Some of the interior roads are not big rig friendly. Last year we drove through 1 of the areas on the island that were pull through...they must only be for small campers and tents. We had to remove our ladder to squeeze past a tree. This time we knew where to go! Right on the lake, quiet & peaceful in the winter. We only saw 1 other camper in the area. The rest seem to gravitate towards the area by the entrance. Nice big playgrounds. Con is there's no sewer and some spots are uneven. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Fifth Wheel.

PROS: Beautiful lake. CONS: Excessive slope. High-crime? - Not friendly. Huge park. Not one park employee or camper said "hello". Glass window and cop car at entrance made it seem like a high-crime area. - Website said site 183 could accommodate a 57 foot motorhome. The site could barely handle a pop-up trailer. Our motorhome is 34 feet. Utilities too far away; had to extend our electric cable. - Excessive slope. We could have broken our necks getting out of the rig. - Website should be updated to show which sites are sloped before laying out 100+ dollars. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed for four days. This is a beautiful park. The first morning we saw a hawk on the fence across the road, a heron on the shore and squirrels everywhere. Our site was parallel to the road with plenty of space. The roads are narrow, but mostly one way. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Motorhome.

I frequently travel to Chattanooga in my RV on business, and Chester Frost is my home away from home. I am happy to hear there is a reservation system in place now because it is true that it was tricky to get a spot before. In good weather, the park fills up early because it is a favorite spot for local families and fishermen. We have a favorite spot on the water that is a little farther from neighbors than most of the spots. We have no complaints about this park. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Motorhome.

We arrived in the afternoon in the middle of the week with no reservation. As stated in other reviews we drove around in the one loop that had no reservations and found the best site on the lake but it was not level. The additional comments I wish to make, acknowledging the good comments from other campers, were that the roads to all the sites in our loop were not clear as to direction. Each road had a chalked arrow on the road indicating direction, one way signs would have been clearer. The dump station in our loop was in the middle of the campground but was on the wrong side of the road, which was the right side of the trailer. I turned around and came back against the "flow" to dump. I also thought the roads were narrow and tight to maneuver. Now having said all of this, If I am ever in this part of the state again, I will certainly return but with a reservation. The rates for this campground are very good compared to the rates for the local RV parks. We stayed for four days. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Travel Trailer.

Large county park on the lake that offers three camping sections for RV's plus a separate tent camping area. First the pros: Our site was shaded and on the lake, which was beautiful. We did not encounter any issues as previously mentioned as we were able to reserve a site online. The ranger at check-in was friendly and helpful. Some of the sites are long enough for a long RV plus a tow vehicle. Laundry facilities are on site that are clean and provide a decent washer and hot dryers. A picnic table and fire pit are located at each site. The park is convenient to local shopping, restaurants and Chattanooga sites. Park staff periodically patrols the park. Although we did not use, some of the bathhouses offer "private" shower rooms and they appear clean. The park provides a lake beach, boat ramps, and several fishing piers and boat docks. Parking available for boat trailers. Cons: Our site had trash piled in the firepit, which as a result we did not use. There was also trash and a lot of cigarette butts around the park itself. Perhaps utilizing workampers just to clean campsites and pickup trash in the park as people leave might solve this issue. In addition to a large dump station at the park entrance, there is a small dump station for portable tanks located at one of the campgrounds. This was a negative for us because it was quite a distance from our site and not convenient at all to use. It would have been nice if there was a dump station for portable tanks located at both campgrounds. Overall, we did enjoy our stay and would definitely visit again if we are in the area. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Pros: Some sites are beautiful and on the water, some others have nice views at 2nd tier from water. Most are spacious with nice picnic tables. Showers were clean with benches and hangers. Grounds were well maintained and plenty of garbage cans. Lots of park employees riding through out the day thru the park. Nice area to ride bikes. Cons: No sewer (which would have earned a 9.5 from me). Confusing check in. We were given a map to ride around and look at the sites available. One area is reservations and had 2 areas marked which were either too short or not level. We assumed the others sites in that area were already reserved, but upon checking on the computer later, they were not. We could barely understand the lady behind a window at check in who talked thru a microphone with wind blowing her voice away. Terrible communication situation. Some sites have large holes in the pavement and some are quite narrow. Worst problem we had were the campfires and smoky campground. The site behind us had a pop up camper that kept a fire going with green wood around the clock with smoke blowing directly our way. Either the fire rings need to be removed, hours limited for a campfire or some oversight with the materials allowed to be burned. Also noted were some low branches on Ring Gold Road leading into Chester Frost Park that could be problems if not trimmed soon. We will return, but will use reservations in the future. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Motorhome.

