We stayed here for six months while on temporary assignment at NAS Corpus Christi. It's a nice campground with long, level concrete pads. The laundry room was always clean and they mow the grass regularly. No shade at all. The WiFi was outstanding, probably the best I've ever encountered in a campground. Other campers, especially the long term campers, were very friendly. The wind never stops blowing, but otherwise, it was a good place to stay and we would definitely return. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice campground at the end of Ocean Drive. All sites are back-in right on the bay. There are a few palm trees, but all sites are sunny and have full access to receive satellite TV. The sites are concrete and 50-feet long. They are wide enough for a 45-foot RV and a car. The only complaint I have being the management does not inforce their own rules. Many of the sites are homesteaded, with three vehicles and boats parked at the sites. By the rules I had to sign, this is not allowed. If you want to stay somewhere near the water, and a quiet place to relax, this is the place for you. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Motorhome.

We just spent three days at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area and enjoyed it very much. Nice and quiet, great location with access to all the base facilities as well as the City of Corpus Christi and the beach. Had no problems and the staff was excellent. Lots of space between sites and the grass was well maintained with no (well, very few) stickers. Everything was well maintained and very clean. Only very minor criticism is that the 30-amp sites are small, some are head-in and drive out across the grass. A few of them have the hookups in awkward places. Not really a problem, just awkward. Next time I'll ask for a 50 amp site and pay the extra $3. A few sites did appear to be long-term tenants, but were very well kept. Also, while the big fishing pier is still closed, there is a smaller pier across from the MWR office. Don't forget your pet's shot records. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Travel Trailer.

A great park with large concrete sites. Check-in was simple and the staff ladies were very friendly. Park was very clean and the restrooms, while a little dated, were clean every time we used them. Wish the Navy would fix the 2 fishing piers, which are closed due to damage from a storm last year. Someone ought to organize a "self-help" project to fix the piers; if that happened, I'd be happy to come down for a few weeks and help. I don't have anything negative to say about this park - we'll definitely come back. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Travel Trailer.

If you're into fishing, check out Packery Channel on the road to Mustang Island. The city has made this into a wonderful park.

This park has two campground areas; both are close to the water. The week I was there the wind blew every day; I'd put my awning out in the am for a little shade, and close it up by mid-day when the wind picked up. The campgrounds have no trees, so the wind off the bay was strong. Laundry was free, as was Wifi (using Navy Go-Wifi). A real bargain, but Spartan. We had originally reserved one of the 28 $15 sites, with full hookup on grass. When we called to say we might pull in a little after 5pm, we were offered one of the 52 concrete sites for only $3 more. Both campgrounds are on the water, offering roomy accommodations, handy hookups and concrete patios and picnic tables. Both areas also offer FREE laundry, clean restrooms and showers, and modest recreation rooms. Opting for the concrete slab site, we had no difficulty navigating the wide roads and generous spaces. We found the park about 80% full, and have met many who are staying for a month or more. Of course while on base you have access to fitness facilities, tennis courts, golf course, bowling alley, softball fields, a library, commissary, and marina with boat, canoe and kayak rentals. Tips for other Campers:

There is also a sports bar called the Catalina Club within a short walk of your campsite. We observed that they have Blue Moon on tap, and welcome the weekend with a happy hour starting at 3:30pm on Fridays. No doubt we will meet some more nice folks there then. Tomorrow a tour of the USS Lexington.

Lovely location right on the water with sunrise views and ocean sounds. Very windy. Sites are reasonably close. Restrooms and laundry facilities are clean and well maintained. Small recreation room available. Waterfront rigs get ocean sprayed on stormy and windy days. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Motorhome.

This campground is horrible. Place is extremely poorly run with the people in charge only caring about the profits. One crazy woman living there who rides around on her golf cart, screaming at children and almost running down a child in a wheel chair. She thinks the laundry room is her private area and screeches at anyone who dares to use it. Dog crap is everywhere. Garbage on the beach. Thieves stealing your passwords over WiFi. I would never ever return here. I do not recommend. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Motorhome.

