Quiet park located on the Cumberland River. We were in space 37 - our 26 FT MH fit with no issue. Cell, OTA and Dish all worked fine. It was interesting to see the Barges heading up/down the river to/from the Lock. Lock was a flat ~2 Mile bike ride from the CG. There is a real steep road out of the CG that had us concerned, but our MH handled it just fine. Very friendly and helpful CG hosts! There is also a hiking trail, but we did not take it due to rain. We camped at Lock A COE in a Motorhome.

This place is so amazing that we almost don't want to tell you about it so it stays the hidden gem we found. The campsites backing up to the river are huge, tree shaded, well spaced with concrete pads, fire rings and heavy duty picnic tables. From our spot we can watch herons all day and each evening barges have quietly passed our site. There is a nice, level hiking trail that follows along the river and a wonderful sandy beach. We will definitely return to this campground. We camped at Lock A COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The river was very high while we were there and we saw no river traffic. Only here one night as we were traveling south, would have been a great place to stay longer.

Overall Rating:

I stayed here two nights in site 33 while passing through in a 27 foot motorhome with a tow car. As lovely as everyone has said. Road to get here was exciting. It's a scenic highway -- up down and around and multiple steep grades. Drive into campground pretty much straight down. Huge shady sites with patios -- mine was on river. Ones across road from river not near as nice. Great shaded tent sites in separate section right on river as well. Campground pretty much has everything you could ever want. Very kid-friendly. There is a short hiking trail -- the Lockmaster's Trail -- which goes up an old winding road behind the bathhouse which was the original access road. Takes you to the ruins of the Lockmaster's House high up on a bluff. Huge shade trees on site were planted by former lockmaster back in the 1930s. Quiet except for Monday morning when the grounds crew was out in force but that's the price you pay for a manicured park. Campground has its own boat ramp and playground. A little out of the way but well worth it even for a two night stay. Rate reflects senior discount. We camped at Lock A COE in a Motorhome.

Well maintained COE park with friendly staff. Restrooms/showers clean. Laundry facilities in separate building. Site is W&E only, very wide level concrete area for RV & table with ample space between sites. Locks to watch freight barges. Fishing below dam. Would recommend. Would rate a 10 if had full hook-up. We camped at Lock A COE in a Fifth Wheel.

The best park of our 4 month trip. Oversize, level, concrete pads in a beautiful setting on the Cumberland River. Nice area for walking, biking and just enjoying nature. Would definitely recommend to anyone. We camped at Lock A COE in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

I have stayed at about 200 CGs in the last 4 years, and I think this is the best CG ever. COE CGs are usually great, and this one was the best so far. Along the Cumberland River Cheatham Lake, Lock A, there is a 2 mile paved road with spaced trees, many with labels of kind, many concrete picnic tables, at least 3 boat ramps, the dam, locks, and power house, 3 playgrounds, well mowed grass verges. The sites are widely separated mostly and paved for RVs, with some large well graveled tent sites along the river bank. A second RV row is back from the river side sites but some are not real level. Bath houses very clean. Cost was $11.50/nite with America the Beautiful Senior card. The road in is narrow, windy, and some steep hills. Saw only one big A RV there. About 20 miles NW of Nashville off of state highway 12.33. We camped at Lock A COE in a Motorhome.

We paid $9.50 19, but full price is at a corp of engineers park that is rather small, but very well laid out. The pads were concrete and very level. It had a large playground. There was a lot of fishing and good fish-cleaning places. It will close the 31st of October for the winter. We were in a 31 foot class C. We camped at Lock A COE in a Motorhome.

Rate was senior based. Site was huge, level, paved, grass between sites, shaded, river view across the lane. Very quiet and dark. Laundry was clean with one washer and dryer. Bath house is clean. Nice walking trails & river access for boaters. Staff is friendly. Tight turn in our 35 foot trailer from the site lane loop in order to exit; I was able to use fisherman boat parking lot to turn. Other sites in campground may have easier exit. Very steep hill into campground. About 12 miles to town for groceries and Wi-Fi at McDonald's. Great spot. We camped at Lock A COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Lock A Campground recovered nicely from the flood of 2010. Sites were level, wide, and shady. Staff was extremely friendly. I have no complaints whatsoever about this campground. I definitely will stay here again. We camped at Lock A COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a week and were reluctant to leave. Had a beautiful, level concrete site on banks of Cumberland River. Park has an extensive bike/walking trail located on an old railroad bed running along the banks of the river. Lots of walking and biking areas. Hosts were most congenial. Signage leading into the area off the main roads could be better. Good 50 and 30 amp power and water pressure. AT&T cell very good, no internet without air card. Plenty of local TV stations. Used Senior Citizens card for 50% discount. Will return. We camped at Lock A COE in a Travel Trailer.
