7 Parks near Mitchell, South Dakota
Jul 2016 - $30.00
A quiet simple stop on the road. The wifi only works near the office. The office staff is nice, but doesn't understand RVs. She attempted to put us into a spot that was far too short and admitted she didn't know we would have had to disconnect to fit.
She quickly gave us a spot that would work. - wetterwashington
Jul 2016 - $34.00
Small campground behind a motel. Staff were nice and helpful. Picnic table at our site, some sites had a fire ring. Down side is a $5 +tax to use the pool, at this site should be included. - roaming around
Jun 2016 - $30.00
Nice quiet, little no-frills campground tucked in behind the Day's Inn Hotel.
Very flat, mostly grass sites. No shade. Wifi is iffy at the spots furthest away from the office, but there is a table and chairs and they do not care if you sit in the office and surf.
It is easy on and off Hwy 90, and pretty quiet with the hotel blocking most of the road noise.
There is a $5 charge for campers to use the pool/waterpark. - Impkitti
Jul 2016 - $40.00
This was a difficult one to find as GPS and campground signage were not "in sync." Once that was noticed the signage ruled! Campground sits behind the Super 8. There had been A LOT of rain in the area and interior roads were saturated. Birds loved the puddles tho! There appeared to be many long-term/seasonal campsites that could have used a little "cleaning up," but over all not too disgusting. Campground was off the interstate and on a four lane highway. Did not notice too much traffic noise. - MamaLyn
Jul 2016 - $40.00
This has been our Mitchel stop for years. At Passport America rates, this has been an excellent value for a very good park. Imagine our surprise when we got here and found out that they no longer honor PPA. Their website (and a review here from last month) say that PPA is still honored. As usual, we had a fairly level, gravel, pull through, FHU site. We had cable and internet that was not reliable in the evening when everybody starts using bandwith eating features like skype and netflix. Thanks, selfish hogs. The laundry is good, but the bathrooms and showers are old and inadequate. There is no recycling. The park shares a small outdoor pool with the motel. - Jerry S
Jun 2016 - $30.00
Nice campground behind motel. Nice friendly staff. Easy access from interstate. Shaded sites. Restaurant within walking distance. Will stay here again if in area. We camped here in a motorhome. - Diplomat 07
Jul 2016 - $35.00
This is a municipal campground with roads, while easy to navigate, can be a bit tight with a few low hanging branches which high-profile rigs need to watch. Surprisingly quiet over the July 4th weekend. Manager extremely nice! - dandd
Jul 2015 - $30.00
We had to move the picnic table just to be able to back into our site. There were numerous tents camping all together just across from our site and the quiet hours were not enforced. When a fifth wheel parked beside us his slides were extremely close to ours. We would not stay here again. - leclay
Jun 2015 - $20.00
We were here for a one nighter. We were able to remain hooked up in the long pull thru. The site was level and shaded with some grassy area and a picnic table. We used the laundry room which was clean and well priced. There was adequate cable tv which was good because there are many trees which would block our satellite. The park is directly behind a motel and so you have too look carefully to find the drive in. - shovelguy
Jul 2016 - $35.00
Park was old, but very clean. Staff were exceedingly nice and easy to deal with. Lots of long term residents. - redhedmedic
Apr 2016 - $23.00
Lovely treed park, could see spending more than one night here.
Things just opening for the season (pool etc), park still fairly busy for a Friday night.
Our site was perfect; level, wide and private. - Our-Wandering-Casa
Jun 2015 - $18.00
The staff were very friendly. The trees blocked the highway noise which was nice. Water wasn't working, but they didn't charge for it. There were lots of families and a very cold pool. There were quite a few mosquitoes and lots of smoke from surrounding campsites. Sites were a bit close to each other. - barkingbear
Jul 2016 - $34.00
We only stayed the one night as they had a rodeo in town. They were accommodating when I called to fit our rig, 39' rig. Nothing special, friendly enough. I think they could do better with PR. - eagle on the move
Jul 2016 - $45.00
The sites were very tight and the place seemed like it could use some updating. We requested to be next to another camper in our group in the reservation and they made no attempt to satisfy the request (seemed a bit lazy). The place had a foul odor, not sure what it was from but smelled like sewer. I would not stay here again. - Campingwi
Jul 2016 - $42.00
We aren't KOA kampers. We tried over the years but aside from a few times, we've never left feeling good. This was no exception. We booked online and some of the site options said they didn't fit our rig (TT and truck) which didn't make sense since the description of those sites was big enough. We assumed perhaps they were already booked. We booked a pull-thru, W/E. The site was woefully too short and KOA-tiny. The worker who led us to our site just shrugged and said sorry. There were long enough sites open and still were the next morning, too.
