This is a really pretty city park with a nice stream, walking paths, and near a excellent city park. It's obvious the city of Spearfish and the citizens love their parks. While not overly big rig friendly, it is manageable taking care to avoid the trees very near the road. Based on tree damage however, not everyone missed them. Most sites either due to length, location, or backing access from the road are not big rig friendly. They are also pretty generous with the advertised lengths of the sites. Our original site was advertised as 47' which would not be a problem for our 43' coach, but no way we would fit. Luckily, the helpful host found another site, p5, which was great. For big rigs, preferred sites p1, p4, p5, and p6 are very nice. Site 30, while on the main road has a huge side yard and was very long. Otherwise, sites 31 through about 42 are big rig friendly, minus the buddy sites. The campground does get busy, especially on the weekends, so reservations are recommended. Limited satellite coverage due to trees. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

We love Spearfish and have camped here 2 years in a row now. Our sites have been near the creek and bike path. The bathrooms and showers have always been clean and bright. The campground is pretty big and is very busy on the weekends. It was much quieter during the week. We didn't have any problems with noise from the park or any of our neighbors, but do run fans at night for white noise to block any of that out. You will want to make sure you reserve ahead of time. They have some first come first serve sites but those have no hookups. They have a small dump station, but since we had full-hookups we didn't use it. The bugs were not bad here at all. We love being near the bike path and riding our bikes to the nearby fish hatchery and park (you could easily walk to those as well). We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This is the second year we have visited Spearfish City Campground. The park is beautiful with a creek running through it. The wi-fi is almost non-existent. The man in the office told us that we're not losing anything as we didn't pay for the wi-fi. However, when it is advertised, it should be something that works. Just about every night there are kids (teens or early 20's?) that hang out in the parking lot across from the City Park. Every night you hear the bass from their music. Sometimes they race through the campground, but not often. What surprises us is that this is happening right down the road from the Police Department. It's a shame, because it seems like such a nice town. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

First of all, do NOT use your GPS to find this place!!! Unfortunately we were on the road at the time we booked, and had very bad cellular and wifi, so we did not get to see much information other than our confirmation number. Therefore we also did not get instructions on how to get to the park. We hit a dead end and a closed gate and almost had to unhook our tow in the rain. Long story short, we were finally able to get a call back from the park with instructions and directions. The campground advertises wifi, but we are apparently here too "early in the season" and there is none. But the cable TV is GREAT! My ATT cellular connection is pretty good. We specifically requested a "premium" site, which was described as creek side and more private, and ours was the "last" one available. We are quickly finding that there is ALWAYS something they don't tell you. At this place, this "last" site was available probably because it was the one closest to some kind of power plant that makes a lot of noise continuously. Oh well. We aren't exactly creek side, because across from us, between us and the creek, are the tent campers. They are the ones who are actually "creek side". I think I probably paid extra for this site, and looking around, there really isn't much special about it. Most of the sites here look pretty nice. The park itself is very beautiful. We are here in May, and the weather has been beautiful for the last week on our trip from California, until today. It is freezing cold and there will be thunderstorms for the 4 days that we were planning to visit Deadwood and Sturgis. No fault of anyone's. We purposely chose this time of year because getting RV sites is not a problem and the roads and campgrounds are not crowded because many kids are still in school. We will deal with the weather. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Deadwood and Sturgis are not really as close as we were led to believe. There are a couple of pretty long and steep (7%) grades between here and Deadwood. Our little tow is going to have a tough time with that. We thought about renting a vehicle, but have to go to Rapid City for that. Nothing local.

RV park is in a very well kept park. Reservation was easy to make over the phone. Despite two washer changes, our water hookup had small drip. Maintenance fixed it first thing in the morning when we were notified them. We really liked our stay here! Some sites are close together --the only downside to staying here but everything else is so nice! We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Travel Trailer.

I arrived in Spearfish on Tuesday afternoon, two days after the end of the Sturgis motorcycle rally, and spent four nights. The campground had lots of openings and I had reserved only the day before. I selected Spearfish because I could rent a car close by (but rather expensive), and after checking in and parking in my site I walked the mile or so to the Enterprise Car Rental office.

The sites are very close together, probably because this is right in the mouth of Spearfish Canyon and space is quite limited. Sites are generally back to back, with power, water and sewer being bunched together and paired up between the sites.

