Overall Rating:

Very clean campground that is actually on an island (accessible via bridge). It is about 25-30 minutes from I-40 (using exit 440 Wilton Springs) and is very easy to get to with very navigatable/big rig-friendly roads. Make sure to use the directions on the campground website as Google/GPS routes you through narrow, windy roads from what I am told. A number of the sites are fairly narrow in width, which work fine for smaller trailers, while there are some others that are nice and wide. Use the campground site plan as your guide when choosing your site. If the site looks wider on the plan, there is a good chance it is a wider site. Feel free to call and ask the staff about site dimensions. All sites are gravel as well as the interior roads. Besides the interior sites (a small handful are pull through), the sites either back up to a river/creek or to a large wooded area that leads to a river. We stayed at site 54 which backs up to the large wooded area that includes some tent sites. However, a beautiful river is beyond the wooded area about 100' away that could be heard from our camper with our windows open. All of the hookups (water, sewer, 50 amp, cable tv) worked well. Verizon cell service was good. The campground wifi was spotty (fairly slow but better than other mountain campgrounds we have stayed. Don't try watching Netflix unless the campground is not very busy.) Campground staff was very helpful and very present (raking leaves, cleaning bathrooms, answering questions, picking up trash, etc). Campground offers a small, fenced dog area that is about 30' square. Other features include a playground, volleyball net, swings, cornhole boards/bags, basketball court, and pavilion with 2 gas Weber grills. Bathrooms are very nice and clean. Campground is about 10-15 minutes from downtown Gatlinburg which is perfect for us. Close enough if you want to go, but plenty far enough away to have a secluded feel. We camped at Greenbrier Campground (formerly Greenbrier Island) in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful location creek side - level and spacious (note most sites are closer together). Well-maintained grounds. Friendly and helpful staff. The showers were clean, climate controlled, good water pressure and beautifully designed. We have already made our reservations for 2018.

The campground map is a good representation of the site spacing. All that we looked at as we wondered around were fairly level. We camped at Greenbrier Campground (formerly Greenbrier Island) in a Travel Trailer.

We found out this was the second year under the new management. I must say this was a great place to camp. The employees were very nice and able to answer any question we had of the area. The gentleman behind the desk let us change up our spot at the last min, in which I feel was a better move to allow us to have a great time. This campground was extremely clean, and the restrooms and office was very very clean all the time. We camped at Greenbrier Campground (formerly Greenbrier Island) in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

My family spent the July 4th holiday weekend at Greenbrier and we had a great time! We were on sites 93, 94, and 95. These sites were larger than most, but these sites all seemed to be a 'cut through' for folks to access other parts of the campground. We're the type who like lots of privacy so we were very bothered by folks just walking right through every few minutes. If this doesn't bother you, then these sites were all great.

The staff were all friendly and helpful, the campground was in a convenient location, and everything appeared to be neat and clean. If we return, we will choose our site more carefully to be sure we have the amount of privacy that we like. We camped at Greenbrier Campground (formerly Greenbrier Island) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We brought our kayaks and ventured out onto lake Douglas twice while visiting. It's a beautiful lake and wasn't crowded at all, even on the holiday weekend!

Very nice park. Quiet, shaded, surrounded by a stream. Good swimming hole. Far away enough from Gatlinburg for peace and quiet but close enough for short drive. Loved hearing the stream out the back window of my camper! Had a great time and will return. We camped at Greenbrier Campground (formerly Greenbrier Island) in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground is on a beautiful piece of land that is actually an "island" formed by two branches of the Pigeon River splitting around it. So, there is water completely surrounding the campground. Sites are large and level, and very easy to back into. Some sites are 5 ft from the flowing river, some are 50 yards. So, there is something for those who have little kids, and something for those who want to hear the water run all night long. The campground is very clean, and the camp store is there for any needs you may have. I didn't use the showers but checked them out. Very clean and nice. We looked at every campground in the area and this is, by far, the nicest. It is remote and clean, and not right off a busy road in town. The drive into Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge is only 10-12 minutes, and the main entrance to the national park is only a 15-minute drive. However, there is a little known, small Greenbrier entrance to the national park, and it is right across the road. This is a great spot to go for anyone who loves to kayak or trout fish. Or, even just to go have a quiet picnic beside the river. There are plenty of hiking trails across this road, too. We are not public "campground" people. We much prefer state parks, as they are consistent and never feel dirty. This place is an exception. We will definitely stay here again. We stayed here in our 32ft motorhome. The checkin for our reserved campsite was very easy. We camped in a back in site with lots of shade. The level site was covered with small gravel, also had a new picnic table and fire ring. We spent a lot of time away from campsite during the day, but at night it was very quiet and peaceful. It is about 9 miles from Gatlinburg, and out in the country. We liked this. The cable tv worked good. No problems with the electric or sewer connection. We will be coming back here on our next trip to the area. We camped at Greenbrier Campground (formerly Greenbrier Island) in a Motorhome.

Older campground just a few miles from Gatlinburg. The level shaded lots are spacious and easy to back-in. They only have 30 amps and our voltage kept dropping to below 105 volts which caused some issues with our appliances. The water and sewer hookups work fine but no cable and we couldn't pickup any over the air channels. Nothing fancy but clean and in a good location. We would stay here again. Very pretty location at the foot of the Smoky Mountains. The campground is well named, as it is an island, with the river running on both sides. Most sites back directly onto the river. The campground is easy to access through Gatlinburg with our 39' fifth wheel but is far enough from the main roads to be very quiet at night - all you hear is the river flowing past the campsite. However, all the water also means mosquitoes, so don't forget the bug spray if you want to sit outside. If you have a taller rig, you may wish to avoid driving on the 321 east of this campground where it joins the I40. We drove this route with truck only first and decided there were too many low branches and wires for 13'6". 12' or less may be fine. West of the campground to Gatlinburg is no problem. We camped at Greenbrier Campground (formerly Greenbrier Island) in a Fifth Wheel.

Spotless. Restrooms dated and you must pay for shower, but otherwise clean. The owner runs a "tight ship" which means don't get your "panties in a twist" when she covers the rules and expects you to follow them. The longer you stay, the nicer she is. There is a really nice place to swim or float on the Little Pigeon, which surrounds the campground. She will help you get parked if you want. I would go back. It's a beautiful site! And you aren't packed in like cord wood. We camped at Greenbrier Campground (formerly Greenbrier Island) in a Fifth Wheel.
