We checked in here to explore Knoxville, which is a quick drive down I-75 only a mile from the campground. We knew in advance the office was closed for lunch so we just went to our site and setup. We were in site 10 which is in an odd place in the grounds and we needed to back up into a field in order to get into the site. The site was not level, needing blocks under the left like almost all other campers. Even though there was a lot of rain, it did drain well for the most part, but was still puddling in areas.
The sites are gravel with a little bit of grass in between. We had no one next to us, but if there was, it would have been very close. No cable or wifi, but Verizon 4G coverage was great and we did get most local channels over the air. Laundry had four washers and four dryers, running $1.75 for each. Not a glamorous campground, but much better when compared to the other one down the road. We did not join the Escapee Club and I couldn't imagine joining a club to have a minimalist campground like this. That being said, we would probably return if ever back in the Knoxville are. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Rocks Tavern is about a 20 minute drive, but is a great bar with pool tables, trivia and some of the best chicken wings I've had outside of Buffalo.

Host was very friendly. It's a basic campground. The sites was FHU, PTH 50 amp. No cable, WiFi Tango which we didn't buy. 4g strong Verizon. Lots of channels on antenna. We were nearby our neighbors. Some shade I would think when trees have leaves. The ground was grass & gravel. No playground but a dog walk. It served our purpose. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Check in person not very helpful or friendly. Tight roads but easy to get around if you go slow. Sewer hookups are way to the rear of the sites so you need an extra long hose. Some trees limbs are in the way of exiting site. Mostly seasonal and long term residents. Not far of the interstate. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

We are Escapee Club members. However we did note there was a sign for non-members to use the campground. Suggest you contact in advance. We spent 4 nights there in a motorhome. Very long site for not only us in a small RV but the bigger ones next to us. Staff was friendly and informed us on events, etc in the area. We came to see family at the University, so Knoxville was only 10 miles away on I-75 south. Easy access on/off. We wandered about the country side and there is a big lake area near Oak Ridge. Great place where we will come back to. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Knoxville Market Square, Ice Hockey in town, Free trolley rides around market square and downtown. University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Price reflects monthly rate. Staff was friendly. Site was long, but barely enough room for our truck. Sites were close together, but enough room for a picnic table. Multiple social events weekly. They have multiple short trails in the back in the woods. Points off for allowing confederate flag flying on an RV. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Ten miles to the west is a 5.6 mile greenbelt along the river. Pass the TVA plant, go over the bridge, immediately take a right and park immediately on the right for access to the middle of the greenbelt. Alternately, go another mile or so after crossing the bridge and park in a big parking lot on the left; this is the start (end?) of the greenbelt as well as access to trails in the woods.

We stayed 3 nights to see the area.

The park is far enough from I-75 (Exit 117: SR-170, Raccoon Valley Dr) so there is no noise from the Interstate but Raccoon Valley Dr is a narrow rural residential roads that is without a shoulder and has vegetation encroachment.

The online reservations system was not working. Had to call the park directly. The basic rate was for 30 AMP service. There was an additional $1.00/day charge for 50 AMP service.

The interior roads and site parking pads are gravel. Some of the roads are narrow with tight turns and vehicle encroachment because the sites are too small for parking of additional vehicles. This is another park that doesn't understand the simple concept of the importance of a flat, level parking pad! Almost all of the parking pads had a single or double pitch. It is a shame that a business expects these sites to be acceptable and that people accept them. There is NO privacy between the sites as the sites are on top of each other. An example was an RV had their awning slightly extended which touched the next RV. The RV that was being touched had to coordinate their departure with the other RV to retract the awning. They have full hook ups - water, electricity (50 AMP), & sewer. The utility connections were towards the middle of the sites but some of them were on the uphill side of the parking pad creating an uphill flow. There was an outside table but the environment was not inviting to sit outside.

The trees around the park made satellite reception hit and miss depending on site assignment and your dish configuration. The park brochure showed 11 broadcast channels. Didn't try to get any broadcast channels.

Only WiFi reception provided by the park was a paid service (Tengo). Our Verizon WiFi hotspot was adequate. Our NET10 phone reception was acceptable.

