This is a really nice TVA campground on Douglas Lake, similar to a Corps of Engineers campground. Gravel sites are mostly back-in, there are some long pull-throughs. Sites are roomy, mostly level, with shade and grass; many sites have lake views. There is a boat launch, swim beach, hiking trail, neatly mowed grass areas, and a camp store that sells soft-serve ice cream. This campground is a short drive from Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, etc.; yet is a quiet getaway from all the traffic mess. The only negative is the dump station; which is set up to dump on the way in, rather than the way out; making the sharp turn was difficult for our big rig. Other than that, this is a great campground; we would definitely stay again. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Douglas Tailwater Campground, just a short distance away, below the dam, looked equally nice. It had fishing access along the river bank, some even handicapped accessible.

We really liked this campground which is located right at the dam with great access and views. There is also a Tailwaters campground below the dam. We didn't get a chance to check it out. This is a TVA campground, very similar to a Corps of Engineers campground which are favorites of ours. The campsites have water and 50 amp hookups. Many of the campsites are large enough for most any camper. We were in a pull through site on the hill overlooking the lake. The only negative was that the site sloped left to right. There are also several beautiful back in sites down close to the water - I'd likely try to get one of those on future trips. Not all sites on the hill will accomodate all rigs, so be sure to pay attention when booking your site. Aside from size, we thought we would have been happy in most any of the spots we could fit into. I had no problem getting a satellite signal and our Verizon 4G was good. We think this campground is a real winner and will happily return on future visits to this beautiful area. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

This camp is run by the TVA, and national authority similar to the Corp of Engineers (COE). The spaces are wide and shady. Trees are trimmed so, there we had no trouble with our 40' big rig. This camp does not have sewers, but there is a newer TVA park on the same lake that is more expensive and does have sewers. They have a service that will come to your site to empty your gray and black tanks for $20. The dump station is positioned oddly, and might cause a long line on Sunday when many are leaving. Because of the trees, getting a signal on our DISH was difficult but not impossible. This location is not too far from Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Great Smoky National Park. Because it is so close to attractions, you will probably need advance reservations to stay at this park. A swimming, fishing and picnic zone was at the end of the RV park with parking for day visitors. Some walked through the RV park out of curiosity, but it was not a safety concern for us. Bathroom/shower buildings are shared with day visitors, and therefore get a great deal of traffic. Our AT&T signal was good. Interior were roads good. Water and electric location at each campsite seemed good. Camp hosts were friendly even though their signs all said, "Off duty" the whole time we were there. Camp was quiet and clean. We did Navy showers in our RV, and did not use public bathrooms/showers though they appeared clean when we looked in. We definitely would stay here again. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

This is another TVA campground and is very well maintained and clean. Park rangers are constanly patrolling the campground and will stop by from time to time to say hello and ask if there is anything they can do to ensure you have a pleasant stay. The waterfront sites are level except there are slight declines to the actual camping spot. These declines are nothing to worry. Saw several class A rigs at sites along the lake. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Lovely location overlooking large lake. Small swimming and day-use area, as well as a huge boat ramp and parking lot. Many sites have a lake view and some border the water (those cost an extra $2.00). All sites are E/W, have gravel pads, and some have concrete patios under picnic table and fire ring. Most sites will need some degree of leveling and some are very small, so if possible explore your choices before you select one. Over-the-air TV and Verizon signals are both good. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The dump station is set up backwards, which must make crowded dump-days a nightmare. You enter from the direction of entering the park, not leaving, and there is not a lot of room for long lines of rigs to maneuver through the area. If possible, dump at a non-busy time. Like CoE parks, TVA parks have a free online reservation system. If you do not have a reservation, though, the camp hosts are very helpful and will assist.

