I'm sorry to say this park was a disappointment for us. Having seen it was acquired by Sun RV Resorts, we really expected the sites to be very nice. They were basic, nothing great about them in any way. Unfortunately we were visiting during a time of a lot of rain and our site (any many more) aren't setup to drain properly and it was a muddy, messy quagmire. Apparently the park has a dispute going on (as stated in their brochure) with the local cable companies, so there is no cable TV. We used our satellite and put up the over the air antenna which did bring in local stations in good digital reception. We have dogs and the dog park is nice... only issue again was very little drainage, so to get in, you had to walk through 3-4" of standing water which soaked our shoes. This park is really ready for an upgrade and I hope Sun spends the money to make it happen. Texas DOT is in the middle of a LOT of work on the frontage road at and near this park. Pulling out of the park both for day trips and in your RV is a real challenge as they close one lane and traffic is way too heavy for the road. People are in such a hurry, they won't necessarily give you a break and let you out of the park! We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

The roads in the park are very narrow - packed in - the only view from the front is the back of the unit across from you - can't even see the narrow road. Our site did have a grassy area next to it, but many had only gravel. No patio. The restrooms were nice and clean. A worker escorted us to our site, but tried (unsuccessfully) to insist that he could only give instructions to my husband (b/c he happened to be driving) - a 10 minute directive that could have been covered in 2 minutes! The pool was in front - on the frontage road - loud. The rest of the park was quiet and felt safe. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Spent 3 nights here and the location is decent if you want to get to downtown area. Asked for shade and was put in a spot which had some shade until noon then we roasted until the sun went down. This campground is pretty cramped. The interior roads are excellent but fairly narrow. You need to go all the way to the very rear of the property and come back through the middle to exit and the turns are tight. They could improve egress immensely with a rear exit which isn't onto the VERY busy frontage road which is also under construction with jersey barriers everywhere. Stay off I-35 and use the parallel streets. Road construction is a nightmare in this area. HEB and Walmart are nearby and can be accessed without getting on I-35. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Austin Lone Star has under gone another ownership change since our last visit. This is about the fourth owner since we first stayed here. They are "streamlining" the check in process by checking you in at your site which was good. There is no store anymore and the office hours are what I consider for the people that live there full time, 8:00 to 5:00 Monday thru Friday and until Noon Saturday and closed all day Sunday. Baths are clean and laundry facility is very nice. Security is good. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Given that the park is just off I-35, it was less noisy than I expected. It was very clean. There were some long term campers there, but sites were overall maintained. Some concrete pads were available, but ours was gravel. Bath/shower house very clean. Nice fitness area and pool. Laundry facility available, but we didn't use. We found out that our reservations were for one night less than we thought we had reserved--not sure who made the error--but they were able to accommodate us. Wifi worked well--several repeaters located throughout park. Propane available for sale as well. For sites without grills, there was a public grill area. Gated entry with keycards. Seemed pretty secure to me. Very tough getting around Austin anywhere due to road construction. Concrete construction barriers near the entrance to the park makes the entry a bit hard to spot but GPS had no problem. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Great staff. The freeway system, the construction, and frontage roads create a lot of inconveniences around Austin. This was a haven among the rat race. Be careful about entering and exiting the park. With the frontage road construction and speeding traffic, be careful not to miss the driveway entering the resort. When departing, be aware of the potholes on the exit side of the driveway. Traffic around Austin, the freeway and frontage road expansion make driving a chore. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Where to start. This park, which is far from a resort, is right off I-35. You access via frontage road and the entrance is easy to miss and very tricky due to construction and concrete barriers. It seems Sun Resorts may have recently purchased this property and is in process of upgrading. As mentioned in other reviews, there is a security gate at entrance. Interior roads narrow and "both ways" but we managed fine with our 42 foot MH. Our site 34 was fine but had some litter. No attempt to clean up noted which differed from our stay at a previous Sun RV in San Antonio. There are a lot of park models and permanent residents which was OK with us. Most of the "transient" sites are in the front part of the park. There was major construction on the exit just north so getting out and on to I-35 can be challenging. As others have mentioned, if only they had an entrance/exit out the back way! Nice enough folks at check in but, given the exorbitant price, we would not stay again. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

The management was nice and helpful and the guy that led us to the site gave a lot of helpful details. Sites are good size and well maintained. I-35 can be noisy so best to request a site further back from the road. Cable is not available but the local broadcast stations pick up well. Some sites have large hedges on the left and your left slide may butt up against the hedge so be sure and remove any items from the bins before opening it. Tips for other Campers:

There are some good shops and restaurants at Southpark Meadows with a very nice playground for kids. With the current construction a good way to get there is the back way: take an immediate right off the service road at Boggy Creek, then go a couple of miles and turn right on Slaughter Ln. Go under the freeway and take a left on the service road - Southpark Meadows will be on the right.

Very good. Rate is based on weekly rate. Only complaint is: they should have an entry at the rear of the park. I-35 and service road, main entry, traffic is horrible. Going to the store, which is very close, is a challenge We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots to see in Austin but don't go on I-35, instead take Congress street. It's parallel to I-35 and traffic is much better, even with red lights. Also there are several neet places to eat along Congress. Take the 90 minute van tour of Austin and select the places you want to spend time at. Our favorite was the Capital Building Of course go to Austin City Limits for a show

One of the nicer parks we've stayed in. A little bit south of the city, but accessible by (congested, under construction) highway. Good WiFi, nice spots with good hookups. Close to McKinney Falls State Park (worth visiting!). Would recommend to others. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

We spent three nights at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in our 40' fifth wheel. We had a pull-through site that was plenty long and wide enough to enable us to park our rig, our tow vehicle and a car. The hookups worked well and were located conveniently. The roads within the park are somewhat narrow but we had no trouble getting around in our big rig. They no longer provide cable TV but there were plenty of stations available over the air. The wifi worked well. The laundry room was larger than usual and the machines were quite modern. We didn't use any other amenities. There is an entry gate that is closed at all times for security. We were given an access badge upon arrival that activated the gate. With Passport America available for two of the nights, the rate was very attractive. The only issue we had was with the Austin traffic (congested everywhere). Access to the campground is via the northbound I-35 frontage road so, if you're coming from the north, you'll need to exit I-35 south of the campground and then head back north. There's an exit ramp off of northbound I-35 just before reaching the campground. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at Austin Lone Star when we return to Austin. Lots of rv's, almost every site was occupied. Some road noise. Escort to site. There are 4 main roads but they only want you to exit on the one that lines up with the gate. It is a 2 way but not wide enough for 2 vehicles so that could be a problem exiting. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Very well cared for and good bang for the buck. Location is wonderful.....very close to downtown. Of course, how fast you get there is a question mark. Terrible traffic and construction going on in front of the park. It's a tight park but not difficult to get a big rig in and set up. Lots of trees, so you could have a satellite problem ...but I lucked out there. Everyone I've dealt with is friendly and professional. Price is wonderful considering location. Second trip here and would stay again. We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.

This park is much nicer than the price indicates. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and the facilities are well above par. We stayed for an emergency stop on July 4th weekend, and they not only found us a spot, they helped us find a mobile mechanic to get us back on the road. They have an A++ swimming pool, uniformed staff, complimentary coffee, a little shop, propane, full hook-ups, shade, and pull-through sites (and cabins). We feel extremely lucky to have found this park after the emergency on the first night of our 5000-mile trip! We camped at Austin Lone Star RV Resort in a Motorhome.
