This park was a welcome stop along our travels from Balloon Fiesta to Nomadfest in Wellington. A cold front came through and it was great to re-group, do laundry, clean and stay warm. Front desk folks were very friendly and helpful. The Lizzie Mae gift shop is a great place to browse for the item one always needs in an RV, plus it has some Christmas items. Site was very level, large and long....no problem fitting our truck and fifth wheel, plus our extra vehicle and balloon trailer. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Good location for a two day stop. But the park is older and in need of some TLC - paint on the fences (some of which are held up by steel posts), pick up the trash (cigarette butts my pet peeve), playground table has mold from wet spots, etc. Good Sam website rates it a 10 but no way. We did ask to have our site cleaned of butts and trash and they did that quickly. Our site was large and level with good parking for the toad. We seemed to be in the permanent section. I will say that the flies are pretty terrible. Have your swatter readily available! Did enjoy the retail store Lizzie Mars. Sam's club just down the road is great to resupply and has the cheapest diesel in town. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Big Texan steak ranch is a great Texas steakhouse! Ribeye steak, baked potato with all the fixings, and a good salad with real blue cheese dressing! It is the home of the 72 ounce steak challenge. The contestants are on the stage doing their best but the two that were there while we were dining lost their challenge.

Overall Rating:

Well-established park with shaded or open level sites that can handle any size rig. Inner roads are old asphalt or gravel. Sites are separated by fences. Good hookups, cable TV, but WiFi never let us in. Our personal hotspot worked just fine. Indoor swimming pool heater was broken, but in this excessive heat, it meant the pool was deliciously cool. Hot tub is not presently working. Toilets and showers in Rec Hall (where pool is) were pristine. Located near one of the main shopping/dining areas. Office is closed on Sunday, but reservation packets were posted on the wall just inside the doors. Because online reservations incur a $3.50 fee, our Good Sam discount came to 30 cents. Even so, we would happily stay here again. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Hoffbrau Steak & Grillhouse for prime rib. Beef Burger Barrel, 3102 Plains Blvd, serves old style burgers, fries, tater tots, etc. Don't expect fast service, as it's a one very friendly person operation, but it's absolutely delicious. The tater tots and cherry limeade are the best in town, too.

The dog area was great - large and plenty of room to let them run. However, the area near our site was frequented by campers who did not think they needed to pickup after their pets - despite the availability of bags. As we work our way across the country, this seems to becoming the norm, but I digress. Fort Amarillo is a bit worn out on the exterior, but the site was adequate. The bathroom and showers were not fancy, but they were spotless. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

First time here for an overnight stop, older park, our site was near the front and had a long wooden wall separating the sites, VERY long site. HUGE grass area for the dogs. This park is older but fairly well taken care of. Had some long term sites. They seem to be working o on things - to update. TV wasn't the greatest..... We would stay here again... Access is very easy and the park is large. Beautiful Dog Park with lots of grass for the Labradot to play. Roads are okay to navigate. site was large and easy to access. The office closed on Memorial Day but gave wonderful referrals to Dyes BBQ. The food and service were wonderful. Would go back for that alone. The pool was clean and warm. The only complaint is the wind and that is not the fault of the park. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The park roads were dirt, with lots of pot holes and uneven surfaces, although they were easily maneuverable with a 36' DP motorhome. If you have dogs and are looking for grass, you won't find it here, at least not in the "transient" spots. There was no cable TV connection, but there were several OTA stations available. The water was easy to connect to, and the water pressure was sufficient. The RV parking pad was gravel and was in decent condition. The WiFi connection to their access point was good, and the internet bandwidth was awesome (a real rarity in campgrounds). Verizon cell signal was 5 out of 5 bars. We don't use restrooms, showers or pools, so we can't render an opinion on those items. There was a dog park for our 4 footed friends (we travel with 3 golden retrievers). We did notice a low level of road noise, but noise like that doesn't bother us anyway. The price was reasonable for the services received, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Initially planned to stay for one week but extended to two. Nice well kept, quiet campground on the outskirts of Amarillo but convenient to anything you want....shopping, restaurants, local attractions. Campground has all facilities you could want for a short or long term stay. Be sure to make the day trip to Palo Euro Canyon State Park, it is beautiful. Just avoid January...they close half of the park for an annual hunt so you miss a lot of the scenery. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

This is our second time staying here. The sites are easy in and easy out and quite long. We had plenty of room for our 41 ft 5th wheel and truck. The park is nicely landscaped with a nice indoor pool also. The first time we stayed there in April 2016 I was disappointed to find a hole where the hot tub is supposed to be. I assumed they were just fixing it and it would actually be there this time, but the same hole was still there so I guess they're not planning to fix it. The office staff are super helpful and friendly, and I love that they waive the extra charge for kids for Fulltime Families members. Thank you for that! Verizon worked very well here. Don't know why previous reviewer slammed this park, but we have stayed here every year for about 11 years and this park is always at least a 9 or 5 star rating. They are always improving the park. We have never seen dogs running around loose or feces laying around. Wonderful owners that are very personable. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Booked this park for 3 nights and left after 1. The site was spacious enough and hooks-ups worked fine but the smell of urine and feces was just too much. People let their dogs roam freely to do their business wherever and don't pick up after them. Woke up in the morning and opened the door for fresh air, left within the hour because of the smell, a dog had pooped right at our door. Did not use the bathroom/shower or laundry. Park is run down and over run with full timers, the 9 1/2 mph speed limit is totally ignored, lots of dust with the speeders on the dirt road. I would not recommend this park. Reservations are still made over the phone, but now your payment is processed when you call and you don't need to stop by the desk if you check in after hours. Rate reflects 3rd person (+$2) and Good Sam discount.

Started using this park 2014. This is my go-to overnight stop on trips to the Rockies and all things West. Overall maintenance and repairs seem to be improving.

Easy access from Loop and interstate. Sites are long and wide, never had a problem with a 40' MH and toad. Sites are divided with a low fence and have large cement patio with picnic table. Large dog park and other "stations" with bags and waste disposal. Playground. I read other comments about hot tub. "Hot tub" room has been a storage unit since my first stay; I wouldn't expect it to return. Gift shop for Texas related and crafty items is larger than most standalone stores. They are remodeling the store entry, however, and had NO RV supplies (they have stocked them in the past.) Stayed 2x this trip. This would be my 8th or 10th stay since 2014. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Motorhome.
