Friendly campground. The staff works hard to keep things working smooth. We stayed during the July 4th holiday and the campground got rather full. There are 202 sites but this campground really squeezes 'em in. My slideout was about 5 feet from my neighbor’s slideout. After setting up, I had to park my truck on a diagonal to make it fit. The property shares space with a motel (same owners). We didn’t use the pool, but it was very clean. The laundry rooms were clean, as were the rest rooms. The cable TV is $3 extra per day. As soon as I hooked up, I saw that most channels had “snowy” pictures. For the next 24 hours I worked with the staff to resolve it, but finally asked for a refund, which was happily given. Internet service was usual for a campground setting. Great in the early morning or late at night but hard to get at other times. On the entrance side of my trailer there was a muddy puddle in the grass, which seems to be a water line leak under the soil. After I reported this, the staff filled it with stone so that I would not step in the mud, but it was still a patch of wet stone for the entire visit. This, to me is very bothersome. Such things as that need to be repaired. I’m hoping that it was a fresh water line and not sewage. Since there are so many campgrounds in the area, we would not stay here again. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Travel Trailer.
This is our second stay. Tight turns. Not a fan of shared patio nor shared fire rings in very close proximity to the rig. Sites too close together. Great location and other amenities great. No view. Noisy early in the mornings. Maybe they need an area for those who don't care to be in close proximity to small children and campfires. Would not stay again. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Motorhome.
Second stay here (2009, 2014). Older park but well maintained. Good location just out of the city. Many sites share their outside areas. A little tight to get into some sites but workers do assist to get you parked. Many attractions are close by: Bear Country, Reptile attraction and a chuckwagon dinner. Mount Rushmore is about 22 miles away. Friendly owners and workers. All very helpful. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Motorhome.
Sites are absurdly small. Many (not all) sites have this shared patio concept, which would be cool if you were traveling with others. Else, it's very awkward. This campground seems old and tired. The Wi-Fi exists, but coverage is weak and throughput was generally quite bad. We should have heeded the previous reviews and stayed elsewhere. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Motorhome.
Very old. Charge for TV cable, but very bad quality. Wi-Fi is nill at best goes down about every 10 minutes. Grounds are full of dog poo, no one picks up after their dogs (park has no policy at all no bags outlets or drops). Very small parking spaces NOT BIG RIG FRIENDLY! Even though they state that, muddy sites and path ways (too small to be roads). Over all it just run down park and needs a major redo. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Motorhome.
This is a large, older RV park with level gravel driveways. If you get there early you can pull thru sites behind yours and into yours. The overall driveway length is about 35 ft and when we were there, there were many Class A units. A number seemed to be seasonal.
As mentioned by an earlier visitor, there are covered picnic shelters with two tables between sites, with both families expected to share the same space and the same fire pit. This can be inconvenient - we did not have anyone sharing ours. Services were good as was the WiFi and the laundry. Its a reasonably priced place for a short stopover. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Motorhome.
This park is in an excellent location for Mt Rushmore and close enough to Rapid City for supplies and restaurants. Almost half of the park seems to be live ins. Roads are gravel and very narrow. We have watched big rigs trying to maneuver in and out with much difficulty and the park is not busy right now. Many sites are aligned so that your front door opens to a shared covered patio and 2 picnic tables side by side that are shared with your neighbor, which could be awkward if both parties tried to BBQ and eat outside at the same time. Restrooms all need to be repaired and updated. They were not kept clean while we were there. Laundry room had a washer full of water that wasn't repaired while we were there and 3 dryers were out of order but not marked. Laundry room was not kept clean. Wi-fi was good. Overall, we would not stay here again as there are many other RV parks in this area. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Travel Trailer.
