I camped in a Class B. The park has an east and a west campground. The east is out in an open field with power lines above. No shade or privacy. If you have to stay there, sites 1-3 would be the best. The west campground has more shade and a little more privacy. The outer loop sites are small, but for the most part, level. Depending on the length of your RV the inner loop will have an incline (I saw some on 6" levelers in the front). The sites aren't too close but both loops allow you to easily see your neighbor's picnic table. Outer loop sites 38-46 got a lot of pm sun. All 3 of the handicap spaces were in total sun. Site 28's picnic table would be at the back of your RV. The roads to both campgrounds are narrow and steep with several switchbacks. I can see longer vehicles having to cross the yellow line in order to keep from running off the road. Check in for both campgrounds is at the park office located on the west side. They have a gift shop there but no camp store. The swimming pool was large and looked clean (though it wasn't open for the season yet) and there was plenty of parking. You must drive to everything in this park (exception -- if you are staying in the west campground, the west hiking trails are close). The newly remodeled bathroom (shower and toilet combined) was clean and well stocked. However, there was only 4 stalls. The only trash can is by the dump station about 1/4 mile from the campground. The OTA reception a very good with 3 main channels and numerous others like ION, MeTV, etc. The park personnel are very friendly and helpful so if you get there and don't like your site they are happy to switch you. The rangers patrol pretty often. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Try the Clinch River Brewery. I didn't eat there but the locals said the food and the beer was very good. The park office has a menu which changes on a regular basis.

This park needs some TLC. We stayed in the west area in site #6. The approach to the camping was not too bad as we disconnected our Jeep at the office. The site was not level so we used boards under the front wheels as the leveling jacks could not compensate for the pitch. We couldn't get all the way back into the site as they had timbers that would interfere with our stairs when they opened. The bathrooms had tons of spiders everywhere! You had to be careful bending down in the shower or else you were in a web....I used the handicapped stall as it was the only shower that the temperature could be adjusted. Also used the hand held wand to spray the bugs away before getting in, had to put the sprayer on the rail as the holder didn't work. The screen windows had hundreds of dead bugs stuck to the outside. The walk to the showers went by sites with broken benches, trash and cigarettes in the firepits, and picnic tables that you would need to scrape the dirt and debris from underneath before using. The volleyball court had broken concrete pieces in the playing field...ouch. Simple neglect. ...I don't mind old outdated showers but clean is important! On the good side our site was spacious with beautiful trees! Loved hammocking. Not very many people in the campground which was lovely. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Sprint coverage was great for a change! Loved watching all the park deer. We came to trout fish the Clinch from our kayaks but the Norris dam opened early each morning we were here. Got a few days in but were off the water by noon when the rising water chased us off. Enjoyed lunch at the Hoskins Soda Fountain and drug store!

Overall Rating:

This park is heavily shaded in most areas. Nice in hot weather but there is little grass as a consequence. Most sites are on the small side. There are a few that will take a 35 to 40 foot unit.

Water and electric hook ups were in good working order. Many sites have paved pads. Sites have large concrete picnic tables on concrete pads. There is a playground for the kids.

There is an extensive hiking trail system from the campground.

Negatives: no near by dumpster and dump station is down the road not within the campground itself.

This campground is called the "west" campground. The "east" campground is located near the marina and dam. It is more open and grasses. The sites look quite narrow but will accommodate large RVs. The road going into that campground is very narrow. Caution must be used not to run off pavement.

