This is a resort town so you have to compromise a bit on RV parks. They are packed in tight. However, this place was neat as a pin, the owners were onsite and visible throughout our stay. Sites are narrow with the exception of ones on the western edge. We stayed two nights "creekside" which is a description that's being used liberally. There's a public road eight feet from our site that locals used at 25 to 45 MPH. The speed bumps did little to slow them down. The creek is just beyond that road. For two more nights, we stayed at an interior site. These are narrower than the creekside, but still enough room for slides and awning. All hookups were in good condition. Wifi was usable on a Thursday, but the weekend wiped out any possible connection. Verizon worked pretty well here. The location is 5-10 minutes from the Townsend entrance to the Smokies. It's also just off Wears Valley Road if you'd like to bypass around Gatlinburg to visit the other side of the park. If you'd like to tube the river, there are two tubing places within walking distance of Big Meadow. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We chose a river site with only 30 amps and we were just fine with that. It has a view of the river with a small residential road between you and the river. The grounds are kept beautifully. The staff was good to deal with. It is a very well run park and it served us for 5 nights. Close to Cades Cove. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We were here with our RV club with 28 rigs. Staff is very friendly, helped us back in. We had a BBQ Kentucky Derby Party and used their meeting room which was excellent. We were able to bring TVs to watch the race. They have a very nice, clean dog park. We were in Site#2, across road from the river which is very nice. This is our 2nd stay here. WI-FI was strong when we first got there through Saturday. It slowed a bit, but it was better than most places. The grounds are neat and clean. Unfortunately, it rained every day, but still plenty to do. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Great Smoky Mountains, festivals, nice winery for wine tasting, very nice long bike greenway. Restaurants nearby, can walk/bike. Fellow RVers saw a black bear and a fox in Cade's Cove. Ate at Monte Real Grill (Mexican), was delicious. River Rat next to float on the river. Too cold to float in May, but we've done it twice, once with kids and the other with adults A very nice stay!!

Great facility and service! The access to the river was ideal. The playground and splash area worked great for my grandkids. We enjoyed the nightly campfire for the guests. The convenience of the dog park was nice. The downside was tight sites and the lack of trees. The scenery around us was gorgeous, which helped some. We camped with a 31' travel trailer with slides on both sides. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

We have camped in parks all over the US and some in Canada. Big Meadow is simply the best. We love the park and the owners are amazingly friendly and nice. The park has spacious sites and the grounds are well kept. It's peaceful and quiet and the owners take great care in keeping it that way. They are centrally located for motorcyclists as well, with the Tail of the Dragon and other excellent roads just a few minutes away. You will not be disappointed with a stay at Big Meadow! While this cost more than we would normally pay for a campsite, the extra cost was worth it. They have internet that actually functions which saved us money on our Verizon Jetpack. The sites are spacious and several have a concrete pad. They are placed so that you are not looking in your neighbors window and you have a sense of privacy. The staff is very helpful and I would recommend if you are coming to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area and what to get away from the crowds. It is definitely the quiet side. Great place to stay. Anytime we are near we make time to spend a few days here. The owners are terrific and the facilities are to our liking. May seem a little pricey but the super sites are concrete, level and just super. We like it peaceful and this fits the bill. It tends to be more adult than some. We stayed here for a week in October during the Fall peak tourist season in the Smoky Mountains. We had called at the last minute and gotten a premium site due to a cancellation. The site was nice and you had "space" in an otherwise full campground. No discounts available during the Fall so pretty pricey, but it is a very nice campground. They do close the gates from midnight to 7:00am, which is a little irritating since a lot of the sights are best viewed early in the morning near sunrise. Also our EMS tripped several times due to low voltage on one of the 50 amp legs so beware especially if you don't have a low voltage monitor. The site was level and concrete along with the patio area. We would stay here again given the opportunity. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

