp for showers and laundry (if you need them). The camp is located with access to the Mickelson Bike Trail. Staff is very friendly. The site was large enough for privacy and quiet. There is a pool/hot tub and game room for the kids. This is a great location just outside of Hill City and close enough to Crazy Horse and Rushmore. We also saw plenty of wildlife. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

One of the nicest we have ever stayed in. As others said unusually large spaces between sites with grass. Abundance of open area with grass also. Very quiet and close to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Office people very helpful and nice. Definitely would recommend to anyone. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Very large park with lots of open space between camping areas. Our space was level but pretty close to neighbor. No shade at our spot. Well stocked gift shop and store. WiFi did not work well at all. Would stay there again. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

This "destination" resort is awesome. The mountain resort setting is very relaxing. The friendly staff and clean facilities were great. You can have a site way away from the facilities in the forest or in the main area. All was wonderful, quiet, very family orientated. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

This is one of our favorites. The campground is diverse and has 5 different camping areas. There are less than 200 sites and there are some very nice views from many of them. There is a lot of green space and it is perfect for long walks with your dog. We have a 45' coach and find that Lower Ranch Camp and Line Camp work well for us. The only challenge is procuring a site without advance reservations as this park is very popular in season. So call as far ahead as you can, particularly if you want a multi-day stay. We called with only a day's notice and had to spend one night at the Black Hills KOA before we could check in for two nights at the Rafter J. That one night at the KOA made us appreciate the Rafter J even more than ever before! We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

The best park in the area! Having stayed here many years ago, decided to return. It didn't disappoint. There are 5 different areas to choose from for your camping needs. We staying in the Upper Ranch Camp area, in the trees. Bathhouse specific to that area. Pull- through site, did need to do some leveling, but nothing overly extreme. The only shortcoming was the bathhouse itself. A bit run down and in need of a better cleaning. There were only 2 toilet stalls and 3 shower stalls for an area that was constantly busy from campers coming and going. The mix there was of motorhomes, trailers, and tents, so not everyone was using their own on-board facilities. Nice open meadow areas between the different camping areas. Office staff was friendly and efficient. Swimming pool by the office with extra parking for the pool area. Pancake breakfast in the mornings from 8-11 AM, reasonably priced...and delicious! Rafter J is convenient to just about everything one could possibly want to see in the central Black Hills area -- close to Hill City and Custer City, and convenient to Mount Rushmore and the Needles Highway, as well as Custer State Park. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

This was a very nice park. Most notable is the room between spaces. We stayed in Line Camp and there was easily room for another rig between each site. I have never seen this much space before. The views within the park are incredible as is the views of the surrounding mountains. The park is located in close proximity to most of the Black Hills attractions. The only thing that would be nice to add would be a fenced dog run. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

We stayed here after my father recommended it and we were not disappointed. This is a very large campground, and has a lot of open space between the different sections. We have young children and stayed at the Base Camp; the playground was large, pool area clean, and we had good Wi-Fi signal. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
