You can't beat staying at a National Park with full hook ups. The park is massive with incredible views. The campground is located on the east side of the park, so unless you have a towed car, you will be driving your RV a lot as it is a big park. While they have a couple of gas stations, they are about $.40 more than outside the park. The signs outside the park said that the campground was full, but they do have some non-reserveable sites. While were there in May, the high temperature was 100 each day, so it can very hot. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The park is huge and beautiful. Get out early as the park will heat up as the day goes on. The Chisos Basin is about 20 degrees cooler than the rest of the park as it is at a higher altitude. The park has great trails, but bring plenty of water.

Back in sites face each other across a not-very-wide lot. Big rigs stick out into the roadway. We had no problem, but it could be bad if there were too many big rigs. Utilities were fine. Wifi was sporadic and weak at the site. OK at office. Open for satellite. Expensive gas and diesel available at office. No cell service. Backcountry Roads - Old Ore Road and River Road are the best. Spend $4 for the book that describes them so you know what you are looking at. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Motorhome.

Only full hookup campground in the park - yes a parking lot but the location is what makes it the only place to stay - WiFi worked great at the store even with lots of teens in the group tenting area - Verizon cell service was available at the beginning or Old Ore road about 2-3 miles from campground Stayed here a week 200 miles of unpaved road to have fun on in the park We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

There were two sections to this campground. One is a more typical one with lots of room and trees, but no hookups, and the other section that was basically a small parking lot with full lookups, which is where this review is about. The park roads were concrete and easily maneuverable with a 36' DP motorhome, but the camping area was a double row parking lot with all camp sites basically 90 degree parking spaces, which makes it very difficult to park larger RV's, like our 36' motorhome. It took 6 or 7 back-and-forth tries with a lot of help from the people around us. Our site was 100% concrete, with all of the utilities at the back, requiring extensions for some of the utility hookups. There was no cable TV connection, and no OTA TV stations. The water was easy to connect to, and the water pressure was sufficient. The WiFi connection was OK to their access point, and the internet bandwidth was a 5 out of 10, so it was useable but not great. Verizon cell signal was non-existent. We don't use restrooms or showers, so we can't render an opinion on those items. There was no dog park for our 4 footed friends (we travel with 3 golden retrievers). There was NO road noise, as you're out in the middle of nowhere. The price was a little high for the type of campsite you get. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The night sky was nothing short of AMAZING!! We would definitely stay here (or at the no hookup sites) again. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Motorhome.

Basically a parking lot, but with full HU's in the desert. Pretty tight fo longer RVs but not full while we were there. Used this as a base to tour the NP> Winter is the time to be there. In summer things are HOT and some visitor centers are closed. Call ahead for availability if a big rig. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Motorhome.

This is nothing more than one long parking lot with 12 spaces on each side, all back-in with grass & trees behind them. You are given just enough room for your RV & tow. A picnic table is on the grass behind you. 13-25 get the afternoon sun, and wow, was it hot! We had our air on all day and night and it couldn't keep up. The awning only helped a tiny, but since the sun faced us, it wasn't much help - if you come here, try and get a site 1-12, as you will face away and your awning will give you some shade at least! 3 days was plenty for us to see and do all we needed, and with the heat, that was enough. Glad we came tho. The store is stocked well enough. Believe them when they say "no cell service" - only at Ranger Stations! ;-) Also, give yourself at least 30-45 min to get anywhere, as every place is far from each other. BIG place, but nice. Give yourself plenty of time to get everywhere. Take a camera and binoculars (big birding area), be prepared for the heat, so go early in the morning to hike and get around & take plenty of water with you. Lots of great sunsets and stars to watch for too! Beautiful!

We stayed here for two nights in a 36 foot fifth wheel. I had wished I had read the other review comments regarding parking at a diagonal vs. Straight back in to the site. The two Class A rigs across from me made it very difficult to park and unhook without doing many forward-reverse movements. Checkin and out was alright, friendly services. Electric power was good and water pressure was good. It was 102 degf both days so we were very happy to have a/c. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Fifth Wheel.

