Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful rustic campground among the hardwoods and rhododendrons. A small creek circles two sides of the campground and the sound from it is always faintly present. There are three loops in the campground; sites at loop B and C can be reserved, the sites at loop A are for walk-ups. The sites are generally wide, flat and level with a crushed rock base. Site spacing is excellent. Each site has a fire pit, table and lantern hanger. The sites in loop C also have a nice covered cooking table for placing a portable grill or to hold your utensils. A very heavy tree canopy makes satellite reception spotty. There is no OTA reception in loop C, although I understand there is in the other loops (unconfirmed). There is minimal cell phone reception with Verizon and AT&T. This CG is ideal for those who prefer a campground instead of a "park" - quiet, rustic. The restrooms are adequate although the showers have those aggravating push buttons. No water at the sites - although there are many spigots throughout the CG. Power is good. Most sites are plenty long and wide enough for big rigs, however the loop roads are narrow which makes site parking challenging at some sites. The dump station is not level which may result in inadequate tank drainage. All-in-all, a very nice campground. We camped at Rock Creek Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The 2 mile hike to Rock Creek Falls is worth the trip, but it is a 1073' elevation change. Although gradual, it's up hill much of the way. Beautiful falls.

This campground is a hidden jewel nested in the beautiful mountains of Tennessee. We noted several things while we were there. The sites all contained a nice burn pit and a food stand. Plus, every site had a well built picnic table and a lantern stand. In additional, every site had a wonderful base of pea gravel. Every site was laid out well and our 32 foot Class C got into our site (27) with ease. The bathhouses were clean and worked OK. My wife does not like the push button showers. They were well lighted at night too. Near the campground there was plenty to do. I counted at least 5 hiking trails. There was a playground and ample picnic tables for day use. Plus, this place has a pond or a pool. Yes, in fact it is fed by a mountain stream and when full is about 1-2 foot deep. Security rates sort of high. They close the main gate nightly at 10pm and open it again at 7am. The interior roads were all paved and in great shape. Every site had electric and it seemed to work well. We camped at Rock Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

another great forest service park! Huge site with level lot. Surrounded by woods on 3 sides and huge old forest around you. One of my top camping areas to date. When you arrive at the entrance to the camp grounds, the cement spring water pool is off to the right ( very cold spring water)and a wooden sign with instructions is on the side of the road. This applies to pay as you arrive people, if you reserved on line just go to your site. A card will be at your site with all your info for your stay, a nice way to do things. The showers take a bit to get use to, you hit a metal button and a mist spray comes on for 1 min. So just keep hitting the button and shower away. The bathrooms were very clean, 2 toilets and 1 shower per unit, and 1 unit per loop. 3 units per the camping area. Sounds like not enough but I think I was the only one using the shower, so it works. 27 electric only sites and 5 double electric only sites. 5 walk in tent sites. Water is available in each loop, you can fill your tanks there. The dump station is just before you exit the camp grounds. We hiked the two trails in the park and they were exceptional, one to a water fall and the other thru old woods and ridges. Great hikes, we did see one bear but he was digging at a tree and didn't care about us. Same old story of dogs not on leashes here as well as other places, only not such a lucky outcome here. A newley owned dog was lost in the woods and wouldn't come to anyone for 5 days, we left so hopefully he was caught. A lesson learned for letting your dogs off leashes at the camps or on trails. It made the stay a little sad. I would return to this campgrounds and explore other trails in the area. We camped at Rock Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Rock Creek National Forest campground is located in Cherokee National Forest in Northeast TN. Roads inside the campground while paved are fairly narrow. We had no trouble navigating the roads with our truck and 31' toy hauler trailer. Sites are gravel and many are large and deep. The larger sites can easily hold the largest RVs. The old growth trees and thick understory provide privacy for the sites. One loop, C has 50 amp electrical service while loops A and B have 30 amp service. This is a beautiful area and it is usually 10 degrees cooler than surrounding areas. Fees are $20 or $15 with a golden age pass. If you tent camp, there are 5 walk in tent sites with pea gravel pads at the top of loop C. The swimming area is unique. It is a large rounded cement pond with creek water glowing through it. Numerous hiking trails nearby. No reservations here and it is a very popular park. I recommend you arrive mid week to improve your chances to get a site. We camped at Rock Creek Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Well-shaded and very private sites in this lovely, quiet campground. Verizon signal very weak but usable with antenna. Beautiful trails and rhododendrons everywhere. It's probably spectacular in the spring! Ended up staying six days. We camped at Rock Creek Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Beautiful NFS campground. Roads are paved, sites are gravel, level, huge, and well-spaced for privacy. Campground is shady and cool, nice for family camping. Restrooms/showers could be cleaner. Rate reflects senior discount. We would stay here again. We camped at Rock Creek Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This park was initially built by the Civil Conservation Corp. It is a National Forest Service park, located in the Cherokee National Forest. There are 33 RV sites, all very large, level, and shaded. Sites are gravel and have electric hookups only. All sites are first come, first serve, no reservations. A mountain stream runs beside the campground. A small concrete lined pond is fed by the stream and available for swimming. Hiking trails lead to waterfalls upstream. Hose bibs are provided at a few locations in the campground to fill water tanks. A dump station is provided. Hot showers and flush toilets are available. For those who can enjoy a quiet wooded setting with only limited amenities, Rock Creek is a very pleasant experience. We camped at Rock Creek Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
