We stayed in a back in site next to the road. Traffic is present at all hours of the day/night with speed bumps doing little to slow the traffic down. We had to reposition our TT to use the bumper mounted grill. A bit unnerving to have a car pass by you within 4ft while flipping a burger. The sites are slightly elevated but traffic noise is present. The back in sites next to the road are not very long. Our 30ft TT and TV barely fit. Our slideout encroached on the agjacent site, narrow site. Clean area, children's splash pad, playground and dog area. Sunday service provided and a short walk to River Rat tube company. Enjoyable stay, will return and book a pull thru next time. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Eat at Burgermaster, a must stop in Townsend! Cades Cove is only 15mins for here. River Rat tubing is a short walk and worth a day. Be careful of exiting the park and not clearing the bridge if you are making a right turn. It looks like that bridge has taken its toll on campers over the years.

Price reflects daily rate; we stayed 26 days and instead of charging us the daily rate, they charged us the monthly rate of $950 (that was nice of them!). It was a nice park, level site, good cable, not so good wifi (we use our own anyway). The owners do well in the maintenance department, you can tell they take pride in their property. The dogs really enjoyed the fenced dog park area. Laundry was reasonably priced and worked well. We had planned to leave very early on departure day, but had to wait until the gate is unlocked (it was a little before 7 that day) so plan accordingly. We'd definitely stay here again when in the area - very convenient for all the things we wanted to do. Able to head into Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge complete with all that hustle and bustle and still come home to the peace and quiet of the RV park - definitely the quiet side of the Smokies! We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Nice, clean park with level sites. All the pull-through sites are interior. The riverside sites are all back-in and only 30 amp. We lived with the 30 amp to be riverside. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The bath house is small, but air conditioned and clean. The grounds are landscaped and well kept. The sites all have concrete pads and require little to no leveling. There is cable TV and sewer on each site. However, the sites are really close together and, in the case of the riverside spots, there is a county road with quite a bit of local traffic between the campground and the Little River. The park office has a good selection of RV parts and supplies if you need something. There were no fire rings on the camp sites and no swimming pool on the grounds that we noticed. Overall, it is a nice park. Second best in Townsend. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

River Rat tube rentals located next door. You can tube the Little River all day for a small fee with shuttle service provided. Check out Jakes on the River apparel store, Jeepism, the Burger Master, Misty Morning Cafe, and the Riverstone Restaurant. Don't miss Cades Cove and all the activities and hiking opportunities in the national park. Of course, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are only a few minutes away. Also, Tuckaleechee Caverns is just right outside Townsend and is worth checking out.

This CG is run by a very nice family...can't say enough about how pleasant they are to deal with, the grounds are well-maintained, the facilities are clean. That being said, the sites, while long enough to handle the vehicles are not very wide. On our last morning as we went out to dump our tanks, we found our neighbors outside eating breakfast. We were on a deadline, and they were anxious to get on with their day in the GSNP. It was embarrassing for all of us....we're dumping sewage 4 feet from their picnic table where they are eating. It was disgusting! We agreed that if the owners would have just placed 3 sites in the area instead of 4, the difference would be dramatic. Except for this aspect, the CG is almost ideal. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the 30/50, concrete pad section. Water pressure was good, wifi was spotty. Restrooms were clean and shower was spacious. The negative we found was the temperature was going down to 32 at midnight, followed by getting down to about 26 in the early morning and they turned the water completely off at 6 P.M. Water was turned back on about 9:45 the next morning, so no water for almost 16 hours because of "sub-freezing" temps for approximately 7 hours. We had no idea of this policy until we checked in for our stay. We've camped all over the U.S. for over 40 years and never had this experience before with no prior warning. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in a "river" site. These are not river sites and I wouldn't recommend anyone stay at these sites. You are not on the river, the sites have a road that runs between the sites and the river. This road is heavily traveled. There are speed bumps, but no one slows down for these, so you hear "thump thump" your entire stay as people race over those speed humps. We were very disappointed with our site. :-( We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overnited here before getting RV service at a Camping World in Knoxville. This is a well-run and tidy campground with paved sites a little larger than a KOA. Nice laundry room with all-functional appliances. Friendly and helpful staff. Kids playground but didn't see any kids while we were there. Nice dog run. Functional wifi but not speedy. Good Verizon bandwidth locally. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Townsend has a grocery store and an Ace hardware store. A small separate building at the Ace store is an RV supplies store. Maryville is 15 minutes up the road with lots of shopping and restaurants. Great Smoky Mountains NP Cades Cove area is 20 minutes away.

This is a resort town so you have to compromise a bit on RV parks. They are packed in tight. However, this place was neat as a pin, the owners were onsite and visible throughout our stay. Sites are narrow with the exception of ones on the western edge. We stayed two nights "creekside" which is a description that's being used liberally. There's a public road eight feet from our site that locals used at 25 to 45 MPH. The speed bumps did little to slow them down. The creek is just beyond that road. For two more nights, we stayed at an interior site. These are narrower than the creekside, but still enough room for slides and awning. All hookups were in good condition. Wifi was usable on a Thursday, but the weekend wiped out any possible connection. Verizon worked pretty well here. The location is 5-10 minutes from the Townsend entrance to the Smokies. It's also just off Wears Valley Road if you'd like to bypass around Gatlinburg to visit the other side of the park. If you'd like to tube the river, there are two tubing places within walking distance of Big Meadow. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We chose a river site with only 30 amps and we were just fine with that. It has a view of the river with a small residential road between you and the river. The grounds are kept beautifully. The staff was good to deal with. It is a very well run park and it served us for 5 nights. Close to Cades Cove. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.

We have camped in parks all over the US and some in Canada. Big Meadow is simply the best. We love the park and the owners are amazingly friendly and nice. The park has spacious sites and the grounds are well kept. It's peaceful and quiet and the owners take great care in keeping it that way. They are centrally located for motorcyclists as well, with the Tail of the Dragon and other excellent roads just a few minutes away. You will not be disappointed with a stay at Big Meadow! Great facility and service! The access to the river was ideal. The playground and splash area worked great for my grandkids. We enjoyed the nightly campfire for the guests. The convenience of the dog park was nice. The downside was tight sites and the lack of trees. The scenery around us was gorgeous, which helped some. We were here with our RV club with 28 rigs. Staff is very friendly, helped us back in. We had a BBQ Kentucky Derby Party and used their meeting room which was excellent. We were able to bring TVs to watch the race. They have a very nice, clean dog park. We were in Site#2, across road from the river which is very nice. This is our 2nd stay here. WI-FI was strong when we first got there through Saturday. It slowed a bit, but it was better than most places. The grounds are neat and clean. Unfortunately, it rained every day, but still plenty to do. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Great Smoky Mountains, festivals, nice winery for wine tasting, very nice long bike greenway. Restaurants nearby, can walk/bike. Fellow RVers saw a black bear and a fox in Cade's Cove. Ate at Monte Real Grill (Mexican), was delicious. River Rat next to float on the river. Too cold to float in May, but we've done it twice, once with kids and the other with adults A very nice stay!!

While this cost more than we would normally pay for a campsite, the extra cost was worth it. They have internet that actually functions which saved us money on our Verizon Jetpack. The sites are spacious and several have a concrete pad. They are placed so that you are not looking in your neighbors window and you have a sense of privacy. The staff is very helpful and I would recommend if you are coming to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area and what to get away from the crowds. It is definitely the quiet side.
