12 Parks near Sparta, Tennessee
Oct 2014 - $24.00
I'm writing the kind of site specific review I would find helpful...hope it helps someone! Lakefront sites are close together but there are a few gem spots. #11 and 12 are close together, but are great if you're with friends; they share a little path down to the water. #15 is great because it has a path to the water and at the end of the RV sites so no there's no close neighbor on one side. #9 is great for the same reason, you have some rocks to get down to the water but not so on top of your neighbors and great view. #19 has a great view of the water but no direct access. If you have kids it's great because the playground (which is really nice) is right in your backyard. The bathrooms were clean and the attendants were the nicest around. Burgess Falls is a quick 20 minute drive away and absolutely beautiful; take the hike all the way down to the bottom. We did it with our 4&5 year olds in tow, it's not difficult. This is one of my favourite campgrounds. - mamabird73
Sep 2013 - $11.00
Price is senior pass. This is a beautiful well maintained clean COE campground. The gate attendants & camp host were all very nice & friendly & you could tell they enjoyed being there. Campers were also very friendly. The restrooms/showers were old but very clean. We would stay here again. - stella fouche
May 2011 - $11.00
Nice park with W+S+E and a large concrete pull through. Great host and the park was very clean. Nice place for 3 or 4 nights. Would prefer the water front back in sites even though they have no sewer, but they were flooded during our stay. - joemama
Mar 2016 - $17.00
We initially reserved site 37 and for our 37 ft motorhome. There was no way to safely get it level. After calling the office to request a change, we moved to site number 1 and loved it. Site 37 would probably be fine for a small towable RV. You'll want to avoid it for anything of significant length. The layout of the campground is nice. There are just a few sites with sewer hookups. There are a few sites with inclines, some level. Wireless is great. The park itself is lovely and easy to access. Hiking trails provide lovely views and are well maintained. We saw several people tent camping in nice sites. Will definitely camp here again. - Donna and Steve
Nov 2015 - $22.00
Loved this campground! Beautiful place. Stayed here three nights while visiting family in McMinnville. Fifteen minutes to town and shopping. Be careful on the narrow, winding roads that lead to the park. Groups of deer were wandering just off the roadway. Paved roads. Paved sites. Some sites were tight, and could be a challenge for big rigs. No problem for our 23' Class C. Great wi-fi signal. Utility connections new and worked perfectly. Two-lane dump station, however one lane was closed for the winter season. Trash collection next to the dump station. Restrooms and showers among the cleanest we've seen. Laundry facility worked fine. $1.00 for washer and $1.00 for dryer. Decent cell coverage via AT & T. Only downside is virtually no television reception. Three channels, no major networks. Those with a satellite dish might not have coverage either due to the trees. But it's all good. Turn off the television and get out to enjoy this awesome state park. We'll be back again for sure. - tomnorman457
Sep 2015 - $22.00
Really nice campground. Roads and sites are all paved asphalt. The park recently upgraded their facilities so all the sites are nice. Be careful when reserving a site, there are a lot of really short or narrow sites and several drop off at the back so you may not be able to get your jacks down if you don't size right. Luckily, the site lengths are listed on the website. We stayed on site 39 with a 36' TT, it was a tight fit, but we managed to get it in there. The offset concrete patio was nice with a new picnic table, fire ring with grill attachment, and charcoal grill. Verizon service was nearly non existent(could barely even make a call, and no data service at all) and the CG wifi was poor to non existent as well. A Basketball and tennis court are across the street from the cg and there is a playground in the center with a pavilion and volleyball court as well. There is a sand beach in the park but not within walking distance from the cg. If you enjoy being outside and watching / listening to nature while you relax (which I do), this is the place for you, absolutely, do not miss it! Make sure to check out all the waterfalls and such when you visit, very cool stuff. we will return in the future. - James S21
Jul 2011 - $30.00
We have stayed in all sorts of campgrounds around the US and generally are not very picky. That said, this is the worst campground we have ever seen. We drove in and out within an hour. The drive in is very difficult. We spoke with the owner several times, explaining at we had a 35' class A, and she assured us this was no problem. The roads in are very narrow and hilly with many blind curves. The entrance to the park is extremely steep and narrow, with a sharp drop on one side. We have driven our RV through mountains and snow in Colorado (ex. Breckenridge) and California (ex. Cobb Mountain), so we are very used to hills. However, the entrance to this park was almost impossible, and would have been impossible with a less experienced driver. Once we parked, we found that the hookups were at the back of the sites and very far away. Power was 50' away from the RV and water was at least the same distance. While we were attempting to set up, we let the kids go to the playground. We quickly learned that there were wasp nests in the playground equipment, when our 4 year old was stung. Overall the entire park was very run down. No sites appeared to be level. This is probably an OK park if you are just looking for somewhere quiet to fish in your tent and don't want any amenities, but this is not a place for a nice RV or family vacation. - Cocoabeachfam
Jan 2013 - $25.00
Great little quiet park with a dozen RV sites on the hill, that gets great cell phone and air card reception. Tents sites down by the boat ramp on the river (no hookups at tent sites). The owners are wonderful people who keep everything nice, neat, and clean (no derelict trailers). Clean bathhouse with small kitchen for use during gatherings in the pavilion. All sites have fire rings and picnic tables. Great safe place for a long term stay or a quiet weekend of camping, fishing and boating. Playground for the kids. Only drawback is the 1/2 mile gravel road that is fairly hilly...we had no trouble getting in though...would highly recommend! Admin note: Park is seven miles north of McMinnville in Rock Island a non-existent town. - kakampers
Jul 2015 - $24.00
Very pretty campground. We got a lot with a great view of the water (35) although there are many.
