The State Park trails were outstanding and educational and the short canoe tour was enjoyable. We would return for the park itself. However, the campground gets a thumbs-down rating: Asphalt pad, 6" out of level. Ours was dry but there were many swampy campsites, There was a grill, fire ring and a nice table, but the ground was poorly maintained. Gravel patios adjacent to the rv sites would improve the camping experience dramatically. Signage could use improvement. Reserved campers should just pull in, rather than searching for a check in attendant. Overall, not impressed with the campground. It is due for an update. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice, quiet little park. Not a ton to do, but some good hiking and the campground is relaxing with good space between sites and lots of wildlife. The old enclosure area is really interesting. The facilities do need some updating, especially the electrical, as we did experience some low voltage during peak times. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The water hook-up was on one side of the campsite and electrical was on the opposite side but we made it work. Concrete pad but we had to add a few pads to level our RV. Showers were good. A little moldy but we had new shower curtains. Loved the trails and the history of the park. Deer wander the campgrounds. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Motorhome.

Very quiet and easy to get to. Roads inside a bit narrow. Very shady, in fact many sites have moss growing on pads. Pads very narrow. Lots of space between sites. Saw several deer. There is a one lane truss bridge on the way in. Our fifth wheel sits 13-5 and it fit. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Campground is located in a dense forest, with narrow site pads and tight turns. Trees make it difficult to back in. The park could be better maintained. Other than visiting the Old Stone Fort, there is not much to do here. The narrow bridge was easy to navigate, even with our 102" wide RV. We wouldn't come back. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We only spent one night here but it was satisfactory for our needs. Seemed to be a lot of tent campers and families but it was quiet at night. We had a site right across from the restroom and shower. Park could have been maintained a little better, but did see a ranger come by occasionally. As others have stated there is a narrow one lane bridge when you enter the campground but it wasn't a problem. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed only one night because we were passing through. As others mentioned, the sites are a little tight due to trees, but no issue for our 30ft camper and pull vehicle. The park was very clean and beautiful. We saw a family of deer feeding through the campsites in the evening and again in the morning. Restrooms/showers are dated, but very clean. It was very functional and commensurate with other state parks we have stayed in. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stopped here for an overnight. The campground is a series of tight loops in a heavily wooded area. The sites are too small and barely fit MH and toad. Would stay here again if nothing else was available. Have to cross a bridge (just wide enough and tall enough for my MH) to get in or out. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We had reserved online and knew which site was ours but there was never an attendant at the gate even when the office said it would be open. The one lane bridge in was wide enough and tall enough for our 40 foot fifth wheel. Having said that, getting into our space was very difficult. It was long enough but because of trees and signs right at the entry point, it was hard to back in and miss obstacles on both sides. The site was beautiful and well away from other sites. With a few scrub trees cut down, it would open the sites and make it much easier to park. We were on the main road of the camp and found the areas off the main road very difficult to drive because of the closeness of the trees. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very heavily treed park. Restroom/showers not clean, with excessive cobwebs and live spiders and bugs. My girls ran screaming from the building. Roads a bit narrow making backing in a bit of a challenge but we did it. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park was okay. Not too bad... but nothing to great either. We stayed here 5 nights then moved on to Florida. The sites were nice and big, but the restrooms needed updated and cleaned. We loved the park and the trails with various waterfalls. The workers were not very friendly at all. I could see that this would be good for an overnight stop, but staying a week was not what we expected. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Pretty disappointed. Old Stone Fort state park is a beautiful place, however the campground is in serious need of updating. Maybe it's a budget issue? Price reflected winter/senior discount. Note that during the winter there are no shower facilities. Ten minutes to town and shopping. Be careful on the extremely narrow bridge that leads to the campground. Paved roads. Paved, level sites. Some sites were tight, and could be a challenge for big rigs. No problem for our 23' Class C. No wi-fi. Utility connections very old but worked. Dump station available as you leave the campground. Trash cans available throughout the campground. Restrooms serviceable, but old and in need of update. No shower facilities in winter season. No laundry facility. Good cell coverage via AT & T. Those with a satellite dish might not have coverage due to the trees. Given some attention, maintenance and updating, the Old Stone Fort campground could be an awesome place. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Motorhome.

Stopped here for an overnight and a chance to walk around the historic ruins. The campground is a series of tight loops in a heavily wooded area. I don't know how those folks with the fifth wheels and big Class A's managed to stuff themselves In a spot - we had a heck of time parking our little 27' MH into a site. Had to jockey around several sites before we could find one to fit into. It didn't help that other campers park their vehicles in the loop road, as the sites are too small to fit both a trailer and a truck. After managing to get ourselves situated, we checked into the Visitor Center to register. There we encountered the World's Crankiest Ranger. She refused to offer any information about the park, we had to beg for trail maps, and registering was an unpleasant ordeal. Let's hope it will be her day off when you visit.
The park's museum is tiny and bare bones. Most of the historic information can be gleaned from the excellent signage on the loop trail, which points out the significance of the sites. There is a splendid, easy trail that runs alongside the two rivers which surround the hilltop mounds. You can see lovely rapids and waterfalls along the way. Not sure I would visit again though, solely due to the tight campground roads. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a rustic park, but many trees and shade. The bathrooms were older, pretty clean but not maintained while we were there. Also to note, the bathrooms in our camping area were only toilets and sinks, the showers were down the road, not quite as clean and also had bathrooms with them. Unfortunately, we had tent campers behind us that stayed up until 2 AM and talked very loud, so it was difficult sleeping. It was pretty close to the interstate and to enter the campground one had to cross over a one lane bridge. Would have liked to know that in advance! We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Motorhome.

Arrived at dark and left next day so really didn't see much of campground or facilities. Rate at TN state parks is good but as stated prior, parks appear to suffer from lack of needed repairs and updates likely from lack of funds from state. Online reservation site set up few years ago is wonderful and should help their occupancy rates, I hope. Staff was friendly, park was adequate. Lacked needed signage for directions getting there. We camped at Old Stone Fort State Park in a Travel Trailer.
