What a lovely TVA campground on the French Broad River just below Douglas Dam. Our site #17 was right on the river, just two steps to fishing and was spotless, level, quiet and spacious. The dam would sound a siren just before opening the gates each morning and the river would fill back up. So cool to watch it rise. Camp hosts were very friendly and attentive. Facilities clean and well maintained. We used this campground as a base to visit the Smokey Mountains (very crowded this time of year) and some birding at Seven Islands Park. There were no real hiking trails on campus but we were still able to get some good walks in with the dogs. We very much enjoyed our stay here and would return. We camped at Douglas Tailwater Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Very busy campground 80+% full our entire stay. The host are friendly and always out on the golf carts making the rounds. The campground is spotless (they will be cleaning a campsite less than 10 minutes after someone leaves). Mostly level and long enough for most RVs. Water & 30 amp power (we didn't see any 50 amp). The bathrooms are cleaned in the mornings and are dirtier as the day progresses (spider webs and bugs mostly). The dump station is on the wrong side of the drive so it is entertaining watching people try to maneuver into place to use it (obviously not designed by an RVer). The dumpster was overflowing on Saturday around noon & wasn't emptied until Wednesday & a 2nd dumpster located about 5 feet away had a sign saying that it was " CLOSED FOR THE SEASON". If the bathrooms & the trash were as good as the campground maintenance it would be 10 stars. The "GUN RANGE" was used one day by law enforcement during the 17 days that we were here (silent the other 16 days). Very popular fishing spot just 30 feet from our campsite. Several nice fish were caught here from the bank Les. We camped at Douglas Tailwater Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The park is beautiful and well maintained. Most sites are level but some near the river are not and because of the slope are unsuitable for a motorhome or large camper. Water and 30 amp power worked as expected and the dump station and trash dumpsters are easily accessed. However, the low campground cost apparently attracts some unsavory people and visits by the police were common during our stay, and a nearby camper appeared to be "on something". That made us uncomfortable due to the violence and theft that often accompanies this. Traffic through the campground was frequent and usually above the posted speed. We were initially impressed with the beauty of this campground but with all the drawbacks I doubt we'll return. We camped at Douglas Tailwater Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This campground is a TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) project that is well maintained and clean. Each site has water and electric 50/30 amp. Very few sites have sewer hook-up mostly your handicap sites. Campground does have a dump station. Campground is located approximately one mile downstream of the hydro-electric Douglas Dam. Many of the sites are directly on the river created by the dam. Good fishing. We will visit this campground again on our travels in Tennessee. We camped at Douglas Tailwater Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The entire campground was mostly level. Each site had a nice picnic table, water, and electric service. Our site was mostly level and was just a stones toss to the bathhouse. The bathhouse was clean and very serviceable. The entire campground was clean and well kept. The staff here were very friendly and made our short stay very enjoyable. The playground area was nice and you could go fishing right outside your camper if you were on the water. There was a boat launch just a few yards away and plenty of bathrooms. We stayed in site #12. There were no trees in our site. However, there were some trees in other sites. There was no WiFi and no pool. Overall this campground rocks! We camped at Douglas Tailwater Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This park is a hidden gem located about ten miles from the hustle and bustle of the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg tourist destination. The Tennessee Valley Authority runs this park, which is located directly on the river below the Douglas Lake dam, and the Headwaters park, which is on Douglas Lake. The Headwaters has a beautiful overview of the lake, while Tailwaters provides the opportunity to camp right on the bank of the clear, fast moving river. As expected with a public park, there is electricity (30 amp. and some 50 amp service), water, but no sewer. The dump station is located on the wrong side of the roadway going out, so a looping around is necessary. Most grass/limestone pads were pretty level at the Tailwater, Headwaters had a number that were not so level. There are two bath houses in easy walking distance of any site. They were clean. This is a true campground, in there are no swimming pools or other recreation for the kids. That didn't seem to be an issue for the kids that were there as they enjoyed riding their bikes and fishing. Cell service for AT&T and Verizon was relatively reliable. There is no Internet. Take the Sevierville exit from I-40, go about a mile to the first traffic light and turn left. Follow that road (Hwy. 139) for a few miles to the Douglas Dam road. Take a right and stay right to the entrance. The office and small camp store are on the right. The camp hosts were extremely nice and helpful. We loved this beautiful park and will be returning. We camped at Douglas Tailwater Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

CG stretched out along broad tailwater strong outflow of Douglas high dam from power house. Beautiful views. Paved cg road. CG sites packed gravel of some good size but most are variably unlevel many needing lots of leveling. Sites of variable shape and orientations. Some stream side, and others on hill side. Bath house is new, modern and very clean with hot shower. Host were nice. TVA has a rule that motorhomes and trailers most face away from stream side, apparently in case of heavy water release flooding vehicles could more quickly get out of cg. There are some tent sites. Small playground. Entry road leads up to dam with walkways. Nice views. We camped at Douglas Tailwater Campground in a Motorhome.