Very nice park with large, concrete pads. We parked in spot 46 with immediate access to the fishing pier and beach. Wifi didn't work in this park but had a few days earlier in the Paradise Cove campground 1/2 mile away. Grass burrs are a problem for pets and the "rule" to pick up after your pet was largely ignored, especially on the small beach area. That was a shame. Some long term people here that let their dogs use any open area as the bathroom and didn't clean it up. No recycling. Other than that the campground is in a conscientious location to enjoy the sights in Corpus. The newer area seemed nicer but then you have to deal with the salt spray from the ocean. We were in the older area. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice park, clean, easy access in pull thru site, with grass and a concrete patio with a picnic table. We camped very near the bay. Fishing available on the pier and boat launch to bay. Wifi worked great when connected, but did disconnect a couple of times a day. ATT NetGear would always work great. If you have pets look out for cockle burrs. Our dogs picked up a few while we were here for a week. Staff personnel were outstanding. Would stay here again. Since you are right on the Bay expect the wind to blow on a regular basis, but was tolerable for us. Diesel if available on base and the exchange and commissary were first class. Nice bay side campground. Well maintained. Good place to stay if you plan a week or more to visit Corpus Christi. You will need to obtain a MWR Guest Pass, unless you are in the military or retired. This costs $20, and takes a minimum of five days to obtain. Call them and apply ahead of time if you plan to visit. Really not much of a hassle. Wi-Fi was not too good, but our Verizon card worked just fine. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Fifth Wheel.

Shields Campground and RV Park on NAS Corpus Christi offers nice big patios, full hookups, and lots of wind w/some salt spray. Their “gas” station does sell diesel fuel, and they have a BX and commissary. Their free wi-fi ranged from “so-so” to non-existent– but our Verizon air card worked when the campground wi-fi was “bogged down”. They offer free laundry, but both the showers and laundry were some distance from our side of the campground, so they were not convenient and not enough to serve a park of this size. Dog owners have lots of areas ( on leash ) to walk your dogs, but these areas have an abundance of cockleburs. The Texas black tailed jackrabbits are plentiful at our site and somewhat entertaining. Like so many other military campgrounds and because they now have to pay for a park host ( IRS interference ) so they can then tax the host’s earned park income, there is no host and no real in park scheduled activities. On the plus side their golf course walking rate range from 10.00 – 14.50 for 18 holes. It is a wide open course and greens reseeding was going on while we were there in Nov so the greens were slow. If using a GPS to enter the base we plugged in 100 NAS Drive and it took us to the main, 24 hr gate. We’re not sure if we’d go out of our way to return to this park. We were here for a week before heading southwest to our Rio Grande Valley winter camp. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Motorhome.

We love this place! Everything is kept spic and span, sites are spacious, fun fishing off the pier and we like the Gulf breezes. Nice small commissary and Navy Exchange on base, good espresso available at the Flight Deck. Big H.E.B. and small Wal-Mart and several restaurants just outside the gate at Flour Bluff on Waldron. We stayed on the grass sites at Paradise Cove. Wish we could stay all winter! We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Motorhome.

The Park accepts the General public, not military only as advertised. It is on the Navy Base and therefore it is safe and secure. They have added new management and it is obvious things are changing for the better with activities and programs being added. All sites are within 200 yards of the Gulf of Mexico and if you like salt water fishing, this is the place to be. The park offers rentals of all watercraft as well as good fishing gear and bait. Sites are very large and roomy and Guests and staff are very friendly, while the mosquitoes are not. Bring plenty of repellent. The health spa is very well equipped and the golf course and first class clubs on base are open to all guests. This park is the best kept secret in south Texas. Top notch accommodations at Military prices. We camped at Shields Park NAS Recreation Area (Military Camping Only) in a Motorhome.
