This campground was rated 5 stars. This was part of the reason we decided to stay here. I have stayed a many 5 star campgrounds in all my camping years and this is NOT a 5 star campground. Our site and about 75% of the sites were gravel. Here are my cons: Pool not open. Gravel sites. Sites are too small. Nothing for kids to do Horrible WIFI. Worked about 10% of the time. Too far from Gatlinburg and the Smokies. Pros: Very nice check-in and staff. Nice view out the back window of my RV of the woods. We camped at Smoky Bear Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Nothing much nearby. Gatlinburg and the national park were about 15 miles away. Carver Orchard and restaurant was sort of nearby. Very nice fruits and veggies and good restaurant.

The campground is well maintained and has many amenities, all sites have full hookup. All surfaces in the RV section are either paved or gravel, no mud here! The owners obviously make everything the best for their customers. This is about 12 miles to Gatlinburg/Smoky Mountain N.P. entrance. Unfortunately, Gatlinburg is a huge tourist trap and traffic is horrible. We found a route that goes north of the city, then take the Gatlinburg Bypass to get to the park. Much less traffic. We spent most days in the N.P. We camped at Smoky Bear Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This place is very nice, and quiet. A little pricey but understandable because of the area. Swimming pool was great, and they have some supplies in the camp store, including ice. We camped at Smoky Bear Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The campground owners have a paper to give you (on arrival) giving you area suggestions such as their favorite hikes, drives, and restaurants. We used this info and it was spot on. We booked a 3 night stay, and if we visit the area again I'd stay here for sure. There's a large grocery store towards town, but close to their CG are small shops and BBQ joints. Golf course about 3 miles away, Max Patch about an hour away.

Nice quiet well kept grounds. We were on lot 24 in the back corner so we had little road noise. Lot was nice size, very shady. Several lots are all gravel. Staff was very pleasant. Nice store with gifts and supplies. We were escorted to our site and directed where to back in and shown all hook ups. Site was long enough to park our truck in front of our fifth wheel with no problem. It was a rather long drive to Gatlinburg from the campground, then you had to fight traffic to get through town. We went to see the sights not shop, and the heavy traffic every day got old quick. Very few TV channels but what we had was good. Overall, it is a very nice campground. Staff really seems to take good care of the place and their customers. We camped at Smoky Bear Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

The park is very clean and well maintained. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The spaces are a little tight, but workable. The sewer connection at our site was so far back, we would have driven over the drop-off if we had backed up that far. We dumped at a pull-thru site before leaving. The only real bad thing was the wi-fi; it only worked about 25% of the time. Best time was early morning, so it could be that as more people used it, the weaker it got. They need a repeater at the bath house. We camped at Smoky Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Pricing was $45/night less 10% Good Sam discount plus tax. We ended up about $46/night. Reservation and check-in process were professional, efficient and friendly. Signage from the street is good. We hooked/unhooked in front of the office. The entire property slopes so we felt it best to unhook first. All hook-ups worked perfectly. We were able to obtain Verizon cell, Sprint Mifi and DirecTV signals. Our pull-through site was level. There is a pool and hot tub but they were buttoned up for the winter. There is slight road noise but not enough to be annoying. There were a few pieces of small trash (plastic tie wrap, cigarette butt, candy wrapper) in our site but I wouldn't say our site was "dirty". Campground wifi didn't work for us. We had a decent stay - nothing especially good and nothing especially bad. If returning to the area, we would be open to staying here again but might explore other options first.

Our biggest disappointment (not the campground's fault) is how far the CG is from area attractions. The number of miles might not seem like much on paper but when you factor in the extent of traffic in the area (both in/around downtown Gatlinburg AND in/around the Smokes), the extra miles to/from the CG was a bummer. There is another CG closer to town with a Trolley Stop in front of it that might be more convenient. We camped at Smoky Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Downtown Gatlinburg is very touristy - think t-shirt shops and candy shops. Moonshine tasting is fun. It's $5/per person then they give you a $5 off coupon if you purchase something. Great Smoky Mtn Natl Park is a total cluster. There are lots of cars and lots of traffic. Wish the Park Service could find a solution such as running shuttles. However the Smokes are beautiful and a must see. Buy the $1 trail map to help plan your hikes. Start VERY early and beat the crowds (at least on the way in).

We were fortunate to get the last spot in the campground. It was a little tight, especially the car, but staff very helpful getting us comfortable. The owner and staff were excellent and helped with ideas in visiting Gatlinburg. The campground was well maintained. Pool and hot tub were already closed for the season. Overall Rating:

Campground was beautifully maintained and staff was incredibly friendly and helpful in all regards.

Pull thru sites were very nice, as were some back-in's, but other back-in's were very close together. As another review here mentioned, there are lots of trees so some back-ins could be a little tricky. Our only problem was the traffic noise.

Be aware that sites #2 thru #13 back right up to busy route 321! When we booked our reservation we were going to be on site #18, off the road, but arrived to find we had been moved to site #5 - a tight back-in smack on the road. We were told the owner has the right to move reservations to where she see's fit, which I guess is her prerogative as the owner, but it made us pretty unhappy. Sites are about 6 feet above the road but that did nothing to lower the noise level. We didn't even use the fire pit because it just was too unpleasant to sit outside due to the traffic noise. Had a 4 night reservation and left 2 days early due to the lack of peace and quiet. The staff was very understanding and even gave us a refund on the two nights we didn't use - which we appreciated.

SO! Smoky Bear is a beautiful little campground with an outstanding staff, but if you want some peace and quiet don't reserve a site on the road side and hope you're site isn't changed before you get there. We camped at Smoky Bear Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Hungry Bear BBQ down the road on 321 is a can't miss if you love good BBQ! Small, unassuming building which does more carryout than sit-down (only has about 6 tables), but best ribs we've ever had.

Campgound outside of Gatlinburg, approx 20 mins. on 321 to town....We requested a pull thru site and were told there was a mix up and we had to get a back in...our request was over a month old??? Our site was spacious #14 back in, surface was gravel, all utilities worked, some shade, but not too much.....Campgound was clean, bathrooms spotless and the host was friendly and pleasant to deal with. Campground is located off 321, which can be noisy. We camped at Smoky Bear Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Plan to make a trip to the artists community on 321 before you get to Gatlinburg...Well worth the time...In addition take the back route to see Roaring Forks Motor Nature Trail, 321 to Roaring Fork Road, on the left before you get to Gatlinburg proper, or stop light #8 in Gatlinburg, you will be surprised.

On the plus side, the park is very clean and the hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. There are lots of trees, which makes for a pleasant feel but it makes satellite access tricky. On the downside, the spaces are very close together, not level, and tree limbs overhang the sites so the roof of the RV gets scraped as you pull in... they need to do some trimming. As for value, location I guess justifies the high rent, which is commensurate with other RV parks in the area. The 12.75% lodging tax (not under their control) makes it even a bit more burdensome. We camped at Smoky Bear Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
