This is a beautiful park right on the lake after travelling miles on the road to the park. We camped in our 35' motorhome with tow in the Spanish Oaks area. , Site 5. The back-in spots were long enough and we could park our tow at the front. A lovely covered picnic table was strangely on the other side of our motorhome which limited our use. TV reception not so good nor phones but the peace and quiet and wonderful view more than made up for that for a couple of nights. Not a great deal of shade however it was enough for us. We would stay here again. We camped at Possum Kingdom State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice view of lake, large swimming area but steep entry. Some sites easier to back into than others with large trailer. Easy access to water from most sites. Fully stocked store in park - but beer nowhere near so come prepared. We camped at Possum Kingdom State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Possum Kingdom SP on our way out of Dallas headed west towards Tahoe. We chose to avoid driving on Interstates, so our drive found us passing by Possum Kingdom Lake State Park. We got a late start out of Dallas, so decided to stay at the park for the night. It was very dark and a long way off the state highway (like a half hour). The road was twisty and 2 lane...had we known how far it was, we'd have stayed elsewhere. We arrived after hours, so drove around in our 25' Motorhome with tow vehicle and found a spot. We needed to unhook the toad to back into our site. We had a premium site near the water with full hookups...something not all state parks offer, so this was a bonus. You might want to reserve ahead during peak season to get a spot with hookups if you want them. Most of the other campers were undoubtedly there for the water sports as many had boats. We had our two dogs and walked around with them before leaving and it was typical of many lakes in Texas. I am sure this is a beautiful park, but we didn't really have a chance to explore it...the area we were in was pretty basic. The area we were in had a few trees, but our site was treeless. There was a covered picnic table adjacent to our site and a bath house nearby. I really don't have any complaints, but generally prefer more trees. This is a park more for people into water sports. I'd recommend it if you are looking to enjoy the lake, but for an overnight stop, there might be better options since it's so far off the road and doesn't offer much aside from the lake. For this trip, it wasn't a great choice, but in the future, if we had more time to stick around and enjoy the lake, I'd happily stay here again. The park rangers were friendly. We camped at Possum Kingdom State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Possum Kingdom State Park is on the southwest shore of Possum Kingdom Lake near Caddo, Texas. The park is nestled in the Palo Pinto mountains. The lake is one of the finest in Texas with the clearest water of any lake in the state. The park was the last CCC built park in Texas. Nice hiking trails. Wildlife abound. Great swimming.

Very remote park, the closest town, Graham, is 30 miles away. The park has a well stocked park store.

There are 20 sites in the premium section with 50A electric and water. Many sites on the lake. Only 10 sites can accommodate a 30'+ RV. The water and electric section of the park has 40 sites. Best suited for tents and RV's under 20'. If you have a large RV you should arrive before Friday for best site selection.

We were in site 17 with a great view and access to the lake. We will return. We camped at Possum Kingdom State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an older, somewhat tired Texas State Park that hasn't been properly maintained for sometime. The beach area was poorly kept with litter, pet droppings, and tall grass. Our first campsite had a damaged power connection and so we moved to another site. The Park seemed popular in that all the lakefront campsites were booked weeks and months in advance. The area has not recovered from years of drought and several large fires. The actual lake is probably among the best you'll find in this part of Texas. We camped at Possum Kingdom State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This Park is some isolated and would be a longer drive to any of the smaller towns or cities in the area. The Park offers canoe rentals and has 2-3 swimming areas.

Plenty of cedar trees that, if not the prettiest tree, still provide shade. And the kids loved hiking up the "mountain." The premium sites are suggested for vehicles over 20', but we were able to fit our 31' FW in the non-premium sites and liked the scenery much better. We hiked, biked, boated, and a nondenominational ministry group had games for the kids one afternoon. We've already reserved for next year. We camped at Possum Kingdom State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This was our very first experience at camping in a State Park. We have already made reservations to return in July. The staff was wonderful, the store owners very friendly and accommodating. Our campsite (#13) was shady, level, free from fireants, waterfront, and just a great experience all around. We hiked two days of the three that we stayed. Restrooms were very clean with hot showers. We will be staying here often. We camped at Possum Kingdom State Park in a Tent Trailer.

We enjoyed our visit here. This lake is in a swamp type area with moss on the trees and plenty to see. We had a great time and the park has been recently renovated. Unfortunately it was 100+ degrees, so we did not get to spend much outdoor time in the afternoon. There is a tour boat at the park that tours at 10am, 12pm , 2pm and 4pm for $15 per adult and $13 for children. This is the 4th state park we have visited in the last 6 weeks and have yet to be dissapointed. We camped at Possum Kingdom State Park in a Travel Trailer.
