Nature park. Good roads. We had one of the few sewer sites. Spacious campsites. Kayaking on lake. Bike and hiking trails. No city lights so plenty of stars. Short term campers. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park about 20 minutes from I-40. We stayed in Area #1, site #14. It was FHU, poor OTA, OK cell and no DISH. Site was pretty level. There is a beautiful stone bridge that spans a lake and a nice 2.5 mile hiking trail around the lake. There is a restaurant in the CG that looked crowded - but we did not go. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Near the Ranger Station, there is a neat Birds of Prey Aviary where you can see some owls, hawks and kestrels that have been rescued. A nice touch!

Overall Rating:

We enjoyed a great week at this park. Though we love the rustic charm of parts built by the CCC in the 30's, we are always a little nervous pulling in to these older parks with our 35' fifth wheel. It turns out the roads in the park are all very accommodating for our rig. There are a few places in the lower loop (where we stayed) that you'll need to drive slow and watch the trees. The upper loops are much wider and we would have stayed there, but they were still closed for the winter when we arrived. All the sites are paved and most have 50 amp and several in the lower loop have sewer. All the bathhouses except for one are a bit old, but just remember CCC charm, being grateful for warm water, and you'll find the good. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We hiked all the trails except for the overnight trail many times and you'll love how they meander beside the rivers and along bluffs. It's a given that you'll have to also enjoy the great food at the lodge at least once while you are there too and hopefully you'll get a table overlooking the lake like we did.

We stayed in section A (50amp FHU section) but could only fine 2 half/way level sites out of the 28 in this section and those two were already taken. All the rest of the sites in this section were sloping front to back or side to side and front to back. I ended up with our 40' class A having the front wheels off of the pavement. Not good. Site A19 and A25 were acceptable. Would not come back. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Bring your levelers! We stayed in Area 5 site 141, which I would not recommend. The site was so horribly unlevel front to back and side to side that our wheels were off the ground. Ours and the surrounding sites (138-141) were on a very steep hill making backing in a challenge regardless of rig size. Also, site 145 is extremely unlevel and the motorhome parked there had its front wheels off the ground by nearly a foot. Other sites (such as the full hook up sites) in Area 5 seemed to be nicely flat and the interior road to this loop was a bit tight for us. The bathroom/shower area was HUGE and fabulously clean. There are several hiking trails within the park. The park also has small boats (with or without trolling motor), kayaks and paddleboats for rent at reasonable prices. They also have a pool, which was closed for the season while we were there. Each site has its own garbage bin and they pick up twice a week (nice!). They also have a double dump station which is convenient for not having to wait too long if someone else is dumping. The park has a small but informative aviary, and a very small campground store that had absolutely nothing in it as they were about to close for the season (it's open May through October). Aside from the poor site choice, we would stay here again as it is a lovely state park. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Cumberland Mountain State Park is large and pleasant. During our visit for the Eclipse 2017 the campground was packed. The state chose to double the normal fees and require a 3-day stay for the event. Roads and sites in the campground are paved. Our site, listed on the web site as "level", was anything but, out of level side-to-side and front-to-back. We had six inches of blocks under one side and still were not level. The sites are only a 12 ft. wide strip of asphalt with no patio area. One side of the pad had an 8" to 10" drop off, a nasty surprise for the unwary. Friends staying in the next site were unable to level their Class C camper. Mud and trash on our site indicated it had not been cleaned in some time. Each site had water & electric hookups, a picnic table, a stand-up grill, and a fire ring. Restrooms and showers were clean and well maintained, but the rock-strewn and eroded paths to the restrooms were in need of maintenance. WiFi has been installed throughout the campground, and the Verizon cell signal is adequate. There is no cable TV and only one OTA TV channel. The park provides plenty of activities, including a baseball field, swimming pool, and golf course. We would return but only to a more level site. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Fine campground in a lovely, historic state park, built by FDR's CCC in the 1930s. We stayed in area 3 -- our site was paved and level with fine water and power service. Really friendly park staff and very amiable camp host. There's a lot to do here: nature trails, kayak rental, small CCC museum, tennis, pool, Nicklaus golf course adjacent. Pleasant restaurant - with adult beverages! - and large patio overlooking the lake. Good AT&T cell coverage; Dish was hit or miss due to trees around site. Camp store has firewood but not a lot else. Overall a really great experience. We'll be back! (Note: Rate reflects 2x event surcharge for 2017 solar eclipse.) We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for five nights in July. This is a good place to stay if you really want to be in or near Crossville. However, the sites are very narrow-both for living space and parking your rig-and they aren't even close to flat. Our trailer nose was eight inches off the ground. Also, the shower houses are definitely showing their age. Rusted pipes and broken seats are the norm. Finally, the camp store is incredibly limited compared to our other (very limited) experiences. With all of that said, the state park is beautiful and the campgrounds feel quite secluded (as you sit 20 feet away from your neighbor). The roads inside the campground are tight, but leading up to the state park are nice and wide, easy to navigate, even for a newby like myself. The public swimming pool is very large and close by, but you definitely want to drive to get there. The three dollars to get in isn't bad. The sites, though tight, are heavily shaded. Also they are all paved, including the roads. Crossville is nearby with many stores and restaurants. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Ozone Falls is just down the road. It's a short, but intense hike to the bottom where you can swim beneath the waterfall. First weekend in August is the 700 mile yard sale along Hwy 127.

Overall Rating:

Campground offers free WiFi, although spotty service. Sites are really close none too level, paved pad with electric & water. Some sites have sewer but one dump station available near camp store. Had to park truck at angle to keep nose out of traffic. Nice bath houses with foamy soapy and good water pressure. No hiking trails from campground, have to go across park to restaurant area to hike, boat rental and restaurant all in same area. Nice lake to fish. Great buffet for dinner at restaurant if you want a break from campfire and nice gift shop. Drove about 5 miles into Crossville and found dog park to let pups run off leash. Also, plenty of grocers and retailers nearby if you need to stock up. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed in our 40 ft motorhome. Our site was level and had full hookups. Relatively few sites have full hookups, and some sites would require significant leveling. The park is very clean and well maintained. There are lots of trees, and so we were unable to get satellite reception. Free WiFi was available, but it was very slow. Our Verizon wireless signal was strong and speed was good. It is a beautiful park and we enjoyed our stay. There are also cabins available, and some are very nice. Shelter houses are available, but must typically be reserved many months in advance. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a good park to stay at but be careful of some of the sites. All of them are back-in and some of them will force you to back up hills to get into the campsite. It would be great if the campground would put more pictures on their website so that you could be sure that your camper would fit. There are only a few sites with full hook-ups and those go fast. Very hilly interior roads so be careful with large rigs. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful campground with great walking trails. Very friendly staff. The campsites were very well maintained and the roads to the campground from I40 were easy to navigate. Our site was paved with full hookup. Alls sites are either paved or packed gravel and most are surrounded by trees and forest. Very nice restaurant overlooking the lake offering a buffet or a limited menu within walking distance of the campground. This is a campground we will revisit many times. Stayed in site 17. The site was paved and level but after making room for the slide out, I had no room to open the awning. In Area 1, you must be careful in choosing your site to accommodate slides and awnings. The park features many good hiking trails ranging in distance from 1 to 6 miles. Areas 2 thru 5 were not open yet but offer more level spots and better maintained sites. We camped at Cumberland Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