We arrived late October and found reservations probably would not have been necessary. Winter is the busy season - Late November through March. It was nice having a reserved site for our 40' unit so we could park diagonally next to 2 45' rigs also parked diagonally. Good power and water pressure. Sewer had non standard horizontal entrance encumbered by a curb all around requiring uphill drainage. Maybe designed in the days before elbows on drain systems. Two nights we watched the javelinas grazing on the irrigated grass nearby. Good WIFI and well stocked store. Gas and Diesel available at an expected elevated price. Parking lot with hookups. Very useful in early June as the temps were at 100 all three days we were there. Just a parking lot, nothing more. I would not have boondocked at this time of year as it is just plain too hot. We found the stars to be unbelievable. They were the brightest and most sparkling I have ever seen. Park has become very run down since they turned it over to the private firm, no maintenance has or is being done, no one cleans up the lot from debris. We planned a week, left after 2 days, constant power outages, some low, some high, some involving the entire park. Loved this park years ago, but cannot recommend. We stayed here for a week to explore the east side of Big Bend National Park. Considering the place is little more than a parking lot, I was surprised we enjoyed it as much as we did, but then we spent most of the daytime hours out and about. We appreciated having electricity as we often needed the A/C with the temps rising to the high 80's on several days. We were told to park our 40-foot class A crosswise in site 25 and take the two car parking spots adjacent to it as well; this gave us a lot of private space in the shade on the hook-ups side of the rig and seems to be the norm for big rigs staying here. This site has the advantage that if you position your rig right, you can get the wi-fi signal from the campground store. There is a two-pump service station at the store -- both gas and diesel are available. Propane is also available, but during our stay it was limited to certain days when an appropriately-trained person was on duty; we didn't need to top off, so it wasn't an isssue, but inquire on arrival if you need propane. Laundry and bathroom/shower open 23 hours a day ... didn't need to use them, but lots of people were using them and we heard no complaints. The nature trail hike from the non-hookups campground is lovely and makes a good spot for sunsets. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This campground is basically a parking lot for campers but we'll worth it if you want the hookups. Even in January the a/c came in handy as the temp hit 83 degrees. The grassy area behind the camper made up for the bare parking spot. We had a nice shady area to sit under. The store was convienent and had wifi service if you got close enough to it. Absolutely no cell phone service unless you drove 20 miles back to the main visitor center.
As others have said the drive in is long but there are fuel stations in 3 spots in the park.
If you want to see a lot of the park you need at least 3 full days because it is so big. If you want to dry camp the other Rio Grande Village without hookups is very nice.
We would stay again. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Fifth Wheel.

The sites were oddly laid out, but easily accessible by any size or configuration rig. Please note its about two hours from Marathon to campground, and over an hour once in the park. It is remote. Stars are awesome. Water, electric and sewer at every site. Laundry also open 24 hours if needed. Had a grew time, but whew. Hot..... I was surprised we liked it as much as we did based on other reviews. We were in a 40 foot motor home and found the spaces more than adequate for our 4 slides. The site was paved as were the roads in and out and all level. This is the only place in the park with full hook ups. There is a nice convenience store with all the basic grocery items you would need. There are large trees and grassy areas that you back up to but not around the sites. There are only 25 RV sites so book early. The park is big so it took an hour to the rv village park from the entrance. Internet was available at the Chisos Mt Lodge but not in the RV park. No cable. For the most part you are off the grid.

We'd recommend the park. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Motorhome.

This is a hard campground to rate. Big Bend Park is a Ten all day long! But this campground is simply a parking lot for RVs. They are lined up side by side, close together. The worst aspect is the narrowness of the fairway between one row and another. We watched people with fifth wheels and long trailers try to back in with no room to do so. It's a shame that with so much space in this park, that they couldn't allocate another ten feet of parking lot space. There was a picnic table for each site on the uneven and unmowed grassy area behind your RV. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Motorhome.