The campground is on the side of a hill overlooking a lake. Back-in sites are quite large and spaced out really well. The pull through sites were wide, but short, so if you have a large rig, check the length before reserving a pull through. The back-in sites were long enough for almost any rig to fit. Hosts were helpful finding our site and getting backed into it. We had good Verizon MiFi, AT&T cell coverage and Dish satellite at this location. There is only one dump station which meant a big line on Sunday when everyone tried to leave. Better to leave in the afternoon and avoid the crowd. Rate reflects our Senior Pass Discount. We loved this park and the view. Our site was right on the water at the end of the road and was very large with lots of room. It was quiet at night and the hosts were all friendly and helpful. The only real complaint was one shower in the bathhouse for each sex but we showered late at night and never had to wait. We can hardly wait to return to this wonderful park. Also TVA made all the sites 50 amp so you need to get an adapter from the host if you are a 30 amp. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Very large sites with water & electric. Some with sewer. All with fire pits. Large grassy areas between sites. Many by the water and all have view of lake. Good amount of trees for some shade. Some more shadier, others more open. Most sites level. Some on hill, other down hill by lake. Tent allowed on RV sites. No wifi, but good Verizon 4g data at 2 to 4 bars depending on area of park. Very friendly and helpful camphosts. Very organized and maintained park. Roads paved and large. Quiet at night. Rates 13 tent, 18 RV non-electric, 25 RV water/electric, 27 RV water/electric on the water. 21 day stay. Reservations or call/drive in to see what's available. Weekends busy. Beautiful lake with smoky mtns in the background. Lots of fishing, bird watching, kayaking, boats. A few trails up on hill above campground. Stores very nearby. Roads curvy outside campground. Tips for other Campers:

Douglas lake tailwaters (below dam) campground is another place to stay if this one is full. Both parks are managed by the same agency and are a few minutes from each other. Smoky mtns about 45 to hr away. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are closer. Rates at both douglas lake campgrounds (headwaters and tailwaters) are much less expensive than many surrounding campgrounds, and easier to get to from the hwy.

This campground is located just northeast of Sevierville, approx. 3-5 miles from I-40. Signs were posted and easy to follow. Campground has 3 hosts that rotate days on. Check in was simple (had reservations). Had 19 reserved, but when we arrived noticed that 2 sites butted up to each other. They gladly moved us to a pullthru. Sites were gravel and concrete pad. However, depending how your site is laid out and how you pull into your site the concrete pad ended up under our camper. That was not a problem, just helped when putting the jacks down. The leaves were falling during our stay and the hosts blowed the leaves from the roadway and the campsites daily. Campground was spotless and nicely mowed. There are 3 bathrooms/showers in the campground. One bathhouse is individual so you can lock the door, it is an all in one type (toilet, shower and sink). Showers were hot. Only negative was they are the push button type, but not a big deal to me. The hosts said they had to go to this type due to people leaving the showers running. Beautiful view of the lake at most of the sites. There are two loops. One section has a lower section where the sites are right on the lake. These sites are sloped then level off. Check the website and it describes each site. It is a 10-20 minute drive into Sevierville/Pigeon Forge depending on traffic. The road in from the campground is a little curvy but nothing major. We will diffently will return to this campground. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

We camped here for a group camping trip with other members of our camping club. Upon arrival, we had a hard time deciding which direction to head since there was no signage indication which way to go to our reserved site. We had reserved a pull-thru site and it was of good size, but we were way out of level side to side. We pulled back around and were able to set up, but it did require us to use 1 1/2" of wood to get somewhat close to level. The hosts (4 different campers onsite) were quick to arrive and get us checked in and given our paperwork. There were two bath houses close to our site, one up the incline and one down in the day-use area. We had a huge tree over our site, which was wonderful. Our site was very large with a small concrete pad, but it was nowhere close to level. It offers water/electric. If the sites in front of us were not full, we would have had a great view of the lake. The hosts were out and about from early morning until late in the evening, although they did go "off duty" at 7 pm. We saw them out on their golf carts until almost 11 pm, so they may have gone off-duty, but were still working some. The campground was completely full, but was quiet after quiet hours. The bathrooms were cleaned daily, but during the times when the day use areas are in full use, they have the potential to become really dirty. This was not the case this weekend. There needs to be more signage and the dump station is located on the wrong side of the road when you are leaving??? You have to pass it up, then turn back into the dump to get the workings on the right side. We really liked the campground and will definitely return soon. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