Which leads me to my next KOA experience - I feel that way too often the workers are anything but excited about their jobs. I don't get it and I don't like it. Be happy to see us, try to accommodate us better.
There are sites here that are big, spacious, nicely situated. We didn't get one of those. All we wanted, and thought we booked, was a site long enough for our TT and truck to be left hooked up - not possible.
The bathrooms were fine, but dated and slightly musty. Typical KOA. The mini-golf is beat up and old looking, the pool is tiny. The fire pit was stuck in the tiniest strip of grass between ours and the next camper. We kept our fingers crossed that the people next to us wouldn't use there fire pit as it was almost under our slide out. Picnic table useable but old.
Location is nice and easy access, but there are campgrounds closer to Mitchell and the attractions than this one.
I don't want to say don't camp here, just don't expect a whole bunch. - MNJessieJ
Jul 2016 - $29.00
Staff was friendly and check in was easy. We were led to our site. The campground roads were easy to navigate (with a 38 ft motorhome pulling a Jeep). This campground has lots of well shaded sites that are reasonably spaced. Some sites only have 30 amp service, so when making a reservation be sure to request 50 amp if you need it. The Wi-Fi was too slow to be of any use. Our site recommendation would be site #11. If you can get it, you won't have another camping unit to your right, just a nice grassy area. - Thor MC
Jun 2016 - $31.00
The owners have owned this campground for YEARS and it shows in a good way. They know what they are doing and get people checked in and escorted to their sites with minimal fuss. We were given a very long pull-through with easy-in and easy-out.
While there is not a fenced dog area, there is a LOT of room to walk the dogs.
The laundry facilities are clean and well-maintained. $1.25 to wash and $1 to dry (45 min).
We would return. The campground is 5 miles west of Mitchell, SD and just off the interstate. We were not bothered by road noise. - User3146
Jun 2016 - $29.00
Very nice and very shady RV park, lots of trees!!! This was an absolute plus because it was so hot and relatively humid during our stay. The owner are so nice and were even helpful in mapping out the best route to our next stops in the Badlands and the Black Hills. Very pet friendly too. Our stop here was to visit the Corn Palace and other are sights. We would stay here again. - Corona-travels
Jul 2016 - $20.00
We recently stayed 2 nights on a weekend. All the sites are gravel with grass between sites, all pull thrus with either 30 or 50 amp and full hook ups. Each site has a tree that provides some shade. Lots of space between sites. Internal roads were easy to navigate. It's right off the interstate but noise was minimal. Self check-in is in the laundry room next to the pool. We paid the Passport America rate of $20 per night, then picked our site. They aren't assigned. The laundry room looked clean, the bathhouse did not. We didnt use the facilities. It was a hot weekend, the park was packed and so was the pool. There are a few permanent rigs in one row but nothing unsightly. Free WiFi but weak the further away you are from the laundry room. No playground, no off leash dog park, no cable tv. It's a good place to stop for a day or two. Very convenient to interstate. We'd stay here again. - Flippitti
Jul 2016 - $18.00
A good overnight stop. Sites are all pullthru and level. Self registering by putting money or check in a locked box. Clean 24hour laundry but only 2 washers and 2 dryers. $1.50 wash. $1 dry. A nothing special campground that has numerous permanent residents. A small clean pool. Owner is very friendly. I did not use but I checked out the bathroom/shower house. Smelled terrible. Dirty. Very little privacy at both the toilets and showers. No doors only plastic curtains. I would stop here again if I was passing thru. I was in a motorhome. - camper19709
Jul 2016 - $20.00
The good: Close to interstate and only $20 with Passport America.
The bad: Although we felt safe, the park is kind of trashy looking with many permanent trailers. There is a pool, but it was overrun by families and kids that live here, so not a place to relax after a long day of traveling. The biggest problem was the 50 amp power pedestal. The readings in our coach showed a large voltage imbalance between the 2 lines. We mention it in this review since it can be an indication of an open neutral or bad wiring, so just be aware of the potential for problems.
Despite the low price, we would not stay here again. - DawnsDad