Bathrooms were dated but very clean.
The lake was gorgeous!
Some spaces were close...and some might have been a challenge to novice campers.
We will be back when we are in the area! - Campingjunky
May 2014 - $24.00
Very nice corp of engineers park on a large lake. Sites are oddly situated and some of the roads are a bit tight to navigate but overall a very nice park. RV sites are all paved / cement and have great electric and water hookups. 2 dump stations are available in the park. Verizon phone and data signal available but not super fast (3G). - AirstreamSJ
Aug 2011 - $24.00
This is a great campground located on beautiful Center Hill Lake. We have camped here several times and will frequent it many times in the future. - hawgtitan
Jul 2015 - $30.00
Not for couples with children. No slide, swing or pool. Lots of traffic through the site to get to the on location restaurant. I would not feel safe letting my kids outside alone. - Bdavis2900
Mar 2015 - $16.00
Great value and a nice quiet country setting. The owner is very nice. Not sure why another reviewer would rate the park unfavorably, but some can be difficult to please. We stayed in 43' rig. - Dngreen51
Sep 2014 - $30.00
After staying here before,I decided to give it another try. I needed to order several items online, and they will ship to this park.It was a big mistake,as it's worse now than it was on the previous stay.
This is a poorly run, overpriced gravel parking lot. The owners live next door, but they are rarely in the park. The daily rate is an outrageous 30.00 a day and there are no amenities. Just a dusty gravel lot.
While staying here I also encountered damage by the young kids mowing,I told him on 3 different occasions they were throwing rocks with their gas powered weed trimmers while they were trimming the grass in the gravel all around every site, one of the employees was using one that didn't even have a guard on it. My camper and car were damaged. Never even got as much as an I'm sorry from anyone there after telling them and the so-called manager. A few days later another person got their drivers window broken out by rocks from the mowers.
The owners and employees have absolutely no regard for other peoples property.
Also had a brand new sewer hose that they put holes in with their weed trimmers.
They have minimal rules posted in small print in the office, but none are enforced.I also had a very rude and noisy neighbor that started his old dodge diesel work truck up at 5:00 am every morning just a few feet from my camper, then letting it idle for 30 minutes before leaving for work, when I complained several times, nothing was done and I was told I could move.
There are no amenities included in the price. Their is a restaurant, I was advised by other people staying in the campground that it had terrible food and service,so I didn't try it based on that advice.
There are some pull through sites with 50a,and some 30a back ins,all are the same rate. The sewer and water hookups are very close together, the water hookup is underground just inches from the sewer hookup.
There is also a pay fishing lake that's not included in the rates, they charge extra for it.
They have wifi, but it's very slow. I used verizon aircard, only got 1 bar had to use my wilson amp and external antenna.
No showers here, just a small restroom at the restaurant.
Would never stay there again, there are other places nearby including several coe parks with amenities that are much cheaper.