The check in here is so simple. Just pull in and check and see if there is a site you like and pull into it. The Host will come and check you in. The sites range from very unlevel to somewhat level. I'd say about 50% of them would not accommodate a class C RV. Each site contained a picnic table, a fire ring, and most had some sort of concrete pad. About 90% of the sites had water and electricity. The overall campground had plenty of trees: however, there were plenty of sites without trees. The bathhouses were very clean. The overall campground was incredibly clean too. Thankfully the grass and landscaping was extraordinarily well done too. The dam was a site to see. There were a few overlooks that were great! The location of this campground was super! It was only about 4-5 miles away from several grocery stores and about 5 miles from a major flea market. Lastly the other facilities at this place were top notch too such as the swimming area, boat launch, and the ability to have your boat very near your site. We were only about 50 foot from the waters edge. We are coming back to this campground. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

Stayed here one night as an overnight on our way to South Carolina. First come first serve and we happened to get the last site with electric and water that was open. Nice setting, shade, close to the water. Mosquitoes were pretty thick at dusk, but all in all a nice site. I do think people are putting cheap tents on some sites to make other people think someone is already camping at the site. I saw at least 4 sites that were set up this way with nobody around. Restrooms were clean, did not use the showers. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Friday, June 21 – Douglas Reservoir – Douglas Dam Headwater Campground, Sevierville, TN This is a TVA self-service campground. Sixty five campsites and 61 with water and electric hookups. We checked in on a Friday afternoon. First, we had gone down the road to another TVA campground Douglas Dam Tailwater Campground but there was nothing available. Some sites at these TVA campgrounds almost looked like permanents. So we headed back up the road and checked this one out. When we crossed the highway we could see the campground just below the dam and it looked like it was full. We decided to drive down and check it out and we found a small site that we could have fit in but a large RV was at the dump station and had just left a nice site right on the river with hookups. So we stayed the night with a nice view of the dam and downstream. We were lucky to get a spot. It is a self check in campground so we had to fill out the form and put cash in the envelope to put in the box. With a Golden Age pass, the $22 per site was 50% off to make it $11. Nice stop, but we were in driving range of interstate 40, Pigeon Forge and Smokey Mts National Park that the traffic on the highways was busy so I don’t know if we would ever stop again. This is a tourist area and very crowded. The campground was full but it was very enjoyable and peaceful. The restrooms had heated showers and flush toilets. There was a dump station, picnic tables, boat ramp, walking trail, wildlife viewing area, bird watching and a swimming beach (I don’t know about swimming in the river because we found a lot of trash and dead fish in it right in front of our site). We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

The previous poster pretty much nailed it. For the most part the sites have plenty of space between them with the exception of the lake front spots. Most of the sites are level enough for a trailer or fifth wheel, but motor homes might have to use some blocks under their jacks to get completely level. Our biggest complaint was the quality of the electricity. It was real easy to pull the voltage down into the 105 to 108 range when loading it with 20 plus amps. I would be concerned about trying to use an air conditioner at this campground. We had one of the lake front sites. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Motorhome.

A Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) clean, neat, campground on Douglas Lake impounding the French Broad River, the camp off to the north of the dam with electric power generation. Paved roads, with nicely graveled sites, but most not level, with water and 30 and 20 amp electricity, a dump station, and clean bath house with shower. Huge boat ramp and parking right by campground. Many ducks and gray herons to view. Great view of the huge lake. With a Golden Passport the $22/day reduces to $11, a real bargain. There is also a Tailwater section below the dam with 62 more level sites. We camped at Douglas Headwater Campgrounds in a Motorhome.
