Beautiful park. Nice shady spots. We were here during the week. Very few people. A big day-use, swimming and recreation area so weekends & summer months are likely to be extremely busy. We camped at Loyd Park in a Motorhome.

Typical State/City park, everything clean and neat, staff friendly and helpful. Sites for FHU are at back of park away from the lake with only 30A electric. Site was asphalt and reasonably level. Lots of trees but were still able to get our satellite TV without hassle. Nice park in fairly central location to Dallas and Ft.Worth with all major shopping available in nearby Mansfield. We camped at Loyd Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Considering your within the confines of the metroplex called DFW and within 30-45 minutes drive of most of DFW...this park is actually rather quite and nice. In the mornings you could hear/see the airplanes leaving DFW...but the planes were high enough it wasn't inconvenient or annoying. Having read the warning in a couple of other reviews about the extra parking fee ($10 a day per motor vehicle - no charge for trailers)...I thought I had paid ahead; I was wrong...but they do take credit cards at the gate. The road construction on 360 is annoying, it appeared that will be wrapping up soon. ATT service was ok, but we were there to sleep and shower at the trailer...the rest of the time we were enjoying the sites of DFW. If you need 50 Amp service, might be best to call the park office ahead of time and make sure they have you down for one. Their online reservation system works really well, but there is no way to request a 50 amp service; thankfully it wasn't warm enough to need both a/c units and we could use the adapter. The folks working the gate were very friendly and willing to answer questions & offer suggestions. We camped at Loyd Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wonderful city operated park and RV campground. Paved roads with level paved back in sites with partial and full hook ups. Lots of large trees and grass between sites and a lake with fishing and boat rentals. Nice small store and outdoor pool. Elec and water pressure good. Good TV antenna signal. 4 bar Verizon cell and 4G signal. Only a few sites good for satellite due to tress. Requested one with reservation. No Wi-Fi at sites. Good security and office staff friendly and helpful. Park clean and well maintained Discount park entry fee for seniors. Will stay there again. Good Sam park. We camped at Loyd Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

I might only endorse the glowing reports already noted, but must say the additional fee (although clearly stated) is somewhat deceiving when looking at the actual cost, making the park a fair value. My only addition is that it is centrally located in the DFW megalopolis - very close to none of the attractions but not very far from any of them either. I got to almost everything in 20-30 minutes or less. We camped at Loyd Park in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful city park. Huge sites with water and electric, farily level, a covered picnic table area and fire ring. We were the only campers in G loop during the week, by Saturday all sites were full. Some sites are open and in full sun, some sites are wooded, all are spacious. We camped at Loyd Park in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This county park on Joe Pool Lake is quite large with many camping loops. The sites are fairly large with plenty of trees providing privacy between neighbors, and each site has a covered picnic area and fire ring. The interior roads were in good condition, but being heavily wooded it can be a little tricky driving a big rig through without scraping against tree branches. Our site was not level but with our wood blocks we were able to get completely leveled. There are plenty of heated bath/shower houses for each loop. It's less than five miles to supermarkets, restaurants, etc. Unfortunately during our stay (December 2015) much of the campground was under water due to flooding of the lake, so the beach and other amenities were closed and the campground was mostly vacant despite being a holiday weekend. AT&T and Verizon both worked well, and we received plenty of over-the-air TV channels. As others have mentioned, there is a $10 per day vehicle fee in addition to the $23 camping fee. We'd return here, but only after the flooding has receded and the damage it caused has been repaired. We camped at Loyd Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful park on the south central part of the DFW metroplex. There are many loops and the sites vary greatly from loop to loop: some are in densely wooded areas (with and without a lake view), while others are in wide open grassy areas with nice lake views (some are right on the lake). We stayed in Loop F which was more open and with a lake view. Our site did not have sewer hookups, but bathrooms (with showers) were a short walk away. Some of the sites with full hookups are still under repair from severe flooding this past Spring. Cell and OTA TV reception were both excellent. There is an excellent sandy beach area leading down to the clean, clear lake. There is a fishing pier, excellent playground, and kayak/canoe rentals down by the beach area. All of these things make Loyd Park an outstanding destination for our family with small kids. We will certainly return. Note that there is a $10 per day vehicle fee in addition to the camping fees. We camped at Loyd Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Just a few minutes north on TX 360 is a new shopping center with Home Depot, Target, Starbucks, restaurants, etc. Arlington is only 10-15 minutes away as well.

