We stayed in a water/electric only site; 30 amp max at our site. There are full hook-up sites when available (none available when we reserved). There is a dump site. Restrooms were clean, but typical state park facilities that are heavily used. We had a handicapped-accessible site, so plenty of room to park our truck alongside the trailer. Site was mildly sloping front to back, but level side-to-side. State parks personnel are friendly and helpful. We would stay here again. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Travel Trailer.

$62.00 rate includes $6.00 per person Texas Parks daily pass charge for 2 people. Campsite was very slanted, needed 3" of boards to get level. The cable hookup is randomly located behind the RV, 40 feet from the other utilities. Burn ban in effect in West Texas. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Not much to do here, but look at stars. Avoid the full moon, as it washes out most of the stars. Observatory open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Get your groceries and fuel in Alpine. Fort Davis is expensive.

Great park with wonderful views. Full hook-ups including cable in the middle of no where. We enjoyed the wildlife, hiking and scenic drives. Our site was level and from the patio with the table, we couldn't see our neighbors. We will definitely be back. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an absolute gem of a Texas state park! We stayed three nights in site #7 (pull through with full hook ups, even cable). The mountain views all around will make it difficult to remember that you are in Texas. There are numerous excellent trails to hike. We had no cell service (AT&T) anywhere in the park, but did when we drove into the town of Fort Davis. We did not try the OTA or satellite for TV. We loved this park and look forward to returning. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Take in Skyline Drive around sunset. Balmorhea State Park is only 30 minutes away and great to visit for a swim. We attended a "star party" at the McDonald Observatory, which is about 15 minutes away. The Fort Davis National Historic Site is about 10 minutes away and well worth it. For groceries or supplies, Porter's is a nice little grocery store nearby.

Great little State Park tucked into a valley surrounded by mountains. Zero cell service. Satellite worked well for TV. We had a site in the sun with water and electricity. It was just ok. Great view of mountains where we saw goats one day. Fun side trips to McDonald Observatory (reserve in advance for Star Party), Ft Davis (The Drugstore for lunch), Marfa Lights, etc. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We are repeat visitors here. Extremely nice folks at check in, one of the park hosts came by and welcomed us to the campsite, and ranger programs were exceptionally nice. Good water pressure and electric service was very adequate. Very good bird viewing blinds for those so inclined. I think we had something like 50 plus TV channels with news and weather coverage we like to keep up with. Not an abundance of grass, but this is their dry season in an arid part of the world. Very good camping experience! We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Be sure and go to the Twilight Program and Star Party at the McDonald Observatory. Well worth the trip and very interesting. Can be cool at that altitude in the spring, so take a jacket. Nice places to eat in Fort Davis and some interesting small shops and bookstores.

This is a great park. Very well maintained and a nice choice of trails to hike. Love the night skies here. Expect no cell service while in the campground area. A must-do is to drive up Skyview Road which gives a very enjoyable view of the surrounding area. This is the second time to the park and I will return. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Beautiful location, easy access, $25/night for full hookups and cable! Lots of hiking although the trails are challenging. Bring plenty of water. Nearby to Ft Davis for your basic needs. The cons: No cell, none..not even with booster. I know other people managed to get service with a booster but I had no usable service with WeBoost 4G-M. It would show me 1 bar on Verizon or AT&T but when I tried to make a call or use data it would cut off. The WiFi at the park is barely usable for getting the occasional email. That's not a problem if you're not expecting it but don't go into it thinking you can work from your site. If you drive 5 minutes to the top of Skyline drive, you'll get great 4G speeds and excellent voice. The other option is to drive into Ft Davis and use the library there. Site accessibility (Roads in are good. Easy pull-throughs) - 4 Campground location (Nearby to Ft Davis, great hiking/biking) - 4 Nearby amenities (2 small markets in Fort Davis) - 3 Site Privacy (Good spacing) - 3 Campground amenities (Individual locked bathroom/shower) - 4 Dog friendly (Very dog friendly. All hikes were dog accessible) - 5 Activities (Hiking, biking) - 4 Cost ($25/night for 50 amp FHU with cable) - 5 Staff friendliness (Nice enough) - 3 Connectivity (No cell, not even with booster) - 1 Total rating = 3.6. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of the best state parks in Texas. The scenery is magnificent. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and helpful. The are programs every week for various activities in the park. The interpretive ranger is outstanding. Her guided walks and programs are always fun. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We spent one night here, but could have lingered if time had permitted. We left 100 degrees in central Texas and stepped into the low 80's later that same day. What a difference a few hours and higher elevation makes. This park is open with few trees as is the general landscape. There is a very nice motel/lodge with a swimming pool and restaurant - we did not eat nor swim here. If you like looking at the stars at night, this would be a great place to do that. Sites are asphalt, some have sewer, but #53 had 30 amp and water. No problem for one night for sure. The grounds are well kept and patrolled. There is no and when I say no, I mean none, nada cell or wifi coverage in the park. There is outstanding cell and wifi at the lookout located at the top of Skyline Drive. The view from there is beautiful. We would most definitely stay here again and longer. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We had a nice site, with a great view. There are scenic drives, and we were there for the Independence Day celebration, which was quite busy. The town is really interesting - we thoroughly enjoyed the Skyline Drive in the park, and visited the Indian Lodge State Park, which is inside Davis Mountains SP. Beautiful campground nestled down in a valley surrounded by low mountains. Indian Lodge is on-site and is really neat to visit. There is some great hiking here with awesome vistas to view. Bird watching is encouraged with numerous bird watching stations set up and a small interpretive center.

The stars at night are just incredible! Trust me on this, you have probably never seen a night sky like this (fellow campers can mess it up sometimes with their lights so take a walk to a dark area if needed). Oh and fellow campers, don't mess up the night viewing with giant lights all around your site!

The McDonald Observatory is close by and well worth a visit. Go to a star party! Fort Davis is nearby and has a decent little grocery store. Marfa is also an easy drive and worth the half day trip to check it out. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Travel Trailer.
