If you're a van or tent camper and don't need utilities, go for the rustic (primitive) campground. Sites are huge gravel pads with great river views and easy access to the rocky shoreline. Wood railings were recently updated, though the picnic table was showing its age. Restroom was decently clean but didn't have showers or hot water. It was very peaceful to camp at night with lots of wildlife noises. Super friendly staff when we checked in, and they even welcome dogs in the visitor center and park museum. Beware of "20 Mile" hiking trail that connects to primitive campground -- it's infrequently marked and poorly maintained. Shorter loops inside the park were in better shape. Weak but usable Verizon service. We camped at Nathan Bedford Forest State Park in a Motorhome.

On Friday, July 7,2017 I arrived at Nathan Bedford Forest State Park and departed on Monday, July 10, 2017. I had campsite 31. In my 25 years of camping I have never experienced the lack of enforcing the 10 PM quit time. At 11:30PM seven or eight bike riders were passing through my campsite. Earlier a dodge ball game was going on using the side of the bathhouse wall as a back stop and bounced back into our campsite. I could also mention seven or eight; seven to ten year olds with disrespectful attitudes. I know the Rangers can't control other people's children or the parents who play corn hole til midnight but they can make them comply to park rules. It is their responsibility. The museum , on an upbeat, was beautiful, displays were well organized and the view of the river was awesome. The plaques around the museum were explained well. The museum on a scale of 1-10 would rate a 10. We camped at Nathan Bedford Forest State Park in a Motorhome.

We decided to stay at the no-hookups area of the park, because there you are right on the shore of the Tennessee River, in the woods, with a lovely view. There are a couple of nearby water spigots, but no electricity and just a small bathroom with a flush toilet but no shower. Since we were the only campers there, we could let our dog run loose, which was nice.

About 1 mile from this campground is a water/electric campground (which costs a bit more, but still reasonable) and there you have showers in the nice, clean bathroom. But that campground is situated in the woods, with no view. That campground was about half full when we were there.

Miles and miles of nice hiking trails at this state park, and also a very nice small museum. The staff at the check-in office and the museum were VERY friendly, and even let us bring our dog inside both places, and gave us bottled water because they could see we were thirsty after our hike and hadn't carried water with us. We camped at Nathan Bedford Forest State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This stay was in the rustic log cabin on Pilot Knob. This cabin is a hidden gem. It is very secluded with a panoramic view of the Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake. It has a wood burning fireplace. Very clean. Tons of hiking trails and a river life and civil war museum are right out the back door. We have stayed in the RV campground here before, and it is a nice, peaceful place to camp as well. The park is clean and neat. Bring plenty to eat and whatever supplies you need, it is about 10 miles back to town if you forget anything. We camped at Nathan Bedford Forest State Park in a Campground Cabin.

Overall Rating:

We only stayed one night while traveling through the area. The campground area with water and electric is in dire need of repair and upkeep. The sites are very narrow, very uneven and the macadam surfaces at some sites are badly broken or uneven. Our unit is 36' long, and an inexperienced driver may have difficulty getting into the sites. The grass needed to be cut, some sites have never been cleaned from the fall and winter and it just appears as if someone had forgotten about this area of the campground. The setting is beautiful, with many trees and woods, so it is sad that it is so neglected. There was no one else there, so obviously it was very quiet. Good place for a one night stay when traveling. We camped at Nathan Bedford Forest State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We've camped here several times, and it's a beautiful area. There's lots of nature and you can expect to see deer, wild turkey, etc. Very quiet, and during the week there are usually very few campers. We've been there with only one or two others in the entire campground. It's located with easy access to the TN River/Kentucky Lake if you want to fish, etc. There's also a lot of Civil War history in the area. Very clean, and friendly. We definitely recommend this as a "get away" trip. It's only 6 miles from Camden, TN. We camped at Nathan Bedford Forest State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Park was having serious voltage issues. Our RV club was there for 3 nights and no one could run their A/C or refer on electric. The weather was unbearable. The campground itself was shaded and very scenic. When leaving the dump station was full resulting in over-flow of sewage everywhere. Would not return unless we are reassured these problems have been addressed. We camped at Nathan Bedford Forest State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
