1 Park near Carthage, Tennessee

Easily the nicest COE campground we have stayed at! Gorgeous, super well maintained grounds, beautiful lake, scenic area, and very reasonably priced. Sites 40 through about 65 on the lake side are the prime water front sites with full hookups and 50 amp. Site 53 the best site if you can get it since you'll have a very large side yard. Other sites on that row are pretty close together, but the lots are staggered, so you do have an unobstructed view of the lake from your outdoor sitting area. We were lucky as there was a cancelation and were able to move from an inside site to 48 for a week and loved it. If you don't need sewer and/or want a pull through lake side site, you can't get better than 77 were we also spent a week. Huge yard, no visible neighbors and on the water....darn near perfect. Now, the downside...there is rock shore, so while dogs are allowed to swim in the lake, no place to do it (there is a beach area for people). Also, wood ticks are thick! Always picking ticks off humans and dogs. The campground does fill up on the weekends and there are tons of kids and little yapping dogs, so not very relaxing, but during the week, quiet and peaceful. - Jerry and Betsy

Defeated Creek CG & Marina is wonderful for boating, fishing, and down home friendliness. The park hosts are most helpful and friendly folks who check on whatever your needs may be. Easy reservations made on line, six months ahead only. - DoxieLady

Large campground with many facilities. Most sites are well spaced out, however the full hookup sites along the lake seem a little close together. The other, W/E sites are spaced further apart. There are as many sites on the lakefront as there are interior sites. The layout of the campground is typical for COE except for several large open areas between loops and clusters of campers. The CG is wooded, except the trees are more sparse than usual, and almost all trees are hardwoods... reminds me of a "day-use" area, except with camp sites.
Good dump station, except there is no flush water line for connection to a black water flush inlet.
Verizon coverage is about 3/5 bars in most of the campground. There is a great hiking trail that originates in the campground and runs to an overlook several Iles away. - Bama Camper
