Great park with lots of amenities especially for kids. 2 dog parks. One side is non dog, but plenty of room to walk dog. Security drives around. Quiet location by working ranch. Beautiful setting. Easy access to all Black Hills attractions. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.
Mt Rushmore, Custer state park, Crazy Horse. Drive Needles Hwy and Iron Mtn Rd in tow car only! Hill city, Custer and Keystone good for shopping. Most major stores in Rapid City. Deadwood and Sturgis close. Camping World west of Rapid City off I-90.

First a disclaimer...we really love and enjoy public parks (state, county, city, federal, BLM) and almost always stay at those when we can. We're between visiting a couple of great SD state parks so decided to stay someplace with full hookups, so we could do laundry. Hart Ranch was on the way, so we decided to try it. They have a deal, where if you sit through a short sales presentation, you can stay 3 nights for $95. Not cheap, but not bad. Short presentation done then off to our site. A corner lot which sounded great, but on arriving at the site (99), first problem...very short for our 43' coach and little to no room for tow parking. Don't even think about hanging the rear end of the RV over the grass!! Very small yard on passenger side with many close neighbors, but rear yard is pretty open. Tons of rules about what you can, and cannot do. Lots of traffic including cars, motorcycles, walkers, bicycles, kiddy train, scooters, golf carts, RVs, and ATVs. Not at all relaxing or quiet. We seriously do not understand the appeal of this place, except for location. Most city subdivisions have more space, less traffic, and more quiet. On the plus side? Lots to do in the area, quiet at night, pretty location, some huge dog runs, wide concrete sites, and no wood fires. We never say never, but have zero desire to stay here again. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.
If you enjoy beer and/or pizza, for sure visit the Independent Ale House. Not the best pizza we've ever had, but very, very good. 40+ great beers on tap.

We stayed here for a couple nights as guests of friends who are members and our cost per night reflects that. The park is beautiful and has literally any activity you could ever wish for. The pool is magnificent. It has doggie parks. It has everything, even its own fuel station right in the park. Our utilities were as we expected with no surprises. The only thing which could be viewed as a negative are the excessive amount of very strictly enforced rules. The park is filled with very friendly, very happy people. The park is a very safe place to stay with security patrolling the park constantly. We would stay here again sometime. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.
Close to all of the Black Hills tourist sites. Do not miss Custer State Park.

This is a members only campground (gatehouse with security) - however if they are not full they do allow non-members to stay there. Unfortunately they only allow for a two night stay. We would say if you have the opportunity to stay here you should. Everyone was incredibly nice and we mean everyone. The campground has some unique history to it and they even come around and give you a welcome package the first morning. Now we know it's their opportunity to pass on some sales information; however, there is no sales pitch other than to hand you the info with the free coffee cup, pen, etc.
They have a huge pool that is very clean and well maintained along with hot tubs, pickleball courts, their own gas station (with a reasonable price), camp store, etc. It is easy to get to and very close to Mt. Rushmore (20 minutes) and a number of other places. We actually visited Deadwood after we left Mt. Rushmore.
We really loved this place and if we lived closer we probably would have joined. Their quiet time is actually quiet, the bathrooms/showers are the best we've EVER been in. There were three full bathrooms inside the bathhouse - meaning in addition to the normal sinks and bathroom stalls there were also three private bathrooms. You close the door and have a vanity, toilet and sink - they even had complimentary shampoo and cream rinse on the sink. Each bathhouse was like this. Everyone picked up after their pets and the park was incredibly clean. Even the WiFi worked - although it was slow and could be spotty. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

This is a huge park with over 400 parking pads, all neatly laid out in rows and blocks. Pad size was adequate. They warn you not to hang your trailer over the edge of the pad because it interferes with the mowing. Lots of foot and vehicle traffic. Lots of amenities. Water pressure was good. I was told the WIFI had been hit by lightening and they were waiting for a part. I left five days after it went down and it was still not working properly. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.
I went on a sales visit. At the sales meeting I was told that because I had stayed at the park on a sales visit, I was required to sign a form acknowledging I would be assessed an additional $500 transfer fee if I bought a membership from anyone other than the park itself (an owner or reseller).

This is one of the nicest parks we have stayed in our 8+ years of camping. Super friendly staff, well laid out park, great experience. They even have a gas station! There is PLENTY to do. Great pool, a place to eat, etc. Did I mention how great the staff are. Seriously the customer service was off the charts! We would stay here again and would recommend it for sure.
What would have made it a "10" would be better wifi (I know, we are camping but when you are on a cross country trip, you need the wifi) and I would recommend a larger clubhouse. With over 400 sites plus all the cabins, the clubhouse gets a bit crowded. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.
It is very close to Custer Park and Mount Rushmore.
You can rent a car. The Enterprise place was a bad experience for us but there are other options too.