There are lots of trees, probably too many as I had to be extremely careful backing into my site because of the large trees on either side right at the road. I found the campground well maintained and the showers and restrooms were very clean, but there were some quirks. The doors on the toilet stalls were so close to the bowls that it was very difficult to get into a stall and shut the door. The doors needed to swing out rather than in. Also, the digital locks on the restroom doors were not operative.... until my last night, when I discovered that the CG staff had activated them that day and I did not have the combination. of course the office was closed till morning.

There is a laundry mat about 5 blocks from the campground entrance, just past the Police Dept and the Parks and Recreation shops, and I think this is the neatest, cleanest, best maintained 24/7 laundry mat I have ever encountered. Spearfish creek flows through the campground and on through town. There is a developed greenspace with walks and benches along the creek, making it very pleasant to walk in the evenings.

The Fish Hatchery and the adjacent city park lend a very nice atmosphere to the campground and made it a great place to base out of for my touring of the Black Hills. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The laundry mat on the corner of S Canyon and W Illinois, 5 blocks from the CG is extremely neat and clean, and even has a good WiFi you can use while you wait for your clothes to dry. Dough Trader Pizza, about a mile from the CG is very good pizza but rather expensive, Same for Steerfish Steak and Smoke, very good food but rather pricey.

This RV park is beautiful and well maintained and walking distance to the real city park which is also beautiful. There are walking and bike riding paths and a stream running thru it. At least once a week evening entertainment in the park. Great location and the city of Spearfish is interesting. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful campground in a park atmosphere. Next to Spearfish Creek with little streams wandering through campground. Nice walking paths and pet friendly with multiple dog bag stations. Pretty city park next door and very interesting fish hatchery, all within easy walk. Lush green grass everywhere. Lots of shade, although some sites in sun. Our site, 30, had big side yard with multiple big trees so that you could move your chairs and be in shade. Some sites much closer together. WiFi weak, but hookups fine and good 50 amp. This is one of the prettiest campgrounds we have run across. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

Awesome location amidst large trees with bubbling brook running along side the campground. This place defines camping. A bit congested and tight, but OK, in the back end of the campground (WiFi was spotty at the back end as well). Roads were paved, sites were primarily gravel with lots of grass, a picnic table, and a fire ring. Proximity to heritage fish hatchery and downtown was great. Paved cycling/walking paths through park and beyond. We will definitely return to this campground. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

A City Park run campground. It is set in a beautiful "park" like setting, lots of trees, creek running through it. I noticed a walking, bike path, I did not use it so no further comment on this. There is also a fish hatchery right at the camp area, very interesting to go look at. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

One of the nicest campgrounds that we have ever been in! Paved roads throughout the campground. There was a nice paved trail that went through the campground; it was great for getting our 3 mile walk in everyday. We were so very impressed with the area, and the town of Spearfish. This was a last minute reservation for 2 nights in the busy season, and we were told if we wanted to stay longer (which we did) we could park in the "walk in" section (no hookups.) However, they had a cancellation and called us to say we could move to another FHU site for an additional 2 nights. Very nice of them to remember us and let us know. This is a beautiful campground, green grass, lots of trees, paved interior roads, gravel sites. Our first site was level, our second more of a challenge for leveling, but we managed just fine. Sites are of varying sizes. Not all will handle big rigs easily. Some single sites were arranged in a way that they would be great for 2 or 3 friends camping as a group. With beautiful Spearfish Creek running right around the campground, views and fishing are easy. A short walk to the fish hatchery for an interesting tour, and to the large adjacent public park. We really liked it here and would return in a heartbeat.

Don't use your GPS for directions. Ours took us on a route which dead ended at the South end of the park. We had to go back out to main road and go into downtown on Main Street before turning to the entrance of the park. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

We've only been doing this RV thing for three seasons but have spent maybe 80 nights in a total of 20 different RV parks and I have to say Spearfish City Park is the best yet. The grounds are immaculate, mostly grass and large trees in a quiet tucked-away end of town along an absolutely lovely fast-flowing trout stream. Our site (P1) is large and flat, with all services clustered together near the rear. Both wifi and cable TV are excellent. Perhaps because the kids have gone back to school, it's marvelously quiet here. If I was looking for a place to spend an entire season, this would be at the top of my list. We camped at Spearfish City Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Although we arrived only yesterday, Spearfish looks to be an interesting town. It also has a Super Walmart, so we can stock up on provisions and the town is very accessible from I-90. We'll see the fish hatchery later today -- Tripadvisor says it's one of the top things to see in Spearfish and it's within easy walking distance from our site. There's a also lovely concrete walking/bike path that follows the stream and looks very inviting.
