Overall Rating:

This is a very nice campground. It is well maintained. No specific sites are reserved - just space. You pick the site you want then return to finish up registration. Most sites are very spacious with grass separating them. First loops are wagon wheel style with sites in a circle and their backs toward center. Second loop is more traditional with sites angeled in a line. The last row of sites back up to the Colorado River. There are many trees, wild flowers and vegetation to create a park like atmosphere. There is even a herd of deer on the property! They have mowed hiking trails throughout the park. Other amenities include basketball, pickle ball, swimming pool, mini golf, an exchange library and small exercise room. We would certainly return. We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

About 6 miles from Columbus Texas. Columbus has several resteraunts, lots of self service car washes (dusty in Texas!), gas stations and a mini-Walmart attached to a HEB grocery store.

We stayed in D section which was down near the river. Though we did not see the river from our site, there were many deer who came through in the morning and evening and made our stay enjoyable. Be aware of fire ant mounds and avoid stepping in them. Rate reflects Thousand Trails member price (free). We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The rate reflects the $3.00 per night 50 amp charge. Very nice park, well kept. Our site in A section was generous, solid gravel, reasonably level and easy to negotiate. This is a small park compared to some of the Thousand Trail parks, so the it had limited activities.

This park does not accept regular mail. If you required regular (1st class) mail you need to use general delivery and the post office is about six miles away. They do accept mail packages, but if it's UPS, FedX or ? it will cost your $2.00 per package.

The highlight for us at this park is the deer all over the place. Our Verizon Broad Band was 4 bars 4G. We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

The closest Walmart is in Columbus, about 9 miles away but it is not a Superstore. Columbus has two other good sized grocery stores, Brookshire & HEB.

This was a delightful stay. Clean as a pin, friendly, helpful staff. We got a nice river front site (50amp). They did tell us they had flooded 3 times in the past 18 months. We didn't use but did inspect the pool and jacuzzi which were clean and nice. They had an ice cream social while we were there. Many deer roam the facility and we picked wild pecans around our rig. We had a good cell signal with 3-4 bars LTE on VZW. No wifi available. No cable but did get a few broadcast stations on our crank up antenna. We'll absolutely come back here. Overall Rating:

We stayed in the upper circles and found a full hookup among the water/electric sites, so we had no one on either side of us. The bathroom was next door and the activity center/laundry area in walking distance. Some sites are back in, some pull through; a lot are 50 amp so you have look if you want 30 amp. The electric was good and the water pressure and quality good. No Wi-Fi or cable at the sites. The pool was undergoing maintenance when we were there but will be ready soon. Small playground and very small dog park. Nice walking trails all over the park and many deer all around. Only way down to the river was boat ramp which was covered with mud and washed out. No place to walk along river or fish. As with other Thousand Trails, they are a preserve and huge; nicely wooded, quiet and not much lighting. They have a tent area for those adventurous souls since the bathrooms are not close to it, but it does have water and electric. We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The city of Columbus is very small, but they do have an HEB and Walmart. We ate at Blakes next to Walmart, which was very good. Columbus also has the 2nd largest live oak tree in Texas (the first being in Lamar, Texas near Rockport), so be sure to look it up and get your pictures.

This was our first time at this Thousand Trails park and we love it. The sites are spacious and arranged well. This is one of the smaller parks and so it is quiet. Staff is friendly and helpful. Good walking trails around the park and always deer to see. We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very relaxing place to stop. It is near large cities or you can go into Columbus and get good food at small town prices. The manager is customer service guided so your stay will be great. Our first stay at a Thousand Trail campground and we couldn't be more pleased. I love the fact that they let you pick your site on what's available at the time and we found a great site looking over the Colorado River. It was 50 amp service so that's why we had to pay the extra $3.00 nite. We were told we wouldn't get TV reception off our antenna at this site but that wasn't the case. The TV worked great. AT&T wasn't good here but our Verizon MiFi was. We had strong 4G cell reception. The grounds are large and look to be well maintained. The roads inside the park could use some work. Would definitely come back again. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Travel Trailer.

Heading west through Texas and decided to take a week long breather here.

