We made reservations 90 days in advance for one of the five full hook-up campsites. Once you pass through the village of Brackettville, it's 25 miles until the Park turnoff and then another 3.5 miles to the Park Headquarters. Roads are narrow but in good condition and we saw 5 vehicles over those 25 miles. We arrived 3pm Friday and were able to select from four campsites. Gravel roads throughout campground and gravel campsites. Good spacing between sites provides privacy. Very quiet! Toilet/shower house in good condition with each having one shower stall and two sinks. Very clean. This same facility is used by day users/picnickers. This State Park was a working ranch until the owner donated the land in 1986. Nothing fancy here - quiet and very remote! Park headquarters building had wifi. Otherwise we had to drive 15 miles for AT&T cell signal. No garbage/trash containers in Park and campers are warned in advance that they must pack out all trash. Ticks are VERY BAD here! We made advance reservations (30 days prior) to do the State Park cave tour on Saturday afternoon for $10/each. Two State Park rangers provided an excellent tour of the Kickapoo Cavern. This is NOT a tour of the Stuart Bat Cave. Kickapoo Cavern is untouched - no steps or pathways, but a 1/2 mile of fairly strenuous climbing and crawling over large boulders that were once the cave's ceiling and walls. The best part of this State Park was the bat emergence from Stuart Cave. Friday evening we watched with six other people and two rangers who were very informative about the cave, bats and the overall Kickapoo Cavern State Park habitat. It was breathtakingly awesome. BEST emergence I have ever seen! We were able to get very close to the cave entrance to experience nearly one million bats taking flight for the night! We camped at Kickapoo Cavern State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This State Park is listed as a #2 on the Bortle Scale, which ranks dark skies. Fort Clark Springs in Brackettville is on the National Register of Historic Places. Extremely interesting historical placards throughout the old Fort. Brackettville has a tiny grocery store and a Valero refueling station. Closest WALMART is in Del Rio.

Great secluded small campground. I would recommend calling to make sure they have a space before driving out. The road to get there (from Bracketteville) is a bit narrow, especially for Texas (i.e. no shoulder). The only cell service is if you take the .8 mile trail at the campground. The only issue we had was with ticks. It seems they were pretty much everywhere. We found 5 total. Just be aware and use bug spray and have your dogs treated. WiFi was o.k. for checking e-mail. The bat emergence is worth the trip. We camped at Kickapoo Cavern State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We've camped in our 43-foot coach all over North America, and this is one of our favorites spots now. There are only two sites that will handle a rig our size, and those are sites 5 and 7. Both have water, sewer, and 50 amp power. If you call ahead a few days before, they'll reserve one of those spots for you. Given how incredibly remote this place is, the internet was slow. But, we are just glad that we could at least check email. There was no AT&T phone coverage in the park, but we got a signal a few miles from the park headed back toward Bracketville. Note that the highway from Bracketville to the park is very, very narrow - probably the narrowest I've driven in our coach. But, we only passed two vehicles (both pickup trucks) in the 23 miles! And the evening bat emergence is awe-inspiring. And the park rangers are very helpful and friendly. We were in Site 7, and it was huge - tons of room, lots of privacy, a covered picnic table. Sites and roads are a mix of gravel and asphalt, but are in terrific condition. Our site was plenty level. To make a long story short, we will most definitely be back. It's just an awesome place to visit. We camped at Kickapoo Cavern State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to head into Bracketville and spend some time exploring Fort Clark and the springs. The spring-fed pool is gorgeous. The spring produces between 12 million and 14 million gallons of water a day, and it's quite impressive. The bat emergence (1 million bats) should not be missed. And, Devil's Sinkhole is about 40-50 miles away, and has 6 million bats!

We were in 50A full hookup site #3. Website says RV length restricted to 25'. Called park and they said I'd have no problem fitting into a site. They were right, one of the largest pads we've seen. Very remote park. 25+ miles to closest town, so take everything you need. Also, they do not have dumpsters, you must pack out all of your trash. We camped at Kickapoo Cavern State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
