Overall Rating:

This campground has lots of potential but seems to be neglected. Lots of junk outside the office area. The grass is unmowed (8-10" growth in most area) and hedges are overgrown. Only large grassy areas are mowed with tall grass left around picnic tables, fire rings, patio areas and occupied sites. Trees need trimming as limbs have grown over onto the sites, dragging the roof and scraping the sides of campers. Trash can placement is good but trash collection isn't timely or regular -- cans go overflowing for days. Lots of young staff around the office area. Sites and interior roads are gravel and level. Hookups are convenient except for overgrown grass around them. There is no campground lighting for night dog walks. Big black plastic rat trap boxes on several sites are certainly unwelcoming too. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Convenient to Lookout Mountain attractions. Walmart, hotels, restaurants and fuel are closeby.

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed her for 8 nights in mid-July. Campground is small but is in a great location to use as a base to explore the area. 5 miles from downtown Chattanoga and about 5 miles to Ruby Falls and other Lookout Mtn attractions. The campground is located only 5 mins drive off of I24 and about 20 mins off of I75 so it was easy to get to. The road going is a bit curvy, but we managed it with a 40ft 5th wheel. some of the sites are short, but all are mostly pull thrus. Sites fairly easy to get into and out of. Our site had good shade as did about 60% of the sites. Gravel site pads that are fairly level with concrete patios with a picnic table and fire ring. CATV was good with about 50 channels and WIFI was good (averaged around 5 mb down all the time). Store minimally stocked, but did carry ice and propane. Staff was fairly friendly but obviously busy with campground, Recreation center and caverns. No planned activities kids that we saw, but pool look cleaned and nice. Saw a lot of overnight stopovers. would recommend and will return. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Caverns right behind the campground are GREAT!!! HIGHLY recommend you do them before you do Ruby Falls. Nearby eaterys include Cracker Barrel, Logans and the usual fast food fare. Walmart super center is only minutes away and are several gas stations that do have diesel. If going to downtown Chattanoga watch traffic on I24east in late afternoon, it REALLY backs up.

The front office staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed at RM while touring Chattanooga. The pull through sites in our row (155) are spacious, but much of the park has a very close feel. This park was nice for exploring the area, but was a bit more crowded than we tend to like. For example, there were some sites that had three cars parked at the site, sticking out in the road. People tend to stay up late, at least during our summer stay, but our bedroom fan blocked out the noise. If we are in the area again, we'd probably stay here if the larger pull through sites were available. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Pretty park on edge of town is woodsy and rustic-feeling. They had a fun go-cart track and a decent pool at a perfect temperature. Staff was nice. Sites were pretty but had to level trailer some. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Limitless options in Chattanooga!

Road to the park a little narrow and some curves involved. If you are long, as we are, take notice. Road is asphalt and interior roads gravel. Sites a tad narrow but utilities work well. Friendly staff and a small camp store with ice cream (yum). Plenty to do with cave tours, go carts, etc. We were just passing thru so did not get to enjoy the amenities. Very busy on Easter weekend. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

When driving up the hill to West Hills drive it is a left turn on the up hill grade so watch traffic. Sign will be on the left. It could be on you quick so....

This was our starting point for our attendance at the Cornbread Festival in South Pittsburg, TN. Very close to the city and all the things to do and see in Chattanooga, TN. Cave exploring on site, did not take the tour. Very friendly and helpful staff. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This campground may look a bit rough around the edges when you enter the office, but the sites, facilities, and staff are very nice. The restrooms though individualized are very clean and accessible. I am sure in the busy season it's humming around this place. I would recommend this place because it's close to local attractions. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

WIFI is great, staff is professional, hookups all worked right, pretty level sites, and easy access from the highway.

This is a big CG, and would likely be VERY busy in season. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a good RV park. The park is more than a RV park. They have a cave with tours, gift shop, and a Go Kart track. The roads in are paved, but once in the park the roads are gravel and so are the sites. Most sites needed leveling. The park needs a bit of maintenance. The electric box for my site had no door/cover so my electric connection was open to the weather. The roads need some attention and the grass really needed cut. But, that being said, I would stay again. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is very primitive. I personally would not stay here again because I don't like it when the grass has not been cut and it appears to not be kept up. It definitely doesn't live up to its website. The only thing good about it is the view. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice park. Well secluded behind a subdivision. Easy access. Have on-site caverns and go-cart track (fee). Nice laundry facility. Watch out for speeders through park. Sites are gravel and pretty level. Main road paved, lanes to sites are gravel. Very close to Chattanooga. We will come back here again. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed 5 nights and enjoyed the place a lot. Quiet but close to town for seeing friends and stuff. Very helpful staff and they keep the place nice and clean. Worried about noise from the GoKart Track but never heard them. Would stay here again anytime! We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Our packed gravel pull-thru was a bit unlevel but more than long enough for our 40 ft RV and toad. Space between sites was average. No trees near our site to block our satellite dish but most other sites would have a problem. Large selection of cable channels if you're blocked. Good Verizon signal. What we saw of the campground was reasonably clean but a bit dated and tired. We did not check out the advertised attractions (cave, go-carts, etc) but it was good for an overnight stay. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

I had high hopes for Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground but we pulled in and my hopes were quickly dashed. I felt like I was in the back woods. The park was set up real strange. Part of it was on one side of the highway and the pool and most of the activities were located across the highway. The office staff was not very friendly when we arrived. We got to our site and it was gravel and un-level. There are a lot of long term campers in this park. They just have them located further down the hill. The park claims to have Wi-Fi but we could never get it to work. The batting cages and the go carts were also not working. The workout room was locked up and the laundry room only had 2 washers and 2 dryers and there were tons of tent campers at this facility. Needless to say, the washers and dryers were never available. Raccoon Mountain has caves adjoining their campground and I think that is their main focus $$$ and the campground was an afterthought. This park is old and needs repair. We will not camp here again. We camped at Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