Check in was smooth and easy, very friendly ranger. Found our spot and set up.

Guess it's off season here, plenty of spots to choose from. We chose one that was near some friends who had rerouted to meet up with us.

Quite a large campground with a decent amount of space between campers. Many full hook up options, $3 upcharge for 50 amp. Bathrooms are clean, as is the laundry room and the activity center.

They have a small pool, and a large mini golf, basketball court and a unfenced pickleball court. There are also 2 ponds on the property.

There are still a few activities offered.

Large grassy fields. Some a bit overgrown, but found out that was intentional. The local deer and having their little one and the fawns hide out in the grass. We were also lucky enough to see a bobcat while here.

We attempted to take their 2 mile hike around the park, but could not find the trails as it has overgrown.

Propane is also available here.

We camped here in a 40' class A. We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Have stayed here a few times in the past, it's become kind of one of our go to places to get a way for a few days. This was the first time we had a site on the Colorado Rivers edge, and the term edge is just that. It was a 15' drop straight down to the water behind our RV. Maybe not what a family with small children would wish for, but for us it was nice. No worries of snakes coming out of the water to the RV, but enjoyed the sound of the river flowing down stream behind us.

The park was almost full of full hook up sites, but all utilities were clean and steady as one would expect. Park Staff friendly, attentive all around excellent. Well be back again without a doubt, and soon I hope.

The Putt Putt Golf Course has very recently been re-carpeted. Roads could still use a little work, but then so could most city streets. $3 rate based on TT membership of free with an up charge for 50amp service. We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a number of nearby day trips to take in the area. Numerous Winery tours, a mead tour, State preserves, Shiner TX and the brewery, the quaint towns of La Grange, and Columbus squares. Plenty of great food selections around the area.

Overall rating is because lots of fire ants and goat head burrs. Fast and friendly check in. Staff was wonderful and answered all our questions. During the fall there will be more pecans than you can pick up. Grounds have a very large deer population that will wander through your campsite. Restrooms were very clean. Overall Rating:

This campground is just outside Columbus, TX a few minutes drive north of I-10. If you are looking for a quiet, pastoral campground this is it. Really, it’s hard to believe that the hustle and bustle of the interstate is only 10 minutes away. The grounds are fairly wide open with a several oak and pecan trees that provide some nice shade. We liked the fact that the property was all mowed and not overgrown. There are two RV areas. Section A is closest to the entrance and near the small pool and hot tub. The pool isn’t heated but the hot tub is inside a small building. Sections C and D are closer to the river and also have a nice playground. You can see the river only from a few sites and river access is via a small, and little used, boat ramp at the corner of the campground. The campground offers a wide variety of RV site options ranging from water/electric only to full hookup/50 amp sites. You’ll want to pay attention to the campground map as you select your site because the site across the road or even right next to the one you are looking like may offer different amenities: 50 or 30 amp, no sewer hookup, etc. I think the only two pull through sites are water/electric only. The roads in the campground are in poor repair and for some reason this year the area is suffering a bumper crop of grass stickers. There’s no telling how many of them we picked out of our camper’s carpet! We enjoyed hearing the coyotes and watching armadillos and many deer. The campground has a “no feeding” policy so while the deer aren’t especially afraid of people they do want to keep their distance. We also took advantage of the many pecan trees, picking up pecans for future use. We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate is a Passport America Rate. Phoned ahead and made reservation. Charged $21. Upon arrival, told 50amp service would be another $3. Certainly not the $3 bucks, but it would have been nice to have been told this at the time of reservation. We spent only one night here. Placed in the "A" area which was LOADED with Sandspurs and I mean LOADED. There were also an abundance of active fire ant mounds. I assume the nice area is for actual thousand trail/encore members. The basket ball and tennis courts appeared run down. Park staff was friendly but we would never stay here again mainly due to the sandspurs and ants. Big thing to watch for in sites in A section is goat's head stickers. Like many TTN Parks the roads are not being kept up. Road leading to gatehouse was pretty dusty. AT&T cell works with LTE signal. Staff friendly and helpful. Many deer roaming the area at this time of year. We camped at Colorado River Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.