We asked for a pull through site so we did not have to unhook the car, but no sites along enough for this request (which we found out after we had paid). 1/5 = site quality: very small sites (not able to open our awning), barely able to open all slides. We had to unhook car, level site 1/5 = facilities: did not use toilets nor showers, all building looking a little tired 1/5 = amenities: only 30 amp, so-so wifi 2/5 = location: very busy road, could hear traffic, south of town 1/5 = pet friendliness: no dedicated dog area, only gravel interior roadway to walk dogs on We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Motorhome.
Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $24.00
Price reflects site with all utilities except water, still early in the season and frozen pipes are a consideration. All sites have not been restored for the camping season. This is a well seasoned park and was a real go-to place when younger. Designed for smaller rigs but definitely doable for larger ones. Very friendly and accommodating staff. We would have no problem staying here again even with many other RV parks in the area. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Motorhome.
Date of Stay: October, 2013 - $32.00
Low rating is due to overall up keep of the park. I realize this was out of season and after the snow storm. The laundry room was nasty, vents had not been cleaned out, not dusted and overall lack of cleanliness. The bathrooms had several stalls and showers out of service. Walls in stalls have not been wiped down. Spaces are very tight, there were long term people right up front that looked liked yard sales. Cable is an extra fee. I felt that with the off season and overall cleanliness of park the rate was too high. Only stayed so I could get my drivers license. Would not stay here again. If this park was full it would be extremely difficult to get in/out. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $10.00
We were here for almost 2 weeks. The manager and work campers were all really friendly and very helpful. We ended up staying a week longer than planned due to needing a repair service. They were great about letting us move our food into the cooler in the office / gift shop while the fridge was being repaired. Our rate reflected the "friend and family" rate that the work campers could offer to friends. This is a nice, older park with lots of trees. Nice covered picnic tables between each site. Several other reviews mentioned issues with the trees. It's a little tight to maneuver with a large rig, but definitely do-able. I would not want to be here (or anywhere in the Black Hills ) during Sturgis Rally, but while we were here we didn't see any issues with people having trouble getting into or out of their sites. Again, the work campers were great at guiding people in and providing advice and help. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
These nice folks took us in at the last minute when we were turned out by another campground. This is an older property, laid out before the day of the big rigs, with some conventional pull-through sites and many side-by-side setups which are very, very difficult in which to park a big fifth wheel or motor home. Roads are rough and sites are level gravel. Laundry room was excellent, as is the Wi-Fi. Verizon coverage was good, but not T-Mobile. Staff is very helpful. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed in this RV park for a week and were very happy with our stay. The sites are close, but we have a 40 ft. fifth wheel with 3 slides and they accommodated us nicely. Our site was next to the main road entering the campground and we had a covered picnic table. Their WI-FI is very slow most of the time, but considering that the park is surrounded by the Black Hills is a big part of the reason. They have a very nicely stocked store/office and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Cable TV is available for $14 a week and we had very good reception. Amenities include a swimming pool, basket ball courts, playground and a game room. Their laundry facility is okay, but July is the hottest month and it is not air conditioned. The door was propped open and there were a ton of flies inside, so we were not able to stay inside while doing our wash. There are a couple of benches outside the building. Inside the store/office is a small pub with a couple of slot machines. We would stay in this park again. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
They advertise this as a big rig campground, but it is NOT. We saw three motorhomes and two fifth wheels get damaged while they were trying to get into their sites. Did I say this was a tight campground: very, very tight. It is NOT a big rig campground. The staff didn't know much about the area, but were courteous. There is absolutely no security. One night after ten, there were unruly people in the campground; going between rigs trying to open the doors to vehicles, drinking beer, and looking inside rigs. This was between 10 and midnight; campers could not get in touch with anyone in the office, so the sheriff was called: twice, before order was restored. Once you were in your site, the sites were level, but usually you could not open awnings or sometimes doors because of either a telephone pole or cabana in the way. Did I say the sites were tight? The laundry was clean and usable, albeit, many flies inside. Voltage was low on one leg on our 50 amp site. We will not be back. We camped at Happy Holiday Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
