Good checkin. Cash or check only, park about 1/3 full for the Easter weekend. So no problems about being too close. Sites are adequate for what you need. Level, good water pressure, electricity, and cable. No issues with any. Views are nice from the park. Close to town. Walk or bike there in minutes on the paved path across the street. The only problem we encountered was the laundry facilities. Washer day dinner did not spin dry well and dryer was .25 per 5 min and ineffective. We had to hang our laundry out at the campsite. Also, stickers are an issue for dogs. But that is hard too control here in the country. I would stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

First of all, if you have an in-dash navigation system, like we have, you might want to print out the directions on the web site. We came from San Antonio and as we got off onto Texas 17, we were about 20 miles from Fort Davis, when our GPS said that we had arrived. We hadn't since it was nothing but an empty field. Check in was easy and as noted in other reviews, the man running the place is a little gruff, but he was polite and easy going. He also gave us a run down of the place to see. After checking in and paying, he told us to take one of the two way roads, and to find a site we liked. There was no information about the park provided. Everything easy to locate and easy to connect. There was a covered picnic table at most of the sites. The wi-fi was good, most of the time, make sure you get the password, when you check in. Cable TV is provided and worked well, as did our satellite TV. AT&T cell service was only 1 or 2 bars and some times we got no signal. We would stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fort Davis, McDonald Observatory, The Davis Mountains Scenic Route, Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center, The Marfa Lights Viewing Center is about a 30 minute drive. Fort Davis is a small town, with only one grocery store, that we saw. It is fairly well stocked, as far as grocery stores go. If you think you will need anything, besides groceries, you better stop someplace, before you get here.

I made a reservation with my needs as I am in a small camper with no facilities. I did not get what I asked for. I was lucky to get the last space available, any later and I would have had no camping spot. There was little to no effort to make amends for the inconvenience. The manager was gruff and belligerent. He will tell you what his job is and that is all you will get out of him. There are few picnic tables, they have limited cable but the picture is good and clear, the Wi-Fi was pretty stable, and the bathrooms appeared clean. That this is the most decent park in Fort Davis does not say much for the other parks. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wide open, big pull-thru sites with covered patio, picnic table & BBQ grill. Very helpful by phone with directions locating the park because GPS address doesn't get you far enough to get the park! Cash or check only. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

McDonald Observatory is 16 miles away and we came to Fort Davis to do their Twilight & Star Party Programs. $15/pp covers both and we loved both programs. Observatory is at 6800' with no lights nearby so moon/star viewing is awesome and we used 50x & 400x telescopes to view moon/Jupiter and star clusters.

Access is excellent with gravel roads and sites. The sewer connection had been sawed off with a PVC cap and there were no threads. Good grouping of utilities. There is a nice concrete patio with picnic table and lattice cover. The water valve leaked, but the water pressure was at least 50 psi. The host camper is what I'd call a "character." Friendly and helpful, but opinionated. Lots of dust and wind, but hey, this is West Texas. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Davis Historical Site, McDonald Observatory and iconic Marfa are all close by and well worth the visit. We did the evening Twilight and Star Program at the observatory. They had 8 telescopes set up for star and planet viewing. Reservations can be made on-line.

This campground was a great place to stay while exploring Fort Davis. The camphost was friendly and helpful, and takes your money after you get set up. (Cash or check only). The sites were long and level, and each site had a covered picnic table. Utilities worked as they should, and we had a clear shot of the sky for satellite. Fort Davis (the fort itself) is an interesting visit, and the observatory is a must see. We also enjoyed lunch and ice cream at the hotel/drugstore in town. We would definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

It's worth pointing out that as far as I can tell this is as good or better than any other private RV park in the Fort Davis area. If you can't get into the state park (of if you have to have cell service), I don't think you'll do any better than this park in Fort Davis. Having said all of that, this park is nothing to get excited about. Gravel, dirt, and weeds are interspersed to the point that's it's hard to tell exactly what is a site and what is a yard. Each site does have a small patio with a picnic table, which is nice. The building with the bathrooms is in poor repair, but the bathrooms themselves are clean and adequate. The laundry facility is limited to just one washer and dryer. While we've been here no one has ever worked in the office. Campers have been checked in by the host who's customer service skills leave a little to be desired - nice enough guy, but sure likes to point out what you're doing wrong. In addition, we made a reservation over the phone / email and when we arrived were informed of the extra fees we'd be paying due to the size of our family (rates are based on 2 occupants only). If we're in the area again we may stay here, but only because there aren't many other good options. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There's so much to do within 1-2 hrs of Fort Davis: Davis Mountain State Park, Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, the MacDonald Observatory, Mt Livermore, Balmorhea State Park, the Marfa Lights, etc. Take your pick.

