This park has a very good location in Hill City, You can walk to gas, Hike and Bike Trail, Train Museum. Grocery is about a mile away. Spots were level with gravel roads and pads, had picnic table and fire ring. Quiet at night. Good playground for kids, Basketball court. Some spots are close together, others are not. Small brook runs through the park. Staff was pleasant and helpful, Restrooms were exceptional clean while we were there but not many people were using them. Location is convenient for Rushmore, Custer State Park, Lead, Deadwood, Rapid City, Spearfish canyon, Needles hiway. All can be experienced as day or half day trips. Good restaurant in town at the old hotel. Local grocery is not big but has all the essentials covered. We camped at Trailside Park Resort in a Travel Trailer.

We were last here in 2012 when the park first opened. All RV sites are back-ins with gravel pads and FHU with cable TV. We did not bother with the cable since our site was satellite TV friendly. The Wi-Fi worked well enough for our minimal (e-mail and web surfing) needs. Since our previous visit they have added 9 cabins and a small playground but there is nothing (no pool) else for families. I did not see any recycling. The bathrooms are adequate for a park this size but there is no laundry facility. The high cost lowers my rating. We camped at Trailside Park Resort in a Motorhome.

just off 385 (but road noise is not bad at night). sights are decent sized but they do pack them in and it gets tight in the park. Some sites back up to the creek and as advertised they are right on the rail trail with easy access to Hill City (1/2 mile away). Utilities worked well and was able to get Satellite. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. People drive too fast through park and kick up a lot of dust. they do provide a nice patio furniture set for each site. Wi-fi worked well and cell reception is excellent. We camped at Trailside Park Resort in a Motorhome.

Lucky for us they had a spot available when we called one day before. The spots are back in angled so it appears they are roomier. There was a nice dirt pathway if you wanted to ride your bike or walk your dog. Did not get good wifi, but satellite and verizon worked out. Staff was friendly, easy navigating into spot. Campground is small, right off road, but noise quieted down at night. We did think it was rather expensive for what you get, but seemed all CGs in area are about that price. We camped at Trailside Park Resort in a Motorhome.

Park was nice but nothing special. Is in nice location to access many sites. No laundry on site but is satisfactory laundromat just a short walk along Mickleson Trail. Priced too high for amenities but think all in area are pricey. Very poor internet for relatively small park. We camped at Trailside Park Resort in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We are here in the off season. Web site says open all year. Kinda true. When ask, I was told we are open all year for cabins. We will be turning the RV water off in a few days. Friendly staff, they mowed some Sunday afternoon, but the trash can was running over for a few days. Looks like there are better places in the area, but most are closed or closing soon. Nice stream right behind the spaces. Fishing and gold panning available in the office with a deposit. 50 amp is strong. 3 wifi locations, but still weak and intermittent, and only a few campers here. Good cable. Great bike/ walking trail next to park. We camped at Trailside Park Resort in a Motorhome.

Great campground! Nightly rate based on monthly rate, includes electricity. Very friendly staff will go far to make your stay pleasant. With a premier bicycle trail adjacent to the campground and all other Black Hills attraction nearby, this is a great location for all your regional sightseeing. Very simple CG. A bit pricey for no amenities. Public laundry about ½ block away. Staff friendly and very laid-back. Roomy with grass between gravel sites. All 50 amp FHU. Didn't check restrooms/showers. Route US-16 about 100 feet away but noise wasn't all that bad. Only 12 miles to Mt. Rushmore National Monument. We camped at Trailside Park Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Mt. Rushmore National Monument 12 miles; $11 parking fee, no entrance fee. Hill City is a quaint village, 1 grocery store, 2 gas stations (both w/diesel). Railroad museum is one room of memorabilia with a model railroad ($6/person). Train rides available ($28/person). Ate at the Mangy Moose saloon. Smothered burrito was good, house margaritas pretty good.

Overall Rating:

This is a brand new RV park on the south end of Hill City. It is open, but not everything is completely finished. They still have some work to do on some of the RV sites, are currently working on the landscaping around the main building, and are still building cabins. The 34 sites I listed above is just for the projected number of RV sites. I do not know the total number of cabins. We spent one weekday night here. All RV sites are back-ins set on 10' wide gravel pads. Some are not big enough for large RVs. All are FHU with cable and free WI-FI. I did not hook up to the cable and the WI-FI worked well for us. That may be because we were the only RV customers in the park. All sites appear to be satellite friendly. The park roads are gravel and the site pads are raised causing a safety hazard for folks stepping out of their RVs onto a sloped surface. There is nothing (no pool or playground) for kids. All the sewer pipes are about 10" above the ground creating hookup and dumping headaches. The park is right off US385 and the traffic noise is steady and loud until dark. It picks up again first thing in the morning. Most of the town's attractions (shops, restaurants, museum, 1880 Train, etc.) are within a mile or so of the park. I thought the rate was high, and there are none of the usual discounts (GS, AAA, etc.). Even if they fix some of the problems (sewer height, for example), I don't think I would rate this park much higher because of the cost and noise issues. We camped at Trailside Park Resort in a Motorhome.