This county park could be a solid 10 if it there was a reservation system. We absolutely loved our site once we got through the cronyism involved in trying to get a site. You have to get on a wait list at 7:00am or midnight depending on who you ask and then show up at noon and get your site before they give it to one of their buddies. Enough of that...the site itself and hookups where great. OTA tv was good along with Verizon, they also have good wifi provided by the local power company EPB. We would definitely stay here again, especially if the rumored online reservation system is available in 2017. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you are planning on camping at Chester Frost park, don't waste your time. Currently half the campground is closed for construction and the other half is almost impossible to get a spot! They do not accept reservations and won't give any information over the phone, other than "it's first come, first serve". The policy is to "check-in" at 12:01 midnight, in person, at a fishing pier and put your name on "the list". THEN you must come back at 7 AM and you must be present when they call your name, while you sit in a parking lot! I tried for 3 days to get a spot...all 3 days, the same people where there waiting in line at 7 AM with their folding chairs and coffee cups! (I was unable to go at midnight, because I live 30 minutes away, I have children and I like to be sleeping at midnight!!) Turns out these other folks in line at 7 AM, already had spots in the campground, so they only had to walk to over the fishing pier at midnight, then show up with their coffee and wait for a waterfront spot to open up! I had no chance of getting a spot! So, they suggest you wait until noon to see if anyone happens to check out. So I did, 3 days in a row...and NOTHING!! When I finally came home 5 hours later each day, I had to look at the sad faces of my children when I told them that no, I did not a camping spot this time. It's a shame their crazy policy makes it so difficult just to go camping!! The park rangers are not friendly at all. They even hand out a list of other campgrounds in the area and suggest you go somewhere else! We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice county park. Lots of sites on the water but difficult to get. Big rigs will have a problem getting into some sites. Paved - 30/50 amp service. No cable, no sewer but dump station. Nice restrooms with private showers. No reservations and the strangest way of getting a vacant campsite we have ever seen. You must sign up at the Ranger Station at night and wait for your name to be called across the street from the Ranger Station early the next morning. With locals looking out for each other it is very difficult to get a site here during busy camping season. Don't need rig with you to rent a site - so campsites can set vacant for days with no one using them. Lots of children and groups camping together. Would return but not during busy times. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Motorhome.

Nice county campground. The sites are a bit tight for a big rig with slides. There are level sites but you have to pick and choose one that fits your rig. The park employees are very friendly and even trimmed some branches for us. We enjoyed our time here and would come back and stay again. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful park. Our rate of $25 a night includes the non-resident fee. Our site (#93 or #94) was the first waterfront site on the left out on the "island." We only had to raise our 5th wheel 2 inches on one side to get it perfectly level. The site was very large with an asphalt pad and a pea gravel area for the picnic table. We had shade trees and a huge grassy waterfront site with a fantastic view of Lake Chickamauga. There were several Wi-Fi hot spots throughout the park which is quite hilly and scenic. TV reception was excellent and there are lots of places to bank fish or pier fish if you don't have a boat. This is an extremely clean and well maintained park and we highly recommend it to everyone. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Fifth Wheel.