This is a very nice campground with the best of care and service. Sites are concrete and most all are back in. Wifi was excellent and all facilities were spotless and well maintained. Our site was very close to level and water, power and cable tv were all good. Watch where you take the dog!! Rules limit where pets are allowed. Check in was like checking into a 5 star hotel. This resort is located about 7 miles south of Rapid City and near most major local attractions. Gas and diesel is available at the resort at very reasonable prices. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.
Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood and Ellsworth Air Force Base are all must see when in the area.

Whilst this is a Membership park, our rate reflects end of season visitors. This ranch has everything for the family however pool, spa and other amenities were already understandably closed. We were using Rapid City as a base to travel throughout the Badlands area and we stayed 7 nights. Facilities are excellent, sites large concrete with spacious grasslands around site and paved roads throughout. Park split into two sections. One for pets and the other for non-pets. Wi-fi was only fair but cable good. Imagine that this park would be very busy in season. We highly recommend and would stay here again. Stayed in 38ft motorhome with tow. A family oriented park, this park offers many amenities and is better suited as a destination rather than simply a place to spend a night. Miniature golf, on site restaurant, swimming pool, even a gas station with reasonable prices, this park has a lot to offer, but mostly for their members.
Hart Ranch is a membership park and, as they should, their first priority is their members. They will not take a reservation more than 24 hours in advance forcing transient guests to do the 'Hart Ranch Shuffle' where you move from site to site if you stay more than one night. If you're a member, they'll arrange to have your RV in your site before you get there, and will move it to their storage lot after you leave. The problem this presents for transients is that you have no idea what time they'll do this, forcing you to 'hang out' till your assigned site has been vacated. Some days, as early as 10:00 AM, other days not till 1:00 PM. We were there to ride our motorcycle on the beautiful roads in this area, but spent too much time every day moving around the resort.
Sites are not cramped, but are not 'spacious' either; some pull through's, mostly back ins. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

This is a membership park, our rate reflects being guests of a member. Sites are level, paved, and spacious. Many activities for families, restaurant and snack bar on site, and also a store and gas station. Grounds are well maintained and the green space between the rows provides a sense of openness. Non-members can stay in the park, but reservations can only be made 24 hours in advance. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.
There's so much to see and do in this area - you're only 30-45 minutes from Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Don't miss the downtown area for the walking tour to see the bronze statues of our presidents and Art Alley.

I stayed here three night and will stay here again. We liked it so much, we bought a membership. Park was conveniently located. People were very friendly and helpful. Service was great. I have a 30ft motorhome with a tote. I had full hookups with cable. Power level was good. Everything worked fine. Restrooms and showers were nice. Nice pool and restaurant on sight. I like to stay in RV parks that are rated 8 or higher. This met my expectations. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Rarely give a ten but this park definitely deserves it. It is well maintained, grass is mowed and trimmed, sites are level and spacious. Staff is very professional and friendly. The laundry was clean and all machines in working order. Had lunch in the restaurant. Prices were fair, food was good but two of the staff had multi-colored hair, in blue, yellow, green and red tints. Rather off putting especially for this facility. But that was the only thing that was the least bit negative. We will definitely return here again. Rate reflects our RPI rate. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a member park, but we were able to stay as guests at the very reasonable rate of $34/nt. Sites were spacious with a green belt behind, so you didn't feel too crowded. The park was perfectly situated to all of the amazing things to do in the area, yet off the main highway in a very peaceful and picturesque valley. There is a nice walking/biking path accessible from the park entrance. WiFi was a bit spotty from our site (#57), but walking up to the main lodge area and sitting in the rec area or outside, it worked very well. Satellite was not an issue and they let you wash your vehicles at your site. We opted for the mobile wash company, Pro Wash, who did a great job. This time of year was considered the off season, so the pool/hot tub area was closed which I understand, but was too bad because the temps were in the 80's and it would have been nice to use. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the park felt very secure. There is a "no pet" section, so those of us without pets can enjoy sitting outside without barking. We would highly recommend this park. Not sure what their policy is for guests in high season though. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Beautiful well maintained and landscaped resort. The activities available are carried and abundant. It is quite with superb security. We felt very safe and secure in leaving our rig to shop and explore. The office staff went our of their was to welcome us and provide suggestions for the activities off the resort that we were interested in perusing. The rate reflects our RPI membership rate. It is definitely worth a much higher rate if you do not have a special membership rate. We are looking forward to returning next time we are in Rapid City. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

RPI rate. Membership campground. Lots of shade, grass and paved double-wide sites. There are sites with water and electric only in the lower unit. Full hookups work well and utilities are well positioned. One drawback, in spite of all the great activities, is the "Hart Ranch Shuffle". Long term campers get preferential treatment to the extent that you may be told to move during your stay to accommodate. The campground is fairly close to Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Wind Cave and Jewel Cave (others as well). This a great place to stay, The shuffle is irritating but not totally inconvenient. Everyone on staff has a great attitude. We did enjoy our stay and will return if in the area. We camped at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
