We stayed here during an open weekend at Davis Mountains Preserve held by The Nature Conservancy. This RV Park is close to town, where we wanted to be, has easy pull through sites for even the biggest rigs, and has friendly and easy going management on site. Pets are welcome including a separate run for dogs, and the Wi-Fi is very good. Management even let us leave late (~3PM) on a Sunday so we could get in a hike before leaving the Fort Davis area. We will definitely be staying there again on future Fort Davis visits. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

They only accept cash or check, so leave the credit cards at home.

This park made a nice 1-night stopover for me, as my site was long enough to accommodate my motorhome and toad without disconnecting. There was plenty of maneuvering room to enter and exit my site. The restrooms are very clean and private. The on-site caretaker was very friendly, but be aware that the park only accepts cash or checks. Not much else in the way of amenities; however, the WiFi was very strong. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

We spent two nights here as we visited the McDonald Observatory and explored Ft. Davis. This park was OK but frankly I would not stay here again if I had other options in Ft. Davis. The park was clean, and the campground host was helpful, but the campground office was never open and we never saw campground management. The men's room was out of order when we got there and one of the clothes washers was broken. Our visit left me wondering if the park was planning on closing soon. There were a lot of full-timers there; perhaps the park is staying open for them. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a decent spot for a night or two. Nice on-site guy in site #29 was helpful; he's who checked us in. Four bathrooms were self-contained with nice tiled showers, toilets, and sinks in each. Only one washer and one dryer were working (there were two of each in the laundry room) and we had lots to do, so that was a little frustrating. It was nice and quiet when we were there. Note this is cash only. All in all, this was a good spot and we would stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We had a surprisingly-fairly-gourmet dinner at Blue Mountain Bistro in town and would recommend it as a nice little place to eat.

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Park does a good job of being comfortable and easy to use and as noted camp host is very nice. But it just looks tired. We were there in late February and weather was chilly. That is not a complaint, just remember you are in the highest town in Texas at 5,000+ ft above sea level. Sites and roads are gravel. Plenty of space to maneuver. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Blue Mountain Bistro is a good choice for dinner. The fort, Davis Mountain State Park, and McDonald Observatory are all great places to explore.

If your rig won't fit in the state park, this is the second best choice in Fort Davis. The campground host is fun and a great guy with tons of stories to tell you if you have the time. Quiet and dark park with no real amenities to speak of, but that's Fort Davis for you. It's cheap (cash only! No credit cards taken!) and friendly.

Only 1 washer and 1 dryer were operating when we were there. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Blue Mountain Bistro in town has great food and a nice patio if the weather is good!

Nice campground for a few days. We were here to visit MacDonald Observatory and Marfa "lights". Internet good. Cable good. 50A only so bring 50-30A pigtail. If necessary, camp manager in Site #29 will loan one,. Fuel before arriving, perhaps Pecos or Fort Stockton, if coming from the East. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park has a new owner/manager who is very friendly & helpful. The roads & sites are gravel. Each site is wired for 50 amp. If you have a 30 amp unit, the park will loan you a 50-30 amp adapter if you don't have one. The voltage was excellent & the Wi-Fi worked well. The bath house is very clean & contains 2 women & 2 men shower rooms. Each room also contains a lavatory & toilet. The laundry room was very clean. Most of the sites are pull-thru of sufficient length to stay hooked up to your trailer or toad. The few long term sites were very clean. The entire park appeared very neat & clean. The credit card machine was being repaired during our stay, so I paid by check. We will definitely return when in this area. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here three nights and would highly recommend this campground. The spacing between campers is good. The spaces are level with good hookup locations. Grass, some small trees, gravel roads in good condition, and a great picnic table on a slab with a cover (very nicely done). Good laundry and bathrooms. Owner and camp host friendly and helpful with things to see and do in the area. Easy walk to downtown Ft Davis (about a mile). Don't miss this one, we'll stay here again! We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I spent two nights at this park. Park host was very friendly and allowed me to select a site and get hooked up before registration. Pull-through site was long enough for my motorhome and toad, and it was easy to get in and out of. Hook-ups were well-placed and worked fine. Plenty of open sky for my satellite dome. Wi-Fi was fast, but was not secured with a password. Park accepts cash and personal checks, but no credit cards. Have stayed here before and would stay again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sign only had partial lettering, more dirt than gravel resulting in mud everywhere, we stayed one night after paying for 4 and went to the state park instead. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Family friendly park. Host was very pleasant, friendly and helpful. Gave information about places to visit in area. Clean restrooms and property well maintained. Sign outside the park is rather hard to see, must be going slow. There is a County park down the road to the South that has a walking path and to get to the park you do not need to drive, there is a walking path on the opposite side of the road so you can actually walk to the park. Traffic noise was a loud during the day but quiet at night. We would stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice little unassuming park. Basic amenities, but what there is is very nice and well-cared for. The bathhouse has private rooms with toilet, sink, and shower. Gravel pads with plenty of room for maneuvering, easy for big rigs. Great Wi-Fi and friendly camp host. Not much signage, easy to find during the day but you might need to look carefully at night. Rate reflects weekly rate, would stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Friendly people, big site and a lot of space. While we were here it was quiet. Easy access to State Park and Fort Davis National Park. Not a very good sign on the road but you cannot miss it. Quiet at night, no road noise. Beautiful night skies. We stayed here three nights. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I spent two nights here while in the Big Bend area. The sites are large and easy to get in and out of. The WIFI worked great and the restrooms/showers were exceptionally nice and clean. While I normally stay at Davis Mountains State Park, this is certainly a worthy alternative. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.
