Overnight during major thunderstorms. Very hospitable greeting from the owner who kept office open for our late arrival. All utilities including cable were great. Some standing water in gravel sites. Very convenient to Hwy 287. Would stay here again. - RVondaGO

For being in the middle of nowhere, Texas, this is a very good place to stop for one or a few nights. We stayed here in February a few years ago waiting out a snow storm in Amarillo and again last week. Lots of contractor rigs parked along the outer edge but they save the big pull-thru sites in the middle for the one or a few nighters. Grounds are well kept and improvements being added. Only thing that keeps me from giving it a 10 is the frequent freight trains whistling for a crossing about once per hour. Will stay here again. - Bojangles

This park is in the middle of nowhere. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery on the way. The office is closed on Sundays so the lady called us on Saturday to tell us our site number and explained how to get to the site. She was very nice. She came by to greet us Monday morning. Utilities worked well. There was good cable TV. - ClayLady

We stayed at the Comanche campground for two nights in November. The park is 14 miles south of Quanah. The campground itself has nice campsites with good spacing. The campground was not full while we were there so there were plenty of open spaces and privacy. Each campsite has a picnic table which is under a teepee-like structure. The one bathhouse was clean. There are some nice trails around the area and the park headquarters has an interesting museum. I was able to get a few OTA TV channels but my T-Mobile coverage was very marginal. - Lance 47

This small park encompasses a lot of amazing scenery and some spectacular hiking trails with interesting geological stuff. Each site has a wooden teepee-like shelter, lantern pole, grill, fire ring and picnic table. Staff is very helpful and friendly. This is a Dark Sky park and the stargazing must be amazing on a clear, moonless night. We had a full moon and some cloud cover, and we look forward to returning in the future to this gem of a park to see the Milky Way spread across the wide Texas night sky. - leorah

We stopped here for an overnight on our way west. We called ahead of time, and were told the office closes at 4:30 pm, but were told that if we arrive after hours we could just find a site and pay in the morning before we leave. We ended up arriving at about 4:25, as she was getting ready to close. She was more than happy to help, and even offered to stay late so we could check out the museum... Yes, there is a museum at the welcome building! We declined her most gracious offer, and ended up not making it to the museum in the morning. We stayed in the Comanche loop, which offered water and electric. The only other campers there were the camp hosts, who were very friendly and fun to talk to. The scenery was great. There were several look out points and you could see an abundance of rock formations. The stars at night were phenomenal!!! We very strongly considered staying longer to give us time to explore a little, but we were on somewhat of a schedule. When we find ourselves coming through here again, we will certainly return and allow more time to stay and enjoy it! - The Rowlands

Off US Hwy 70 behind a great steakhouse by same name (open Fri and Sat only). Clean, wide grass and gravel sites with Mesquite trees (not much shade). Note: there are NO showers or rest rooms. Call ahead to see if they have any space as there is nothing else close by and they occassionally fill with workers. Cash only. Managers are very nice and helpful. Actual address is 10085 W Hwy 70, email: email@example.com - horsefolk
