One of my favorite parks. Sites are very shaded. They are paved and offer water & electric. Satellite TV signal was achieved from site #10. That site was empty in spite of the park being almost full; it was empty likely because it dips in the middle. However, it was easy to level the RV by backing through and up the backside of the dip so the front and rear axils were level. Verizon was good for 3 bars. The park has miles and miles of wide, mostly level walking paths through palmettos or tall forest. Great for walking or biking. Kayak rentals are available. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Motorhome.

Mostly level site. Even though it rained, we didn't have a lot of mud. Great trails for walking. I love the "prehistoric" feel to this park. We will be back. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Palmetto is spread out in two very different areas one on either side of the San Marcos River. The two parts are connected via a walking bridge or a short drive down the highway. We camped in the farther loop (its not named on the map) in site 12. We really enjoyed this loop. Its covered in shade trees and has a nice open field off to one side. It has two nice trailheads in the loop as well. The bathrooms were very clean too. The other side has the lake and other features. Overall this was a very clean and well kept park. Its a state park so there is a $3 daily entrance fee per person on top of the $18 per day for the site. You can skip the entrance fee if you have a state parks pass ($70 annual). The trails were very wide and easy to walk with good views of the river. We will definitely be staying here again. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

BBQ at the Luling City Market is excellent! Also get your fill at Buccee's, the number one road stop in the nation.

First Time at Palmetto State Park. This is a pretty Small State Park with one main loop for RV's. We stayed space 19 and parked front in because of a better view. Spaces are not too tight and facilities were very clean. There is a great view of the San Marcos River less than 100 yards away and very nice hiking trails through the park. Will definitely stay here again. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful sites, spaced well apart. All sites had a grill and most were a smoker grill. Every site had water, electric, fire rings, picnic tables on a concrete pad and lantern hooks. The trails are well graded with gravel and have large signs posted WATCH FOR SNAKES. We watched carefully and did not see any. The landscape is beautiful with pools of water, palmettos, and cypress. Note: there is a separate tent only campground and a trailer/motorbike campground on opposite sides of the San Maros River. Watch the signs for trailer and the site number before turning as it is difficult to turn around in the tent campground. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There is an Old Jail Museum and a Walmart in Gonzales. Buckees (an experience if you haven't been there before) on I10 exit. Luling is evidently known for its BBQ but we did not try.

We really liked how well maintained the trails were in the park. We took advantage of the open trails. Currently, the San Marcos River trail was closed. The park has some cool scenery for the area. I didn't feel like I had only driven 1.5 hours (from Austin) to get here. It felt more like East Texas area.

Some of the sites can be difficult to get into. There are trees on both sides of the outer sides and the pads aren't angled to road. I had to come at the site from the other direction. Basically, come down the road the wrong way. Next time, I'll see what sites are available before pulling into the loop. My trailer is almost 32'. If you have a longer trailer, you probably want to stay in the inner loop.

The park is close to I-10, but I didn't notice any noise. It was close to convenient stores. Also, close to the HEB in Luling.

I got 3 bars on my AT&T phone. I was able to get about 20mb/s down phone.

I was able to get some Austin OTA channels. PBS and ABC came in. I didn't test San Antonio channels, but you could probably pull them in. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Attractive park with several nice trails. Wooded sites. It was rainy and cold while I was there so I didn't explore as much as I would have liked. Very few campers. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Motorhome.

Arrived well after dark, and the road from Luling to the park is a dark, narrow road. But, we had scoped the park earlier in the teip, and knew where we were going. Sites are asphalt paved and easy to back in to. Level, although we saw one site on a significant slope. Perfect utilities. Camp host registered us with no hassle. Beautiful tropical forest setting. Had to leave early because of an emergency. Will return again one day to see the CCC structures and hike the wide, beautiful woodland trails. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a very nice, green, and shady park! It offers camping, picnicking, hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, playgrounds, and boating. For boating, you can launch your own, or rent one from the park store, which offers canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats for use on the lake. The store also rents inner tubes for floating on the San Marcos River, which runs through the park. The park has many trails available for hikers and bikers. It also has structures that were built in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and an informative and scenic interpretive trail. There are a wide range of accommodations ranging from tent sites with water only, RV sites with water and electric, 1 full hookup RV site, and 1 mini-cabin. Some sites are very level, while others have a slope. Water and electric supplies are good. On the technology side, we received a few over-the-air TV stations, from Austin and San Antonio, but they were weak. Also got weak 3G cell phone service from Verizon. The park was quiet and peaceful, even on a holiday weekend, and it's sites are very shady to help keep you cool. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Just an overnight stop for us and I called from San Antonio to make sure they had vacancies in the RV area. Lady who checked us in was very nice and let us pick our spot (from her computer screen) We had a nice site with trees on one side and a large field and trail on the other side. Enjoyed walking some of the trails by the river and a very peaceful stay despite being only a few miles off I-10. We would stay here again. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park, level sites well separated. Hiking trails well maintained. Headquarters was beyond the campground turnoff and it was difficult to get turned back around. Would camp there again. Relaxed and comfortable setting. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

If this park had sewer hookups, it would rate a 10. Great sites with lots of space and new, level parking pads. Each site has a picnic table and a grill; some have smoker pits also. The park is small and quiet and TV is pretty much out of the question. Stay here to read and hike and enjoy nature (we had about 10 deer in the field next to us this morning). We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed in site #2 which is the only site besides the camp hosts that has full hookups. This park has several bike and hike trails. The trail through the palmettos is fun. Luling is close by. City Market BBQ is very popular. We ate lunch at Blake's which was very good. The oil museum run by the Chamber of Commerce between these two restaurants was interesting. Buc-ee's is on the way to Luling and is always a must stop. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here and really enjoyed the park, the park is very clean, well spaced, plenty of shade. ATT signal very strong (posting this review from our RV spot right now) bathrooms very clean. The walking trails were exceptional and made so event the most amateur of hiker could enjoy them, even in 100 degree heat the shade helped keep us cool.  The park host were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Two drawbacks are no sewer hookup (dump station on the way out); and if you are trying to use your satellite dish, you are out of luck because of all the trees (it is a trade off for the wonderful shade) although one or two RV's managed to get a signal. You won't be disappointed in this place. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We'd forgotten how nice this old CCC park is. An hour from either Austin or San Antonio, it's a true gem of Texas campgrounds. The CCC created some marvelous buildings that are well kept up. There are many trails, a small ox-bow lake for fishing, and the San Marcos river rushes between the tent and RV campgrounds. We camped at Palmetto State Park in a Travel Trailer.