We camped in site 9 (water and 30A electric) at Loyd Park. Urban park, but feels like you are not near a city. All sites are 30A electric and water. A few sites have sewer. $10 per vehicle per day fee in addition to campsite fee. We have camped here many times. We camped at Loyd Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The park staff was friendly when we arrived and gave us 10 sites to choose from. We had a long, shady site with a covered pavilion. We arrived on Thursday and had few neighbors. Friday night there were no camp sites available in the park. It is obvious that this is a park well used by local residents. Remarkably, both nights were quiet and pleasant. I would recommend this park. I know that we will return to it because of its location near shopping and sports facilities. We did not use the showers or restrooms. Our rate includes a $2 per day per person entrance fee and 30 amp electric and water service, no sewer. We camped at Loyd Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Easily our favorite campground in Texas. The sites are huge and most of them are secluded in trees so they are very private. You really get the feeling you are somewhere in the wilderness when in reality you're just 15 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Dallas. The sites are paved and level; some have sewer connection but most don't. There's even a sandy beach on the shore of Joe Pool Lake, if you're so inclined. We're fortunate in that Loyd Park is just 30 minutes from home, so when the urge strikes we just set out for a relaxing weekend in the woods. All sites have a picnic table under a covered gazebo. It appears that all the sites are back-ins, so beware if that is and issue for you. Otherwise, highly recommended. We camped at Loyd Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The only really annoying thing about this park is having to pay a $10 per day vehicle access fee on top of the camping fees. The total paid above includes the vehicle fee and the Good Sam discount. We stayed here because it was the closest park to both Dallas and Fort Worth that had better than a 6 rating. At the time we stayed at least half the sites were still closed due to flooding but there were still plenty of available sites. This is actually a very nice park; the sites are very well laid out with a huge amount of room between each site, full concrete pads and a shelter with BBQ at each site. Our only real problem was that there is only 30A service and with temperatures around 40C (104 old measurement) it was totally inadequate for keeping our rig cool. We stayed in site 214 which was a double wide site although most of the sites looked big enough to handle any big rig. We camped at Loyd Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Most of the park is currently flooded. I believe you can enjoy it in better weather and once all the flood will be taken care of.

It close to major shopping. Most of the spots are shaded but not all. Our site wasn't shaded but had nice private big grass area next to it. We camped at Loyd Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We spent last fathers day there with the family - the lot was huge. We have a large pop up camper and took two vechicles and we still had plenty of room. We took our sons small plastic pool and bike which he used the whole weekend. The lots are large enough and wooded you have privacy from the other campers. It is wooded so be careful with the critters out there - they like to come out at night. The bathrooms are not air conditioned or cleaned very well, so be prepared. The picnic tables have covers for shade and there is a grill and firepit at each spot. Our family had a great time. We may need to book a little earlier next time to be closer to the water. We camped at Loyd Park in a Tent Trailer.

Overall Rating:

I would give this a 10 for location to our house. Its a quick get away but they seem to be allowing more and more folks that tent camp, thus don't have the greatest camping etiquette, if you will. We will no longer get a water front site because we get uninvited guests in your campsite. One helped himself to a beer out of our cooler. Other than that, its a great place. Buying the season pass is well worth it if you camp here like we do: around 6-10 times per year. Quick and easy, but know where to go. We camped at Loyd Park in a Fifth Wheel.
