The park is a natural beauty. However seeing the previous reviews, we were very disappointed and our lower rating is directly related to poor management. On the good side, the gate attendants are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the park and the area. The electricity is steady and water pressure is about 65 PSI. The sites do not have sewer hook ups but there is a dump station located at the end of the camping loop. There are 2 loops, the larger one has some 50 amp, but the smaller one is all 30 amp. Very few sites are level, some large motorhomes may struggle to get level. All sites have a water view. However, the bad here is that the park management is allowing a homeless family to occupy a park host site in a very derelict trailer. 2 younger adults, 3 children, 2 dogs and a cat. There is no vehicle to move the trailer which is falling apart, the slide is decrepit, open at the top to the elements. The slide and roof are covered with tarps, the unit has a window and half the door boarded up with wood, there were several window AC units. No apparent tote or vehicle to move waste to the dump, we were dismayed to see the drain connection simply open to the ground. Junk and trash all over the site. Dogs left tied up outside 24/7, barking at passersby, yipping and whining at everything else. When we asked park staff about the situation, we were told there were "extenuating circumstances". The people did not work for the park while we were there. There were several sites that had trash in them, and fire pits had not been cleaned. We probably would not visit there again until this situation is resolved. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Gate attendants were friendly and knowledgeable. Sites were trashy. Sites are not real level but in site 8 we were able to level our 5th wheel. Not going to mention the homeless trailer that is an eye sore: surprised COE allowed the situation in the park. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

The roads in this park have deteriorated and need some work. Sites are not level with significant front to back slopes. Asphalt sites are spacious, and grounds are manicured, and have great views of the lake. Each site has a covered patio with a large picnic table, Bar-b-q/fire pit and a generous space for parking a vehicle. Water and electric only; dump station. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Bardwell is very nice, was quite the weekend we were there. The park has a marina and nice boat ramp. Ennis is a nice little town with shopping and a nice place to eat is Firehouse Grill.

This overnight stop was quite a surprise. It was quiet, somewhat scenic and convenient to the major travel route between Dallas and Houston. The price was ridiculously low for what I received. The dump station was closed but the power and water were good. I stayed in site #6 which was long enough for any size RV and I didn't need to unhook my truck from the 5th wheel. All-in-all a very good experience. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Most COE parks do not have sewer hookups, and this park is no exception. However, that aside, this park was perfect! The view is outstanding! The lake is beautiful! We were here for the NHRA races, and we chosen the park because of the proximity to the drag strip. Boy! We chose correctly. This park is so perfect for those interested in staying at a park close to the drag strip. It is quiet in the evenings. It is really pretty in the mornings. The weather was just awesome! The park personnel love their job, & they are good at their job. Bottom line is that this park is perfect! We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice COE park. At the site we selected, 15, the water faucet did not work. Assigned another site but we didn't like the trees so the staff let us take another site of our choice. Park was almost empty. The water and 50A worked fine. Verizon cell and hotspot worked well. No trees so the rooftop dish worked well. Cement picnic table & bench under covered patio. Large sites and good grass. Paved roads and solid gravel sites. Cement curbs alongside the site's sides so be careful backing in. Peaceful and quite, could hear distant trains at night. Beautiful lake. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Kind of mixed feelings on this review. On one hand it hasn't had any reviews in a long time, but darn sure deserves an updated review due to being such a bargain priced beautiful destination. One the other hand it is so small that I don't want everyone going to check it out and take up all the sites and not having one available for me the next time we wish to go. First off, I gave it a 10 as in Excellent for what is it, that being a Corp of Engineers Property. That means no sewer, no cable and Spartan restrooms. Sites are huge. Water pressure was strong, electric was steady and clean. Good antenna reception and clear sky sites available for those of you who prefer satellite. Sites kept clean with grill, fire ring, covered picnic tables on a concrete pad. RV pad was level side to side, however front to back will require some leveling. If you make reservations on line it will ask for and also show you the length of each sites RV parking. This is for the RV only as there is a additional parking space along side of each site. Roads into and through out the park are in good shape of asphalt and gravel. Dump area is clean with access to dump from two directions. The park does have a marina at the lake as well as enclosed fishing area for a fee. If you are looking for a break away from the city, but wish to be near civilization just down the road. Want to camp in quite overlooking a peaceful lake with large RV sites. Maybe even take a swim in the enclosed swimming area, drop a line and fish, maybe fly a kite. This is your place. One thing to keep in mind is that we camped here in the end of October from a Tuesday to Friday morning. I am sure that it becomes more crowded on the weekends and during the summer months. So if you're in the area to check it out, but please not everyone at the same time. Leave a site for us please. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We used Golden Pass for half price during first 2 weeks. Then we were camp hosts for 4 months. Nice lake and fishing ramp. Marina is nearby. We were hosts in sites 40-49 which was mostly a fishing area. Sites 1 - 39 were mostly big rigs and quiet while our area had more tents and small rigs and loud music was prevalent. The campground has high winds, fire ants and lots of spiders. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Motorhome.

Very nice park. $9 was Golden Age rate. Sites were pull through and level side to side, but not front to back. I had to unhitch in order to level our trailer. There was a hummingbird flying around in the office when I checked in. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

The price reflects my disability pass price. The regular price is $16. The big rig sites are great. Long and level. Big rigs cannot park next to the lake as they are at a very steep angle down towards the lake. We had beautiful wild flowers blooming behind the rig, and a great view of the lake out front. Employees were very nice. BUT they have a curfew: be in the park by 10 PM; the gates are locked. If you came in later, you would have to park your truck out front and walk into your rig. Overall it was a nice park, level sites, good electric. I would come back again. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This campground was clean, fairly nice and the pads are long enough, however, they are not very flat for the larger units. We had to use a lot of blocks. There are also many sand burrs along the edge of the water. If you have dogs beware of this. Since this was February it wasn't very busy. I'm not sure what it would be like in the high summer season. We would probably stay here again. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed two nights but really weren't happy with the park. Very noisy, not many restrictions placed on rowdy guests. Showers are not what you'd call private. Sites were hard to get into. We would go back, but not during this time of the season. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Another great COE park. We were in site #6. The sites are pull throughs with alot of shade. Has covered tables with grill and fire ring. Our Verizon phone and internet worked very good. Direct TV was difficult with all of the tree cover. The bathroom /showers were older and at the other end of the park. None in the section we were in. Although we were told they are planning a new bathhouse in the center of the park, maybe this year. Gates close at 10:00 pm with no access before 6:00 AM. We will stay here again. This was first time at this campground. It was awesome even for a hot August. Beautiful sites we were in site #4. Has pull through sites, covered eating area, lake front view, grill and fire rings. We were there in a 33 ft travel trailer, and our rate was a senior rate. No playground facilities for grand children but they had so much fun with other things that they did not miss it. The restrooms are chemical toilets. Will definitely be back! We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Travel Trailer.

This park is the reason we like COE campgrounds. It is well maintained, quiet, the sites are level, the hook ups work, very easy to maneuver into and out of the sites and there is enough shade that it even helped with the Texas summer sun. The rate reflects a senior discount and we will always come back to this park. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Motorhome.