The road into the west campground is very good however there are a couple of switchbacks that are manageable. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We originally booked a site in the East campground. Upon arrival, the east side was not suited for us. The sites are extremely close with no type of screening in between sites, only provides 30 amp electric and is situated right underneath high tension powerlines. The East campground just wasn't for us. After calling the front desk, they happened to have a site available on the West side campground and happily assisted us in changing our reservation. The West campground, hands down, is the nicer side. The sites are a little closer than we normally prefer, but much more spacious than the East side. Also, the park wasn't very full which allowed us to have open sites next to ours. Wonderful, shaded sites with natural screening between sites. It was lovely. No complaints with the hook ups, all worked wonderfully. The playground is a great asset for families. We also enjoyed just walking the loop and enjoying the scenery. A nature trail head is found just off of the loop and was a fun excursion for our family. The bath houses were clean, but a little outdated. Paint peeling from the ceiling and tons of spider webs, but it is a $20/night natural state park and seemed to be decently maintained. If you like wooded, natural camping with a few modern amenities like we do then this campground is for you. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back if we are ever in the area! We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We had no idea that the road into this campground would be so steep and windy with hairpin turns. The price of beauty I think. We had 50 amp power, water at our site and our phone and internet (both Verizon) worked. The site was nothing but dirt but our rig sat on asphalt and we did have a picnic table, a fire ring and a grill. We were glad we have a rug. It took some leveling but we managed to get settled and it was beautiful. There were few other campers near us; the campground was almost empty as it was a weekday. Most of the sites are very small and if it had been full we would have felt very cramped. I could see no evidence of camp hosts or park rangers. No one seems to clean these sites. We didn’t use the showers but they looked fair. We did enjoy the hiking trails that run near the campground. Because of the access and the size of our rig (38 ft fifth wheel) I don’t think I would come back. This place was definitely built for smaller campers. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

I stayed at the West campground which is atop Andrews Ridge. Rather steep, winding road up, but there were some mid-size travel trailers and smaller 5th wheels that made it. The bathrooms and showers were dated but clean. Water pressure isn't the best so I used my internal pump. Most of the larger sites are sloped somewhat. The sites on the outside of the ring are smaller but more level. These sites have a pretty steep drop at their rear. Being on top of the ridge provided solid 4G service on my Verizon smart phone and over the air TV wasn't bad either. The East camping loop has sites that are more level but there are high tension power lines running directly overhead. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Truck Camper.

Tried to stay here, but had to go elsewhere because it could not fit our 40' 5th wheel. Tight winding turns to get there. A good amount of driving just to get to and from the campground. For the brief time I was here Internet via Verizon seemed limited. If you are looking for a secluded park and have a smaller rig it could be a very nice place. Just not the place for us at that time. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Staff was super friendly and restrooms were immaculate. We had a spot close to the restrooms on the West side and they cleaned them 4 times in one day! Gave out free firewood for a donation to Girl Scouts. Had lots of family friendly nature events. Flat sites and other campers observed park rules. Highly recommend. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Tent.

We camped here as an overnight during a visit to friends in Knoxville. We arrived after dark, so we had no idea what the park looked like. The next morning we were pleasantly surprised. The park sites are roomy, the parking pads are paved and in good condition, and the overall condition of the CG was excellent. We want to return to explore the campground more thoroughly in the future. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Truck Camper.

Only primitive camped one night in the older (East) side of this park. Pretty good bit of wildlife walking around. Restroom/shower had a lot of spider webs which indicated that the cleaners were looking down a lot. Very quiet. The TVA Norris Dam is just below. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Tent.

A beautiful Tennessee rural setting. I camped in the newer section. More shade there. Though both are attractive. Sites are level and well maintained. Facilities cleaned daily. Friendly and helpful staff. A playground available for children with swings, sand boxes, etc. Interesting museums nearby. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The park was crowded when we stayed but the sites are adequate. We didn't feel like we were in a parking lot. There are fire rings for most sites. We would have given the park a higher rating if the bathrooms were clean. It didn't seem that daily maintenance was done for three days. (bring your own TP) This park offers many fun activities that are led by the rangers. We liked the bonfire. The local astronomy club gave campers an opportunity to view the stars one night. The playground was wonderful for the kids. Other than the bathrooms being dirty we were very pleased with this state park. We camped at Norris Dam State Park in a Tent Trailer.