Rates are 30.00 daily,200.00 weekly,500.00 monthly. - 58fulltimer
Mar 2016 - $34.00
The campground looks like maybe it has new owners who are trying to turn it around. There is still a lot of work to be done. When we first arrived, we almost asked for a refund and left. The site that we chose was nowhere near large enough for our setup and the CG has some tight spots to maneuver in. However, the employees here did a great job in trying to ensure we had an enjoyable weekend. The site we were moved to was nice 50/30A FHU site with no issues whatsoever. They also have a lake for fishing. A pool, which was not open yet, is on the grounds and looks to be very well maintained. The basketball / tennis court was nice, but the hoops had some issues that need immediate attention. outdated sandbox and a shuffleboard / horseshoes area. We did not use the bathrooms so I cannot comment on those. Verizon service was great. All in all, we had a good weekend sitting by the fire as a family, and in the end, that's what this is all about. If you're looking for a decent place to get away, this is a good spot. If you're looking for resort quality camping, you might want to move along down the road. - James S21
Mar 2016 - $34.00
This park has a lot of trees, in fact it is like a village in the woods. The Wilderness Lodge is made from logs and has a restaurant, large television and games area for children all in the same large room and the owners live on the two floors above this area. The owners guide you to your campsite and they are friendly, nice people who will do anything to make your stay a great experience. The resort has a wonderful large, sunken, rectangular hot tub in a special building, a wood-heated salt water swimming pool and a lake with catch & release fishing. They have very nice log cabins. There are many activities during summer weekends like barbeques, fish frys, movies and wagon rides. It is dog friendly. It is close to the interstate but does not have traffic noise and is very peaceful. They have 50 full hookup RV sites. If you do not like a rustic campground with log buildings and many trees, you will not like this campground. If you are trying to have a wilderness escape, you will love it. - Lini
Sep 2016 - $25.00
Lovely park with several camping areas to choose from. Lots of deer, some lovely scenic views and nice hiking. The Nature center was not all that great- I have seen better, and the lady working there was not very welcoming, but I can get over that sort of thing. I enjoyed crossing the stream s on the suspension bridges. Our site was asphalt- but very unlevel and water drained to it. There are lots of sites to choose from, though- I can't remember what the number was that we were on, but it did have full hookups. The park itself is beautiful with a nice swimming area, lots of activity and gathering spaces, a marina, etc. We could only stay one night as we were traveling thru- but I would love to go back when we have more time. - Doxie Mom
Jul 2016 - $25.00
This park is wonderful for families with children. Lots of things for the kids to do. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. A great place for a family vacation. - Marsha Smeltzer
Jun 2016 - $23.00
My kids (10,6) and I tent camped here for one night and hiked the Fall Creek Falls trail the next day. We stayed in loop A near the open green space (+playground & a volleyball) which was great because there were a bunch of kids running around. The bathhouse was older but clean. Everyone adhered to quiet hours. We did not have a chance to use the pool or visit the gift shop. We will be back for a longer stay in the future. - Art Copeland
Mar 2016 - $15.00
What a little gem this city park is! Great staff, beautiful lakeside location, spotless bathhouse....all for a very reasonable price. There are 8 RV sites with W/E(20/30/50A) hookups and 5 tent sites with water-only hookups. Sites are open, but there are some trees for summer shade. Fishing is the main pastime here. There is a boat launch and marina.
The only thing I can find here that is a problem is that sites are very unlevel - even with levelers on our rig, it took nearly all my blocks to get us fairly level. - WxToad
Mar 2016 - $25.00
All sites will accommodate campers up to 30 feet, a few sites go up to 35, and only 4 are sized for 40 feet. Our travel trailer is 28 feet and we fit comfortably in a 35 foot site but parked our truck next to the camper. Restrooms are a little older but very clean and well maintained. The sites are platforms - tight for big trailers, but worth the views. Some of the smaller sites only have utilities on the left side (drivers side if backing in), so make sure you have extension cords and long hoses. The staff is very friendly. Fly fishing info and supplies at a store at the park entrance. This is a boater's park. Weekends book up, but rangers said it's quiet and easy during the week. Can be busy and noisy on holiday weekends. - bbpqiggy
Jun 2015 - $25.00
Pretty park. VERY unique sites, ours was built on a thick |wooden| platform (supported by huge steel beams and concrete columns) sticking out over a bluff above the lake; super-strong, held our 38' motorhome. Properly placed hookups, our site actually had water spigot on both sides. Limited car parking at site. Spaces are size-limited, most no more than 28' but our site (#39) was long enough for at least a 40'. Check reservation site closely and choose the correct one. Clean bathhouse, nice views of lake, partial shade, playground, boat ramp, open year round, park wifi, good cell signal on ATT and Verizon. Great state park ranger / law enforcement patrol (saw them around 24/7, thanks guys!). We would def stay here again.
Caution = place is HILLY. Very steep driving in/out of campground, unhook toad at the office if not before. - TheGrandMan
Oct 2014 - $15.00
A quiet and beautiful camp. We stayed in campsite 39. It was level and water and electric are conveniently located. The camping platforms are unusual but are flat and afford beautiful views. WiFi is available but really slow. No Verizon service. We look forward to another stay. - Raptor 7
