This is a very nice State Park. Our site was in the Post Oak section and it was newly paved and a very nice area. The sites were not bunched up and you have a little privacy. We went with friends and had a nice time. We hiked the trails and my husband and one of the friends went fishing. It is a nice, clean lake. They have boat ramps or you can fish off the pier on even just anywhere on the lake. The park Rangers were nice and helpful. It was a very pleasant experience. We have been there twice before and will go back again. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

It is a large park so having a vehicle to travel in is suggested especially if you wish to fish off the pier. It is on the other side of the lake. There is, however, another site within walking distance to fish. We have a trailer so no problem there.

This is a totally beautiful State Park outstanding. From what we saw each and every one of the sites are wooded and totally shaded. We picked a site thinking it was water front but we had no view of lake. Sites close to us did however have a view of the lake. We did not fish or swim but they have that available. There are nice walking trails too. A nice playground, volleyball area and a large space for soccer. Staff was very friendly. One of the two areas had been totally renovated staff told us, but we did not stay in it. The bad part of this stay was the disgusting mess I found at one of the restrooms. This is in no way the fault of the park and the only reason I have mentioned it was I stopped at the Park Host's RV to report and he said he would get it cleaned immediately. I never went back to check it out but I'm sure it was taken care of. The Park staff drive by often even though the park was quite the whole time we were there. Will return. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

This state park is about 120 miles north of Houston and 90 miles south of Dallas, 10 miles off of IH-45. A really nice state park with lots of pull through big rig sites, but no 50 amp, 30 amp only so bring an adapter. Local town is 13 miles away, a few cafes, local grocery is expensive, but has great steaks. Verizon cell service is 3G and spotty. Hotspot wouldn't work. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Fishing is free no liscense required as long as you fish from the bank or the fishing pier within the park. Nice walking trails. Not much in the way of local attractions, there is a tiny one room museum in Fairfield.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground easily one of our favorites. We enjoyed fishing and hiking and there was ample opportunity for both. Camp host was very friendly. We loved the pull through sites. It's a huge campground with 3 different loops. Love the layout which on pull through included railed steps up to the picnic table and fire pit. My ONLY complaint is that the bathroom across from site #74 was filthy. The garbage in the toilet stall stayed full with the same garbage it had in it when we arrived & we stayed 7 nights. The showers also were filthy including powder all over one shower floor which trailed out into the walking area of the shower. That was there our last 2 days. Other than that I would easily give this a 10z. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We camped in the Cooks Ferry Camping Area at Fairfield Lake State Park in site 72 (back-in, double wide, table on off side). The Cooks Ferry Loop (sites 37-100) was renovated in the past 2 years. New site pads and roads. Very nice. Spacious sites, many with lake view and access. Pull through and back-in sites available. The Post Oak Camping Area (sites 101-135) was open and need of repair. The office informed me they plan to renovate Post Oak this winter. The Springfield Camping Area (sites 1-36) are water only and primarily for tent campers. Very good hiking trails. The camping loops are 3+ miles from the park office, boat ramp and fishing dock. No WiFi in camping loops, only at park office. Fair Verizon and AT&T service. Good water quality. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We camped in the Cooks Ferry Camping Area at Fairfield Lake State Park in site 69. The Cooks Ferry Loop (sites 37-100) was recently renovated. New site pads and roads. Very nice. Spacious sites, many with lake view and access. Pull through and back-in sites available. The Post Oak Camping Area (sites 101-135) was closed for the winter. That loop has not been updated. The Springfield Camping Area (sites 1-36) are water only and primarily for tent campers. The lake was full and beautiful. Very good hiking trails. 2 boat ramps and fishing docks. This park is a real hidden gem. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park is way off the highway. We were traveling through and there isn't much to choose from around here. Price was right. People who worked here were very friendly. The park is definitely run down. Needs lots of work. Lake looked really nice. Boat dock very nice. If you have a boat this place would be fine. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Memorial Day Weekend, park was full but did not seem crowded. Lake level is way down, so "lakefront" sites became thick-grass front sites. Playground has swings, monkey bars in good shape and a sand volleyball court near it. Sites are fairly close together and those under trees (most of them) don't have much grass so it gets a little messy when it gets wet. Boat ramp with small dock and fish cleaning station was fine. Nearby power plant which warms lake with water releases can be seen from boat dock area. Staff was friendly and helpful. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice lake with plenty of trees. Cellphone not strong but OK. Voltage is low. The staff pretty disinterested. There is about a 5 mile drive to the camp site after entering park. Sites are not 1evel and paving old and rough. We stayed for 3 nights and would stay here again. Texas requires an annual pass or daily entrance fees. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Love this park, but it is better in the winter. The water of the lake is extremely warm because of the power plant and in the hot Texas sun, the water was too hot to be enjoyable. In winter though, the park is excellent. The park rangers are nice and friendly. Love camping here. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Trees were cut back nicely which allowed the motor home to get in easily. It was not a pull thru site, but there was plenty of room. It was easy in and out with big rigs. Sewer sites are only for the camp hosts, so these cannot be reserved. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

This is the prettiest state park we've ever stayed in. The sites were surprisingly spacious: Texas style! The lake is warm and serene and we had numerous encounters with wildlife. Can't wait to go back! We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is showing it's age. The sites are nothing more than dirt. The landscaping ties are rotten and falling apart. The roads are in rough shape and in need of re-paving. There are some trails to hike and boating is big here. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great place to fish and to hike. Our site was left trashy by the previous occupants, but the park is a nice quiet experience and if you boat and fish, it would be a 10. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice big campground, some sites are level and others are needing repairs. Some sites next to the lake in Cooks Ferry were nice, level sites looking out over the lake. Phone service is limited but depends on carrier. Bathrooms were below avg, not clean each time I went. Lots to do, swimming, fishing, hiking, boating and a lot of wildlife. We camped at Fairfield Lake State Park in a Tent Trailer.
