Located on the south side of town next to the baseball field and community pool. It's a little hard to find because the sign is hidden by a small grove of trees. It basically rides the edge of a dirt parking lot that backs up against a baseball field. This campground has 3 grassy spaces each with an 30-amp electrical hookup and picnic table. It's free to stay, but there is a 3 day limit. Donations are accepted at an iron ranger, but are not solicited.
There is a threaded water pump available near the entrance to the parking area with good tasting water that needs only minor filtration. There is a small, well-lit building that includes a couple of security cameras, a bathroom, and a soda machine, as well as a covered picnic pavilion. The dump station for the park is located just to the right of the building. It's in good working order and provides non-potable water to rinse your gear.
The cell signal here is fantastic. We got 3-4 bars of Verizon LTE, 4 bars of Verizon 3G, and 5 bars of AT&T 4G. Data worked great without any interruptions and streaming video was no problem at all for the entire stay.
There were a lot of mosquitos and flies, both of which bite, so staying out past dark isn't recommended. On the upside, the grass was well kept, the grounds were clean, and the park is well lit at night without being too bright to sleep. At the back of the lot, there's a cute bridge that crosses the channel and leads to the community pool, a very large playground, volleyball courts, a second baseball field, and disc golf.
We would stay here again. - technogypsies

South Whitlock Resort (SWR) features a convenience store with groceries, licenses, beer, ice, gas, bait, tackle, etc. SWR has a variety of lodging options to accommodate just about everyone. Besides the campground, they also have a small motel, cabins and trailers for rent. See their website for info. They have an onsite boat ramp on Lake Oahe. Fishing guide services are also available at SWR. We booked with Curtis Lagan Guiding, see his website for info. The couple who own/run the place are very friendly. He is more than willing to bend your ear awhile if time permits. There are shower/restroom buildings and laundry facilities. Showers were clean. There was no separate dressing room in each shower, also no hooks or shelves in the shower stall but the door was far enough back you could hang your clothes over it and they didn't get wet. SWR's water comes from an artesian well instead of rural water, so has what I call a mineral/iron ore smell/taste to it. There are about 70 RV sites. Our site #2 with W/E/S was on the eastside of the resort facing the gravel road which runs between SWR and a restaurant across the road. Not much traffic on road besides campers & local residents. Kiddie-corner across intersection from our site was a pasture with cows and calfs grazing. Our site was not real level. Sites are grass so if it rains a lot could get mushy. Water pressure was good. Most peoples cell phones seemed to work OK. There was Wi-Fi but the signal strength was not always reliable. Site widths were a little tight as most campers also had a vehicle and a boat to fit on their site. Sites on rows further to the west seem to have more room to spread out. There are mature native cedar windbreaks planted to the west of each row. One evening a sudden rainstorm blew in from the west with gusty 60/70 MPH microburst winds. Dust was blowing so hard at times you couldn't see across the gravel road to our south. Luckily the 3 rows of thick cedars to our west protected our RVs from most of the wind. We told them we were very thankful to whoever planted those trees decades ago. I would stay here again. - OTR-again

Shore Services: 50amp, Sewer good, Water good - Wi-Fi: none - AT&T Cell Phone: No Signal - Sprint Air Card: poor - Verizon Air Card: Good - Cable: no - Site Size: plenty of length on the west sites - Site Closeness: lot of room between sites - Roads: Gravel - Restrooms: Old but clean -Directv Satellite: clear if out near the road - Discounts: none - Payment: Credit Card - Additional Charges: none other than tax - Additional Remarks: This is a nice park. We stayed on the west side which had plenty of room and 50amp service. All services are to the rear of the site. I believe all the sites are back in but there is plenty of room. We tried to go to West Whitlock which is nice but has only Electricity at the sites, no water except at the entrance to the campground. There is a restaurant across the street. Food is good but expensive for what they serve. I would stay here again. - TXBobcat
Sep 2016 - $21.00
We stayed at Bob's Resort for two weeks during the Sturgis, SD Rally. Although many 'Seasonal' Campers had their rigs in place, the campground remained mostly deserted during our stay. Each campsite in the facility was absolutely huge. Our pull through site could have easily fit two of our sized rigs. The staff maintained the grounds weekly and cleaned the showers and restrooms twice each day - whether needed or not. Located a stones throw from the Missouri River, we enjoyed a relaxing time throughout our two weeks - spending much of our time fishing underneath the Route 212 Bridge for Small Mouth Bass. The on-site Steak House at Bob's Resort provided excellent meals at a reasonable price with wonderful views of the Missouri River. We plan to visit Bob's again next summer when we return to the area. - Todd and Heather
Aug 2014 - $23.00
Basic park sitting above Lake Oahe (Missouri River). Off the beaten track and caters to fishermen and hunters (in season). We ate at the restaurant and it was expensive and the food just OK. But, it's the only restaurant around for miles. Restrooms and laundry were spic and span! We used both. We stopped here to kill time before going to western South Dakota so the Sturgis rally would get done. We went exploring all over the area and really enjoyed ourselves. West Whitlock Recreation Area was really nice. - flamingo1813
Sep 2013 - $25.00
Lovely views of the Missouri River. Nice restaurant on site. Would be nice to have cable TV, but the owners are doing a lot to make this a real nice park. We were not there during prime fishing days, but we had a great overnight. - jim n pen
Oct 2017 - $14.00
We stayed in late October. No other campers onsite. Nice wind break around the inland sites which was much needed at this time of year. We found one site we could angle in with tow attached. Some of the waterfront sites would have worked but too windy. - Sunny Weathers
Jul 2017 - $19.00
There are lots of activities to participate in at this campground. It's a really good spot for families with children. We were here just before July 4th and the place was packed. Even though the sites are large, the sites on the inner circle feel like they are too close together. We stayed here in 2013 in a site on the outside and liked it much better. Proximity to Pierre is a plus here. We were able to shop, go out to dinner and do laundry in town. Verizon MiFi, Dish and AT&T cell phone worked great. We will stay here again when stopping in Pierre. - Bobbi1948
Aug 2011 - $18.00
We stayed in Campground #3 because everything else was flooded this year. There were only 20 sites open when we visited. The park showed water damage in a lot of areas and Campground 1 & 2 were not open at all. There are nice trees for shade, plenty of room between sites, paved roads and sites, nearly all sites would accommodate large rigs. As with most of the parks we found in the state, there is electricity at the site, a dump station with potable water and water spigots in the camp area. Restrooms were clean, host very accommodating. We enjoyed our stay. We camped in a 5th wheel. - User2176
Jul 2008 - $21.00
This is no longer a COE campground but part of South Dakota State Parks. Be careful with low trees and soft asphalt on the sites. We won't be back here at this price when all you get is electric. - joe4golf