As others have said, not deluxe, not KOA, just a good basic campground. Nice big, level sites. Close to town, but not too close. Very quiet. Oddly enough there was no train. I thought all campgrounds were required to have a train. We'd definitely stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of those places where the beauty lies in the service, price, and location, rather than in how it looks, which is fairly basic. The casual atmosphere is very friendly. When we called ahead we were told to just come on down and find a spot we liked, set up, and someone will come by after a while. We did, and he did. We are in a 30-amp rig and the site only had 50-amp service, but the host gladly loaned us an adapter. Our site was level, showers and bathrooms clean. The location is convenient to town, but quiet, bordering on pastureland. As you drive south of town, look for the giant tin chicken that marks the entrance to camp. On the downside, the grass around camp seriously needed mowing to keep down the sandspurs, which were a nuisance; and some of the sewage inlets had only flat rocks balanced on them instead of actual caps. Note that payment here is cash or check only. Overall, though, we would stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Fort Davis national historic park, Davis Mountains State Park, and McDonald Observatory are all convenient to this campground (in Texas driving terms, of course.) Sol Ross University's Big Bend Museum in Alpine, about 30 minutes away, is worth the drive to see how a very small museum can do a good job of storytelling in a limited space. For a picnic and a swim in a big clear spring go to Balmorhea State Park, about 45 minutes away down Route 17; and enjoy some spectacular scenery on the way.

Pull through spots were easy to maneuver. Liked the small patio, even though I didn't get a chance to use it. Park manager was helpful getting set up. Super friendly guy with great stories. It would score a little better, but the goatheads were awful. Used the men's room once, and it was in order. Laundry had a working pair, other set down. Just outside of town far enough that the night sky is amazing. Internet was good, cable selection was okay (got the news and weather). We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed here during an open weekend at Davis Mountains Preserve held by The Nature Conservancy. This RV Park is close to town, where we wanted to be, has easy pull through sites for even the biggest rigs, and has friendly and easy going management on site. Pets are welcome including a separate run for dogs, and the Wi-Fi is very good. Management even let us leave late (~3PM) on a Sunday so we could get in a hike before leaving the Fort Davis area. We will definitely be staying there again on future Fort Davis visits. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park made a nice 1-night stopover for me, as my site was long enough to accommodate my motorhome and toad without disconnecting. There was plenty of maneuvering room to enter and exit my site. The restrooms are very clean and private. The on-site caretaker was very friendly, but be aware that the park only accepts cash or checks. Not much else in the way of amenities; however, the WiFi was very strong. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

We spent two nights here as we visited the McDonald Observatory and explored Ft. Davis. This park was OK but frankly I would not stay here again if I had other options in Ft. Davis. The park was clean, and the campground host was helpful, but the campground office was never open and we never saw campground management. The men's room was out of order when we got there and one of the clothes washers was broken. Our visit left me wondering if the park was planning on closing soon. There were a lot of full-timers there; perhaps the park is staying open for them. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a decent spot for a night or two. Nice on-site guy in site #29 was helpful; he's who checked us in. Four bathrooms were self-contained with nice tiled showers, toilets, and sinks in each. Only one washer and one dryer were working (there were two of each in the laundry room) and we had lots to do, so that was a little frustrating. It was nice and quiet when we were there. Note this is cash only. All in all, this was a good spot and we would stay here again. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Motorhome.

Park does a good job of being comfortable and easy to use and as noted camp host is very nice. But it just looks tired. We were there in late February and weather was chilly. That is not a complaint, just remember you are in the highest town in Texas at 5,000+ ft above sea level. Sites and roads are gravel. Plenty of space to maneuver.