The designated fenced pet area was sufficient for large or small dogs. There was sufficient area to walk dogs along the park roads. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We were able to make a day trip to visit Obed Wild Scenic River & Big South Fork NRRA. And another day trip to visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

We arrived just as the office worker had shut down for lunch, but she didn't want us to have to sit there and wait an hour so opened up just for us. There is no Wi-Fi except for in clubhouse, but we had a good signal on our Sprint hotspot, so used it instead. Nice selection of brochures and things to do in the area. As with most Escapees parks - things are neat and tidy and the people friendly. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a Walmart about 10 minutes away, with lots of other shopping available. It's about an hour to the Smoky Mountains and Pigeon Forge, but with the lower lodging cost you can buy a lot of gas.

Easy access from I-75, exit 117. Nice clubhouse, level sites and easy to access, office staff very nice. Small park so be sure to make reservations. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park is run by the Escapees Organization and it is a prize. Plain, simple and most of all, Clean and Orderly. Their bathrooms are just like at home. Some erosion on the gravel roads due to heavy rains keep me from ranking this as a #10. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We really loved the park, a bit of a twisting road up to the park ,but just go slow. Lots to do at the park itself, the caves , gem panning, go carts, indoor mini golf, hiking trails. The gift shop has very reasonable prices on gifts. The staff are very nice and helpful, had a problem with the bus and they put me in touch with a mechanic. The setting is magic, we had the premium lot with a cement patio and cable with over 80+ channels, big enough lot for the toad and the bus. We will come back for a longer stay. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Walmart just a few miles away, diesel at the the back of the BP station, big rig friendly , easy in and out. Flea markets are a worthwhile visit and of course Chattanooga.

Rate reflects Escapees membership. Stopped over after Christmas and park was not very full. We have stayed here before and park is great for easy on and off from the interstate. Nice sites with good water , electric, and sewer. We like the new reservation system, we called ahead and they gave us our site number so we could just park when we arrived. We will camp here again. Rate is based on weekly rate for Escapee member. Typical RV park with good access roads, fairly level gravel sites, and good full hook ups. Restrooms and showers are very clean and neat. Laundry is clean, in good repair, and reasonable. This is a good location to visit the Knoxville area but it it an hour from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many of the people staying here are full time RVers who are friendly and knowledgeable. Park personal go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We would stay here again. This is an Escapee's Club park, and the rate reflects the members rate. While we were here, they filled in the pool, concreted it over, and are erecting a gazebo in its place. This park is a typical Escapees Park with a very friendly and helpful staff, and the grounds were well manicured. The spaces can be tight when the campground is full. They have weekly entertainment when musicians from the local area get together and play in the activity center. Members can use the kitchen also. They also have weekly dining out at local restaurants and sometimes a potluck. One word of caution: there are full time residents in the trailer park next door and within the park, that like to lift things if they are loose and handy, which they try to sell. Also, some go through the RV park asking for money. Management is aware of the situation. Otherwise it is a nice park. We stayed here in a fifth wheel and would stay here again. We stayed here in 2006 and 2007. The park has been upgraded with 50 amp service, along with upgrades to the clubhouse. Rating this park is difficult due to previous experiences. They do not have the activities or socializing as in the past. They still have the local music group regularly. There appears to be a few local permanent residents with worn trailers, large ripped awnings and a covered refrigerator outside, etc. We were entertained by our favorite rap music one day for about an hour and a half, bumph, bumph, bumph. Occasionally you hear workers leaving in the morning. Overall, it was mostly quiet during our stay. Sites are relatively level, and no low hanging branches. Lots were sufficient for slides and had room for the picnic table, chairs, grill, etc. The host sure was friendly upon arrival and represented Escapees well. As of Memorial Day weekend the pool wasn't opened, not sure they are going to use it anymore. With the increases in rates, the costs are becoming comparable with other RV Parks. At our next Escapees Park location, we will most likely stay at a nicer competitive park with the difference in cost of $15 on the monthly rate. Not sure we will return to this park. Maybe it's time to explore other options. The rate approximately reflects a monthly rate with 50 amp service. This is still a fine park to stay at, just different this time. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rate based on Escapees discount. Lovely host. Very friendly and I got the Escapees hug. This is our first stay in an Escapees camp. People seem to be very friendly. Nice looking park. Well kept. Gravel sites. One bathhouse. Nice enough, they ask campers to help keep them clean. Don't offer cable, WiFi is Tangonet pay. Nice walking trails. Would come back again but wouldn't go out of my way to come here. We camped at Raccoon Valley RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