This was a very well managed campground. It's gated at night and during the day and there's usually someone at the office on the porch as well. The bathrooms and showers were so clean and nice. They had laundry as well. We stayed on the river side where the spots are a little short and it is right next to the exit/entrance with a road on the other side by the river. But it was scenic! It was also really convenient to the bathrooms and trash. We have a decent size pad but to park and not stick out in the road we had to back in at an angle. The guy who checked us in offered to back us in which we didn't accept, and by the time I was finished checking in, my husband had been directed to back in a way he wasn't comfortable with that for him and his truck made things harder. We back into a super tight spot at home all the time, so I know had he been allowed to back in the way he knew would be best for his truck and trailer it would have been easier. However if you don't feel comfortable backing in know that they are willing to help you out! They also confirmed our reservation via email and with a phone call a few days before we were scheduled to arrive and I called for help with the best route from Asheville to Townsend and they were helpful. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The park could not be in a better spot. It's away from the touristy areas, about 20 min to Maryville, 30 min to Gatlinburg, and 10-15 min to Cade's Cove. The foothills parkway was about 10 min away as well. It was an hour drive to newfound gap and clingmans dome.

Very professional employees/hosts. NICE laundromat, bathrooms, and showers. I chose this park because of the security and I was very pleased. Sites are pretty close together, but smooth and level. There is a variety of site types - some concrete, some gravel, but almost 100% pull-throughs. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Just a few miles from Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance. Good restaurants in town, but can't walk or bike to them without getting on the busy highway for about 200yds. EXCELLENT bicycle trail the full length of Townsend, with access to everything.

Our stay here was good. Big Meadows was very clean and well maintained. The turns in and out of the aisles are a little tight for a 45 footer. This is the only reason for the 9. The proximity to The Smoky's & Pigeon Forge is excellent. It's close enough to be handy and far enough to be on the quiet side. Everyone was friendly and nice, the staff was always out working making the place look good.

Beware, if you are out past curfew, the gates lock and you have to park outside and walk in. It's a little weird being locked out of the place if you are not back before curfew, but we're not out after midnight anyway.

Will definitely stay here again. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Arrived on Friday, departed on Sunday for a 2 day stay. It is not a large campground although was clean and orderly. Rules and regulations are strictly enforced. Must have a pass code to enter--very secure. Extra auto costs $3.00 extra per day. Campground is adjoining "River Rat" tubing and hundreds of people take advantage of the river tubing-especially on hot days. Therefore, during warm months, expect lots of people-particularly on the weekend. I recommend going through the week, if possible. Townsend is a very quiet town with not many things to do for entertainment; therefore, I suggest using this campground for R&R through the week if that's what you are looking for. There is no swimming pool -- just a kids small sand playground and wading playground. No tents allowed. Owners were nice and kept the grounds clean and welcoming. An ideal place for a couple looking for R&R or if you have kids and you like river tubing. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Pigeon Forge, TN is approx. 17 miles from Townsend--Gatlinburg, TN a bit further. A narrow, extremely winding, mountain road connects Pigeon Forge and Townsend. I would NOT take a large/long RV on this road - very treacherous! Several good hometown restaurants and a couple of family activities. Otherwise, a very quiet, relaxed town nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains -- extremely scenic.

We booked this campground as we left Gatlinburg last July 4th weekend. Rates were $55/night. We arrived and were told, rates are $57/night this year and were charged the current rate, not a big deal. We chose this one as they were the only ones with a 3 day minimum compared to a 4 day (due to how the 4th fell) and we wanted to try staying on the "quiet side". My wife is Air Force Reserves and was on orders that got screwed up causing us to be delayed a day arriving. We called and they reminded us of the 3 day minimum. We were with another party on an adjoining site. They called and told us that they rented our site out the night we were not there. When we arrived they only charged us for two day (thankfully) but played off having rented that site the night before. Also upon arrival a male employee pointed to us and pointed to a spot on the pavement where he wanted us to stop. We did and he turned and walked off without saying anything. I tried to make small talk with him on another occasion and he just glared. It wasn't until checking out that he was friendly and waved. Also be prepared they are strict with the gate times. If you don't make it back by "curfew" you have to park your car outside the campground and walk in. I find this odd since you have to have a gate code to get in. Why can't they just allow the gate code to work all the time? It's not that there is just anything really "wrong", there are just many choices in this area that do a better job. The best draw for this campground is the tube rental joint next door. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.
